Hanging washing out at night?

Does anyone hang their washing out at night? And leave it out all night? Then it's dry in the morning? I've heard people doing this but don't know if it's somehow dirtier during the night or something? Hmm but would be great to hear people's opinions Grin

Thanks to this thread I had to go Google how spiders mate. I give you the equivalent of a Willie in spiders

At this time of year, it probably wouldn't be dry in the morning. We've got an overnight mist forecast and the washing I brought in at 8pm is still damp.

It's not unusual to have snow at this time of year.

There's a few days in a proper summer heatwave when I might leave laundry out.

I think it's a Feng Shui thing that negative energy gets into washing hung out overnight !! .. I wish I'd never read that as I'm paranoid not to do it now

Yay a spider willy thread, thanks op it's been ages! Cheered me right up 😊

Depends on the time of year and weather. Right now, I wouldn't because it would be damp in the morning from condensation. But I have done previously on really warm summer nights after it hadn't rained for a while. I often put a load on before bed (drain and spin in the morning), so it's ready to hang out when I get up.

Spiders don't just wipe their willies on it, they pee on it as well. However, inspite of that and it being darked on, I hang washing out at night and I leave it out in soft rain- not a storm though. It smells so much nicer after a bit of rain I think, or perhaps it's the spider pee.

I used to but once had some attacked by a fox in the night (towels ripped off the line and chewed). So that was the end of that!

Rosebel · 24/04/2020 23:28

Mine is on the line now. I always mean to bring it in but usually forget until the morning!

orlarose · 24/04/2020 23:53

No I don't. Also it's still very damp here at night so not sure it would do the clothes much good.

kingofkings · 25/04/2020 00:09

To me washing has to come in before dark and before the dew - has always been so it's just how it is. Washing out overnight is a bit slovenly agree. Ha

FliesandPies · 25/04/2020 00:39

I leave mine out in summer if the air is warm and it always smells extra nice.

Even though it doesn't stop me doing it, washing out at night being 'darked upon' is my No.1 favourite recurring thing on MN.

I always scroll very fast past the stuff about spiders willies Shock

BerriesAndLeaves · 25/04/2020 00:51

I've done it for years. I like that it gets the early morning sun so gets nice and dry. I don't like hanging it in the morning as the sun goes in your eyes when you look up.

Topseyt · 25/04/2020 01:10

Mine is out there now getting darked on.

I love darked on washing.

My Scottish grandmother used to be quite scornful of her neighbour hanging her washing out on a Sunday according to my dad. This would have been 1940s onwards that my dad remembers, so a while ago.

Simonfromharlow · 25/04/2020 17:11

I like to leave mine out overnight and on the line for a while the next day. It smells so fresh for ages when you do that!

Duck90 · 25/04/2020 23:17

Personally it depends. If the washing is dry, but you have left it out over night because you could not be bothered (and then gets damp/wet again) that’s being lazy.

If it’s part of being organised in advance, an early work start the next day, great planning.
