How long is it since you changed your extractor hood filter?

3 months? 6 months? Over a year? Not sure you have done it since you had the kitchen re done 6 years ago?

Well I have just three words to say about its probable contents.....

rancid fat globules

I have smelt and seen many bad bad things in my life (including a goat during post mortem, and wet gangrenous toes). This may beat them to the top of the list of things that make me go 'ugk memrmr oh bleeeerrk eckkkkkk'.

Go and replace it now. You know you need to.

DoubleBluff · 18/08/2007 11:37

You mean you have to CHANGE it?

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2007 11:40

DoubleBluff....I have been in denial about it for over 6 months now.

It's best to crack on with the everest spirit and get the hideous job done

slubber..thank heavens you nerver put rancid fatglobules in the thread title lol...

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2007 11:58

Take it out, look at the back...there lies evil.........

DoubleBluff · 18/08/2007 12:01

I take the hood apart and chuck it in the dishwasher ( remove the top drwaer) far easier.
HAven't done mine this year I think?

WanderingTrolley · 18/08/2007 12:02

I was just thinking yesterday that mine could do with changing.

Thanks for the tips, I shall wear gloves and a blindfold.

I am oddly intrigued by the dead goat with the rancid toes [the mutant] but as long as I don't find one in my extractor fan filter I'll be ok.

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2007 12:03

Ooooh double you must have a fancy hood & filter combo. Were stuck in the dark ages here with the throw away variety.

WanderingTrolley · 18/08/2007 12:04

So, this goat, why.... no no non ononono, best to not know.

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2007 12:04

Trolley, lol, the goat was a seperate entity altogether from the toes. Although thinking about it a dead goat with decomposing toes might have smelt fresher than my extractor filter.

No, never post mortem a goat.

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2007 12:10

Kerry, do you mean replace or clean the filter? The answer is yes. You need to go and look at it now. Wear protective clothing. Maybe smear Vicks under your nose to protect from the smell.

Slubberdegullion · 18/08/2007 12:11

Trolley re goat, best left to the experts, and until goat is deceased also.

Heathcliffscathy · 18/08/2007 12:11

Yes sophable, but it was getting desperate in there. And I have a lurking fear that new lifeforms may spontaneously be created behind/within neglected kitchen appliances if left to their own devices for too long.

(that browny liquid that always resides at the bottom of the crisper drawer in the fridge is another phenomenon that worries me)

suzycreamcheese · 18/08/2007 12:16

lol wnaderingtrolley..

my bathroom extractor fan oozed maggots a while back ..followed by dead pigeon claw sticking out ..after numerous visits by kind but useless rentokil man (and dh and other folks to reticify things it was removed
..it was horror..like living in a stephen king novel ...going into bathroom first thing..uugghh..shudder..always me!

all clear now ...

...and when i told people i didnt realise they automatically assumed it was my kitchen fan not bathrooom, so suppose could've been worse
lol ....now...
