Hanging washing out at night?

Does anyone hang their washing out at night? And leave it out all night? Then it's dry in the morning? I've heard people doing this but don't know if it's somehow dirtier during the night or something? Hmm but would be great to hear people's opinions Grin

I often do. I’m not sure what is dirty about the night air??

Bunionbandit · 24/04/2020 21:55

c3pu ...... lol .... spiders willies 🙈 I regularly hang washing out the night before and it’s dry by mid morning. Can’t imagine why this Wouk didn’t be questionable in any way ?

Bunionbandit · 24/04/2020 21:56

Would be

TheSmelliestHouse · 24/04/2020 21:58

I often hang out in the evening, in summer that'll be dry by morning, I don't mind the odd spider wilf. If I forget to bring it in any time if year it gets a bit more freah air, always good for the boys' sports kit.

Simonfromharlow · 24/04/2020 22:02

Leave mine out over night all the time!

StormsDontLastForever · 24/04/2020 22:04

Thanks for everyone's opinions Grin especially the spider willie comments Grin I have hung it out so fingers crossed it's dry and stain free in the morning Hmm

If you have clothes that need ironing they'll be perfect if you leave them overnight and bring them in first thing - just slightly, and evenly, damp. No steam needed!

Lazydaisydaydream · 24/04/2020 22:08

One of my neighbours always hangs her washing out in the rain. It's a running joke that if we notice her hanging her washing out we use that as our weather forecast that rain is on the way. I have wondered at times whether she just doesn't have a washing machine?! Hmm

YouAndMeAndTheDevilMakesThree · 24/04/2020 22:09

Our garden doesn't get the sun until the afternoon so it wouldn't work. But I'd do it if it did!

JKScot4 · 24/04/2020 22:12

I grew up with a very houseproud Glaswegian granny, anyone who left their washing out beyond 6pm was a sloven, same for dirty windows/curtains and doorstep.
Washing gets damp in the evening/night, pointless putting it out late on.

Whoopsmahoot · 24/04/2020 22:14

Love the spiders willies comment- always wondered what those marks were on the towels after I’ve left them out 🤣🤣🤣

OllyBJolly · 24/04/2020 22:16

I was wondering @JKScot4 - is this a Scottish thing? I'm sure if I hung a washing out at night the dew would get it and it would be wetter in the morning. Maybe in less damp climes this would not be an issue.

MadeForThis · 24/04/2020 22:18

I can confirm - spiders definitely wipe their willies on washing left out overnight. But they are small so you might not notice.

hedwigismyowl · 24/04/2020 22:18

My uniforms for work are out there now. They'll be dry by morning. I often do it n never found they're wet still in the morning, always dry

margotsdevil · 24/04/2020 22:19

I live a good "it will get darked on" thread, haven't seen one for ages Grin I agree that not only will leaving out the washing mean it gets darked on, but it's also damp if you leave it out too late, so what's the point? Even DH understands that the washing must not be darked on!

RickOShay · 24/04/2020 22:21

Yes I do

margotsdevil · 24/04/2020 22:21

@OllyBJolly maybe it is a Scottish thing though... I'm Scottish too. Left mine out 20 mins too long last night and it needed popped in the tumbler - positive it had been dry ages Hmm

JKScot4 · 24/04/2020 22:23

@OllyBJolly
You are correct, the temperature always drops in the night and is damp, pointless and lazy putting it out at night unless you live somewhere very hot.
Scottish grannies/mammies are very houseproud, slovenliness was not tolerated.

ShoppingBasket · 24/04/2020 22:26

Must be an Irish thing too? I take them in before they get damp. However the first sign of rain every irish mother roars and the family come to the rescue to get the clothes off the line with her.

notdoingitanymore · 24/04/2020 22:46

Washing and line routine for me -
Lockdown, 2pm peg out and collect in yesterday's
Standard 6pm peg out and collect yesterday's
If it rains 🤷‍♀️ do without until it is dry again.

JKScot4 · 24/04/2020 22:49

@notdoingitanymore
You are a complete sloven, you do not leave it out in rain to get dried again, you clatty get 🙀

notdoingitanymore · 24/04/2020 22:52

Double rinse - live on the trailing edge of moorland from Atlantic rain so it's not like there is much pollution in the rain

caoraich · 24/04/2020 22:56

Scottish but do put it out overnight- only if the forecast for the next day is nice. If I'm due in work for 7am I have to leave at 6am and no way am I faffing with laundry at that time. I don't expect it to dry overnight but basically it's already up for the next day and dry by the time I get home.

kevintheorangecarrot · 24/04/2020 22:56

Yes I do it regularly. I did it the other day in fact Grin

Powerplant · 24/04/2020 22:57

Saves time putting it out at night when you have to be at work in the morning
