Anyone else doing a huge clean/tidy/declutter today?

Just got home two nights ago after being away for two weeks and today is my big day for sorting out the house. I actually left it looking reasonably tidy but for some reason it’s now looking like an explosion has taken place - I think it’s the half unpacked suitcases, huge mess in kitchen, etc. I can already see that I am not going to get everything that I want to get done today but I will do my best!

Me! I want to put the decorations away but our dc have been at mum's for new year so Dh thinks they'll be sad if they come home and it's all gone away. I need a serious tidy up, put away mountains of washing, and a thorough deep clean! It's going to be my project for the week

MaryBoBary · 01/01/2020 13:22

Yes we've been for a walk this morning, just had lunch and now I'm ready to get all of the decorations down. I decluttered the bookcase yesterday as it always turns into a dumping ground. Then there's just the unbelievable mountain of ironing to do - I haven't done any for about 3 weeks!

NotYourTypicalNerd · 01/01/2020 13:25

Yep. I worked the two days before Xmas then again on Monday and new years eve so the house is a mess. Back at work again tomorrow for both dh and I so cracking on today.

Have done upstairs, but dreading downstairs! Have delegated all the washing to dh an he is currently doing the dishwasher!

ooooohbetty · 01/01/2020 13:27

No. Hogmanay hangover here. I'm still wearing last nights clothes and haven't moved from sofa since I got up.

Knowhowufeel · 01/01/2020 13:29

Yeah, major declutter here.

I actually started on Christmas Eve. Had 25th and 26th off and been back on it since 27th (lots to do!). Spent most of yesterday reorganizing rooms/ storage, etc, and clearing out cupboards, etc.

Notcontent · 01/01/2020 14:00

Glad it’s not just me... sadly I am back at work tomorrow so need to get as much done today as I can.

Yep me too.
Done my bedroom, put stuff in attic, half a bin bag for binning and stuff for charity shop. Was pretty ruthless.

Kids have been told to do same but are taking forever to do sfa😠
Recycling and bins emptied and glass bottles and jars ready to go to recycling centre tomorrow.

Want to get house ship shape this year it's awful (we had to move here last year) so want to get it decluttered as much as poss. Already took a car load of stuff to charity shop before Xmas!
Xmas stuff came down on Sunday and I have got rid of some things we don't need/use so less to put in attic.
Got a few days off after working up to Xmas Eve pm then up until NYE so making the most of it.
Feels good as long as I don't have to keep yelling at kids for days...the Wi-Fi might just disappear suddeny.😀

MashedSpud · 01/01/2020 14:21

No. I don’t drink so no hangover but it’s New Year’s Day. I’m cosying up with DH, eating bugles and drinking sugar free Dr Pepper.

soapysudd · 01/01/2020 14:28

Yes me! Although I'm struggling to get motivated 😩

elQuintoConyo · 01/01/2020 14:37

I got to bed at 3am and we're still all in our onesies mainlining cups of tea!

DH is taking DS out all day tomorrow so I'll get a start on the house. Tree etc still up until 6th Jan, so not worried about putting all that away. Mostly tidying up new toys, recycling, clothes washing (I've done two loads today).

I have gone through my wardrobe and written a list of different outfits that match up Blush so I can streamline a bit.

We do have IKEA furniture we bought in April to put together.....

zebrapig · 01/01/2020 14:54

I started cleaning and tidying yesterday and tackling the mountains of washing that seem to have accumulated. The play room tree is coming down today so I can tidy but the main one will stay up until the weekend I think.

Dipsydoodle · 01/01/2020 14:56

Yes! Decorations down and put back into storage, new toys and books all recovered from their various resting places around the house and put away into bookshelf/toy boxes, cleared out DD's clothes that no longer fit and put them aside for a friend to look through. Having a cup of tea now before tackling the laundry pile!

Dipsydoodle · 01/01/2020 14:57

Mind you we were all asleep by 11pm last night! And DD slept through till 7 so I feel bursting with energy!

Thefaceofboe · 01/01/2020 14:57

I did it yesterday and got called a loony by oh

frustratedashell · 01/01/2020 14:59

mrscatmad31 · 01/01/2020 14:59

needanewnamechange · 01/01/2020 15:02

Not today but I need to , I've wrote a list does that count ?
Anyway I've cleaned bathroom and hoovered , made soup put roast on and cleaned kitchen .
I need to sort my bedroom and my ds bedroom over the next couple of days not in work till Monday .

PickAChew · 01/01/2020 15:03

Nah. I'll wait until I have the house to myself, again.

Elenorrigbywoes · 01/01/2020 15:08

Yes I have started today. I'm trying to find homes for the new items received over Christmas. Sorted the pyjamas, socks and underwear baskets and got rid of any worn looking items. I can now open the cupboard without it all falling out!

Anyone else doing a huge clean/tidy/declutter today?
katy1213 · 01/01/2020 15:12

I've written a list of jobs and I'm thinking it about it very hard in a very constructive New Year's Day kind of way. (Meanwhile here I am on Mumsnet ...)

Drabarni · 01/01/2020 15:16

I started before xmas but with ds2 moving out soon, we are all decluttering ready for bedroom change over. Grin

We have taken decs down, they are all stacked in the hall to go up when we go upstairs.
I hoovered the lounge, and tidied/cleaned the kitchen.
That's enough for today, as I'm cooking a large tea later, and we're chilling tonight.
The charity shop bags are stacking up nicely though as dd sorts her clothes out, and our bins are pretty full too.

lpchill · 01/01/2020 16:33

We have been decluttering and reorganising today. All the new stuff from Christmas have homes ready for another onslaught tomorrow for DD birthday!

We are trying to cut down on crap food so a lot of the extra crap food from Christmas is being donated to my youth group- lucky buggers are getting to make a ginger bread house that DH is allergic to.

ConfusedAndStressed95 · 01/01/2020 19:06

I'm going to help my mother clean her kitchen tomorrow and then the day after shes helping me clear my childhood bedroom so it's fit for guests. Day after that the decorations are coming down.

NotYourTypicalNerd · 01/01/2020 20:38

Well, we are almost there. I just need to mop later once DC are in bed. Then it will be 'inside' stuff that needs doing, so inside the cupboard under the stairs, inside the airing cupboard organising the sheets and towels, etc.

frustratedashell · 01/01/2020 23:26

My daughter was delighted with her lovely clean flat!
