Pre-Christmas House Princessing

Is there a thread about sorting out house for Christmas?

We had been planning a quiet Christmas and now have relatives coming and while I'm excited to be hosting, the house needs a lot of TLC.

So I want somewhere to record my house and garden princessing achievements. It may be some decluttering, some cleaning, bits of DIY, and eventually doing Xmas decs. Anyone else need motivating?

Yesterday I finished curtain repairs and rehung curtains.
Today I'm aiming to put bark chips mulch on beds in front garden.

@Elenorrigbywoes we have a big drawstring bag/play mat for Lego storage, which slides under the dresser, it's brilliant. And ONE shelf with a tray on it for current creations and precious bits. If it doesn't fit then choices must be made, and if it's not on the shelf it's fair game...
Playmobil now, that does my head in.

That's a great idea @dustydoorframes - where did you buy it? I need to something with the lego as santa is bringing more!

SeaSidePebbles · 03/12/2019 07:29

Ok, I’m in.
I have to go to work, but I’ll be back :)

DustyDoorframes · 03/12/2019 09:02

@Elenorrigbywoes ours is one of these, but there are tons in the market now. We've had it tree years and it's still completely rock solid!

Ok.
In the living/kitchen:
Clean the top of the cupboards
Clean and tidy the cupboards
Lay protective sheet over some shelves
Clean the oven
Maintenance cycles for both dishwasher and washing machine.
Clean cupboard doors and handles.
Clean the fridge and freezer.

Wash the shutters.
Wash the windows.
Dust the ceiling corners.
Wash the skirting boards.
Hang two paintings up.
Frame and hang family photos along one side of the entrance door wall.

Make space for the Christmas tree.
Fairy lights.
Hoover and mop the floor.

I already had the sofa and the rug professionally cleaned 2 weeks ago.

I need to do this this week. After work.

After this I’ll tackle the hallway, I’ve already sorted one massive cupboard, there is one more and then I’m done. I have bookshelves all along the hallway, I need to sort them out.

I have done my bedroom two weeks ago, I just need to wash the shutters and sort one drawer out.

Bathroom isn’t too bad, I need a new trim for the shower screen though. And I want a soft closing wooden toilet seat, but that can wait till the sales are on.
I need to clean the extractor fan and light fixture.
I could do with painting the bathroom, really, but I’ll do that in the summer.

I am not touching DD’s room of doom though!

What is princessing?

elprup · 09/12/2019 08:33

I’ve now deep-cleaned the kitchen, dining room, lounge and hallway. I just need to do a few final bits, like wiping the skirting boards, lining the tops of the kitchen cupboards with newspaper to stop dust and grease, and cleaning the outside of the kitchen windows (one of my least favourite jobs!) I also need to buy a doormat - I’m sick of guests having nowhere to wipe their feet when they come in!

Still to do: the conservatory (which has become a dumping ground for clutter recently), the stairs, landing, bathroom (including the big bathroom cupboard which is full of junk!) and the spare bedroom.

The garden is a total mess and will have to wait till spring!

I fell off this merry go round but climbing back on.

Last week went to Country Living Fair and now I have all my gifts bar one for DS2 and toiletries from Boots that has become a tradition.

So today I plan to wrap and label and do cards. Then clean and tidy the dining room which has become a dumping ground.
DH had a friend visit which spurred me onto give sitting room and kitchen another good clean and tidy. Didn’t take long for sitting room I just had to remove stuff and Clean. Kitchen was putting away a few stray items and clean work top, remove washing from radiator and Everhot.

So today DH is going into the loft to retrieve paper. I have a box ready with tape, scissors and ribbon. I have loads of left over Christmas cards for labels. Oh and a hole punch and pens.

If I get that done I will send him up for the tree tomorrow. We used to have a real tree but I bought an artificial one last year as lugging a tree through the house was getting a bit much. The birds will miss it though as we used to leave it propped up in the garden with fat balls in it so they had some shelter through the winter.

Nanalisa60 · 15/12/2019 08:36

So how did you all get on? My house is all ready for Christmas quite a lot of work but even my husband remarked how lovely it is looking.

Did you all manage to get yours looking spruced up for the festive period.

Because I started the big clean/sort out in November I have real enjoyed All the December Christmas activities so much more as I but in the hard work early, I can now spend time socialising know every thing at home Is done.

So Merry Christmas to you all and have a lovely time with your loved ones

givememarmite · 15/12/2019 19:35

Well done! Must be lovely to have it all sorted and enjoy this time.

I failed badly 😅

Have a huge to do list for this week to hopefully still get it sorted by the weekend. Luckily my kids don't finish school til Friday so should manage it. We did put the tree up today though which looks lovely so that's something!

wondering7777 · 16/12/2019 20:24

@Nanalisa60 Well done - I’m sooo envious! I’m about halfway through princessing but have just come down with a horrible cold. Such bad timing! Every year I say I’ll get it all done by early December so I can truly relax and enjoy the festive season. I’m yet to achieve it!
