Shark vs Dyson

Hello wise mumsnetters!

I need a new stick hoover. Which one would you recommend? I've had 2 dyson vacuums so far. The husband killed my V8 not long ago. So do I stick to a Dyson or change over to a shark? If so which one? I have pets and feral children.

Thanks in advance!

I've always had Dysons and always been happy with them, but got a Shark in the Black Friday sale and it's better than any Dyson I've ever had. The suction is insane!

RandomWok · 26/02/2020 21:56

That's exactly where I am at! I've been perfectly happy with my Dyson(s) it's my husband that breaks them. but I fear I maybe missing out with a Shark! And from your post my fears may be confirmed!

Thank you!

Which? tested a full range of cordless vacuum cleaners and the Dyson V11 'won' by a country mile. I bought one and I am very happy with it

EmmaGrundyForPM · 26/02/2020 23:31

Shark. We changed to one after our Dyson died. It Is brilliant and so much better than the Dyson

MadisonAvenue · 26/02/2020 23:39

Not a stick one but I recently bought a Shark upright after being loyal to Dysons for over 20 years and the difference is incredible.
The amount of dust and dog hair that filled the container on the first clean with the Shark was shocking, and I'd only cleaned with the Dyson the previous day (and I vacuum daily anyway).

MissBridgetJones · 27/02/2020 00:07

We have a Shark corded 'lift away' - game changer and knocks any Dyson (corded and stick) out of the water. It's exceptional.

And yes. Fully overexcited by this absolute game changer.

LimitIsUp · 27/02/2020 10:16

I think I would go with the Which? report rather than randoms on the internet - but that's just me perhaps

RandomWok · 27/02/2020 10:53

@LimitItUp probably the least helpful post. 😂

Which? Tested all the cordless vacuums and the Dyson V11 came out top. Yes I am aware of that. But my husband has trashed 2 Dysons so far. My friends that have made the switch from Dysons to a shark have all raved about them. Hence me asking "Randoms" on the internet. I wanted some other mum's opinions. Silly me Hmm

Thank you to the mum's for their opinions. I'm leaning towards a Shark at the moment. Is it sad that I am excited about my new hoover?! 😂

Hated my V6, it was dead just outside of the two year warranty and I vowed never to buy one again.

QVC did a special on a V10 two weeks ago and I caved and I have to say, it is marvellous! I have a Miele too, which I had used throughout the house the morning the V10 arrived. But when I used the V10, I had a FULL bucket of dust and hair and general grot. Absolutely astounded..!

(But my mum hates Dyson and has a cordless Shark which she loves!).

Clafairymon · 01/03/2020 08:37

Absolutely LOVE my cordless Shark duo. Would recommend it to anyone!

Sharkyfan · 01/03/2020 08:41

Only can compare the cordless ones but much prefer Shark

SlayingDragons · 01/03/2020 08:48

Shark every day of the week.

We had 3 Dysons over 10 years - they didn’t last well at all, and also needed to change one when we moved to a house with all wooden floors as the one we had wasn’t suitable.

Moved to the US and discovered Sharks and fell in love with our hoover.

Came back to the UK nearly 6 years ago, bought a Shark and haven’t looked back. It’s still better today, nearly 5 years on, than our Dysons were brand new.

SlayingDragons · 01/03/2020 08:49

nearly 6 years on

PixieDustt · 01/03/2020 09:06

I just got a shark corded lift away and I love it! So good and beats my dyson hands down

jmh740 · 01/03/2020 09:20

I've had a couple of Dysons I have a shark now and love it, I have wood floors down stairs, carpets upstairs, 2 mucky cats and 2 even muckier children and I love the shark, only negative is I wish I had got 2 batteries as it's a pain when you have to wait for it to recharge.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 01/03/2020 09:34

Our Dyson recently died and we decided to try a Shark instead. OH is the hoovering connoisseur and he's very impressed.

The price was more attractive than the cheapest dyson cordless & 5 year guarantee is great too.

I tried it out & managed to suck up one of the cats toys just by accidentally going past it! 😱

dementedma · 01/03/2020 09:37

We just got a shark. I was utterly horrified at how.much muck it sucked up! Amazing suction and can do wooden floors. Its brilliant

TenaciousP · 01/03/2020 10:43

We got the Dyson V11 Absolute a couple of weeks ago, after reading online reviews. It's fantastic. Our cleaner says it's the best vacuum she's used, so I'm going with that as an excellent recommendation. She's used a lot of vacuums!

Bellesavage · 01/03/2020 10:47

Shark, we went for a corded lift away and it's better than our Dyson stick hoover by miles. I also enjoyed sticking 2 fingers up to Dyson and his Brexit stance while purchasing the shark

MrsH497 · 01/03/2020 10:55

Had a dyson for 4 nearly 5 years and it died so got a shark (can't remember which one!) it's corded but so much lighter than the dyson. We love it very happy with our change

Rosesarere · 01/03/2020 11:01

I bought a Dyson v7 about 3 years ago, it's constanstly getting clogged up and stopping, I have recently replaced the battery too, very tempted by the shark after reading these comments

Dammandblastit · 01/03/2020 11:05

Shark corded lift away arrived aweek ago and we're all fighting nausea at how much it picked up, after a session with our dyson. We've had two dysons now and they, pardon the pun, sucked. Or didn't, rather.

PlausibleSuit · 01/03/2020 11:07

Shark's PR people will be very happy with this thread 🤣

oneoffname · 01/03/2020 12:09

Can only compare corded versions, but imo shark is far superior to Dyson. We had three Dysons over time and each one was 'good enough ' until they died - I don't think any of them lasted more than about four years. We then got a shark and couldn't believe how much better it was. Lighter, easier to manoeuvre and store than the Dysons and picked up so much more.

I actually have a different vacuum right now, as I won it in a competition. It's actually even better than the shark, but should be for the cost of it. If and the it dies, I will happily return to my shark.

MotherofKitties · 01/03/2020 12:31

I recently got a Shark powered lift away with TruePet, and my word, I was both amazed and horrified at the sheer amount of dirt it pulled out of my carpet from one go Blush(and Ive always hoovered every day due to having cats!)

I couldn't get over how much fur it pulled up, the suction is incredible and my carpets look almost like new again! Whilst I've never owned a Dyson I can't offer a comparison, but if you've got pets I'd highly recommend the Shark powered lift away with TruePet.
