Cherry waves hello to November 2019. Fledgling Flylady thread for all.[smile]

Welcome to the November Flylady thread Fledglings! All are welcome here. A few of us have been around a while but everyone, newbie and lurking, is welcome to join in.

This is my first time running the thread so I hope other fledglings will alert me when I’ve got things confused or if I’ve left something out!! A busy month for us all with the holiday season looming next month…

Very simply Flylady is a zone-based cleaning system which we loosely follow. Everyone is different and has different rooms and life demands. There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
November
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sat 30)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look but signing up for emails will probably lead to very many landing in your inbox. Also there has been some concern about securely downloading pdfs from the site. here

Flylady has an introductory scheme for newbies called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc. What I like about Flylady is her emphasis on self care, her abhorrence of perfectionism and her adage that you’re never being behind in the system - just jump in. No need to completely clean your house before you start – phew! here

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. The system isn’t brilliant for major decluttering so you might want to supplement with Kondo or another decluttering system. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of November is meal planning. This is my Achilles heel! here

We have a lovely virtual naughty corner where we can all retreat – there are all manner of lovely things left there by thread members including fluffy pillows, warm blankets, tea, coffee, wine, delicious foods. This month there are plenty of candles to brighten the darker days.
There may be mention of Ned who started life as an autocorrection on the thread but who has now morphed into a virtual helper with a specialism in putting away laundry. Ned is borrowed by thread members from time to time when the going gets tough on Mount Washmore.
Most days we pop on to post our ta da list of what we’ve managed to do and have a bit of a natter.

foxessocks · 13/11/2019 13:32

Hi everyone, sorry, I've missed quite a few posts so just jumping back in!
SC hope you're feeling less frazzled today, I'm annoyed on your behalf about all the mess your family is leaving for you to sort out! It's not on!

Ds is asleep Shock daytime naps haven't happened here for about a year so I have some rare free time. I've done lots of tidying and sorting (although once again I've ignored all the jobs I hate like mopping and dusting Hmm) . Now I'm hungry but I know if I make lunch now ds will wake up and then I'll have to make his too...ditto if I start doing some work he'll probably wake up just as I open my first email. So I'm in limbo!

Onthebrink67 · 13/11/2019 13:39

ThanksLaputa SC and Tidy he has MH issues but it feels increasingly like he expects to duck out of anything he doesn’t want to hear or do by saying he finds it stressful. I’ll lookout the headspace app and long for a meditative potting shed of my own. Nothing wrong with using TV to get some peace when things are tough mine loved nature documentaries so I could pretend it was educational 😃

Tidyhomewannabe · 13/11/2019 13:49

Enjoy the peace foxes !

Zoo congratulations for surviving 3 under 5 , mine have 4.5 year and 5 year gaps , although I wish I had them closer together , I can't imagine having them as close as you! Dd2 is 3.5 now and I'm trying to squash the broody feeling Grin

Tada
In that full HOUR , I have only managed to TIDY the living area, dining room, kitchen and started to swap the toys over to the Ikea boxes we bought at the weekend Blush although I do have dd2 'helping' so it did slow me down a little.

Coffee break then 30 mins actually cleaning, aiming to hoover through downstairs, clean toilets and the sliding doors which are full of lovely fingerprints. If I get all that done I'll spend the rest of the time in the playroom again.

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 13/11/2019 14:55

Tidy - she's year 9, DS also chose his in year 9 (now in y11, different school, both have SENs, DD v.mild though). There is a school locally that choose them in year 8 but it seems a bit soon to me. Yes, we are busy in the evenings, we all do a lot of sports and activities outside the home, until last week I finished work at 2.30 so I had time to do a bit of shopping , start dinner etc before the evening rush starts, I finish at 5 now (on a break ATM) and it is going to take a while to readjust.

Tidyhomewannabe · 13/11/2019 14:58

Ta da
Hoovered through all of downstairs
Cleaned toilets
A little more sorting in the playroom

Off on the school run then hopefully a bit more flying , I will have an organised home one day !

Tidyhomewannabe · 13/11/2019 16:16

Expletive my dd1 is year 8 and she chooses this year, I agree it does seem too soon! I can see how finishing later impacts your usual routine, will it be permanent or just for this week ?

I seem to be taking over the thread today ...... must......put.....phone.....down..........

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 13/11/2019 17:06

Onthebrink67 Flowers I think we all need a summer house like Bower's.

I have one 10 year old so my hat goes off to the lot of you juggling more.

It is icy here today. I'm thinking of Christmas but then stop short and realise that I've bought nothing at all!

I have to get Christmas presents for the German family (pen friend of old) [santa]

My stress levels have fallen and I think caffeine reduction and meditation has helped. Thanks for the heads up about alternative MH websites.

Keep warm fledglings and well done on all the ta das

Ghoulette1740 · 13/11/2019 20:00

I live in a house without a fireplace so I play an open fire dvd on the telly on the wall. How sad is that.

It was so cold today the pork hadn't defrosted in the fridge. It was still rock solid so I've left it for dinner tomorrow.

OP posts:
ChicCroissant · 13/11/2019 23:17

Sorry to be AWOL today, did get a bit more of our decluttering out of the house but spent most of the morning having coffee and chatting with friends. Have ironed and about to wash up now. DD has everything ready that she needs for tomorrow and I've done a bit more admin today.

Really need to write everything down these days otherwise it slips my mind, the brain fog at the moment is terrible! Not helped by a lot of activities going paper-free so if I don't action the emails the second I receive them it gets missed - I've got a list to work off but it's getting to the stage where I need to carry it round all the time.

Spent so much time decluttering that we went into school-sock crisis this morning, so have done some of the basics today. We will be ready for tomorrow

CaptainCautious · 13/11/2019 23:20

Can I join? I have 4 under 7 so really need to try and get my home organised

ChicCroissant · 13/11/2019 23:35

Welcome CaptainCautious, good to have you with us!

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 13/11/2019 23:42

Welcome Captain, there are quite a few new Fledglings this month, you have come to the right place.

Tidy - did you see the thread earlier today about 2 year vs 3 year GCSE courses, quite interesting. The change in my hours is for a year initially, I'm picking up work from another part-timer who has gone on mat. leave. It was my idea, its interesting work, totally different to what I normally do. However I am definitely going to have to up my game with menu planning if I don't want the DCs living on Pot Noodles.

So, today, not much Flying again. Did one load of washing, tidied a load of junk mail into the recycling, went to work, came home, straight back out to drop DD at swimming, straight home to meet DS and ascertain his plans for the evening, back out to a meeting followed by dance class (in the same building fortunately). Home to watch the Apprentice with DS. Chat with DH. A few emails. Managed to eat some toast in between all this.

Tomorrow I will get more done.

Bowerbird5 · 13/11/2019 23:50

Yes. Welcome Captain Cautious. Mine are grown up and I still need to get it under control Blush

Still haven't read everything will go to bed in a minute and do that.

Got up late as my back was sore and I had too late a night again.

TaDas
Fed cat. Wiped ear and put drops in.
Bed made.
S&S
Ted dropped in to iron a basket full of clothes, while watching Four in a Bed. He has done it all so I am sending him to SC via Zoo's house.

Mended a pair of jeans from ironing basket and another item checked over a jacket I bought and stitching has come undone on the arm so I will venture into the craft room of doom in the Crystal Maze and find the right colour thread in 27 minutes. Otherwise I will be locked in there and forced to tidy it.

Washed dishes from breakfast and put away. Put away anything out of place in the kitchen. Wipes worktops .
Made poached eggs on toast for lunch.
Tidies downstairs hall.
Cleaned out hen.Fed her treats. strawberries and crusty bread. She was in bed at 4.15pm Shock meant I got to stroke her as she was dopey and sleepy.
Fed cat.
Went to friends for tea then went to Flower club demo by quite a famous demonstrator. He gets invited to Chelsea. He does lots of wedding flowers. I have seen his creations before absolutely gorgeous. Stunning. He did Christmas ones. They were raffled off the lady next to me won the first one. My friend and I didn't get one.Sad

Right I am off to bed. Tomorrow I am planning to sort one box of books and sort out the crap in front of DH 's wardrobe. Some of it came out of the kitchen last year Blush two are medicine boxes the trouble is I prefer the fridge without these boxes and don't know where else to put them so just dumped them there till i find somewhere.

Look out for Ned tomorrow zoo.

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/11/2019 03:51

*captain" welcome
Chic dd2 informed me at 9 pm she's has last clean pair pants on after her shower.ooops.as she has around 20 pairs fair to say they've not been put in laundry basket and I refuse to go a hunting.i suspect a huge pile socks presented with them tomorrow so I shall just say after breakfast if wants them washing put in machine!!(need check D's supplies as he never tells me til there are none left)
I too struggle with brain fog.and not writing down email dates

Insomnia bad tonight, barely slept but very tired.rains lashing windows and winds howling.at least I'm cocooned in my duvet!!

CaptainCautious · 14/11/2019 03:58

Thank you for the welcomes everyone. I meant 4 7 and under, not that that makes any difference, they’re messy either way!.

I have terrible insomnia lately. I don’t sleep until 5.30-6 most nights, and by that time it’s only half hour or so until the DC wake me up. I have a GP appointment next Wednesday to sort it. I hope they can help me because I’m knackered!.

HungryHazelEyes · 14/11/2019 06:34

Welcome captain!

Had a busy night tonight, had dinner, leftovers so easy to do (cheesy meatball casserole with butternut squash zoodles). Had to go to the store to find dh some new shoes as his were hurting his feet. Dd needed an outfit for choir so got that too.

Got home, put together casserole for dh work potluck Friday, will have to get baked tomorrow (needs time to cool before going in the fridge). That is a chicken jalapeno popper casserole that the guys all love!

I wasn't feeling the greatest at all this evening-nauseous, so I really didn't want to be doing anything, oh well. We did get the kitchen all cleaned up though and I got my clothes ready for tomorrow.

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 14/11/2019 07:55

Omg i feel rough
My head is banging and my nose streaming
Blowing my nose is like being stabbed in the head Sad

LivingInLaputa · 14/11/2019 08:38

Welcome captain :)

Oh no ive :(

Got a not too terrible amount of sleep last night. Playgroup today, and gym for DD, DH has a meeting too and then we have our support worker too. Going to sneak in a quick visit to the steam room while DD has gym, I’m looking forward to mainly chatting with other mums but I finally have a swimming costume so I can get back in there for a bit, I’ve really missed it. Hopefully I’ll feel well enough to actually swim next week.

Yesterday was great, the play (man in the white suit, with Stephen Mangan) was really funny. And bra shopping was a success. Knackered now.

Onthebrink67 · 14/11/2019 08:42

Welcome Captain and sympathy to Ive. Lots of paracetamol, ibuprofen and tv for the kids and hopefully you may feel a bit more human. Just had a text that a cherry tree I ordered for a fortnight’s time is coming today so will have to find a temporary home for it in the dark when I get in after work. Otherwise it’s ironing tonight if Ned were free could I borrow him please

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 14/11/2019 09:09

Ty for the sympathy!

Laputa are you still doing shop and scan? I got kicked off Blush

Ta da

School run and shit

Sistercharlie · 14/11/2019 10:29

Good morning all! Wow this thread is moving fast! It is great to have so many newcomers on board though! Helps with the motivation too!

A warm welcome to CaptainCautious! Insomnia must be hard to cope with when you have so many young 'uns [tea]

Oh no I've sorry you are feeling rough. There are lots of bugs about currently Brew [honey] [lemon]. Hope you feel much better soon. And that was an amazing ta da list you posted yesterday btw!

Hope you are feeling better today too Hungryhazeleyes

And how are things with you Onthebrink? How lovely about your cherry tree!

Great you have a swimsuit sorted Laputa and go steady today - London is tiring in intself - swimsuit and bra shopping even more so!

Tidy and Expletive Good luck to all of those young 'uns choosing GCSE options! Hope the decision-making isn't too onerous!

Expletive hope longer hours going ok and you can delegate a bit

Zoo and Chic sympathies re: pant & sock crises! They happen here all the time, because, as you say, no one bothers to actually put stuff in the laundry basket. Having said that, I just noticed that it it is full to the brim again, and I emptied it totally on Sunday and Monday, so they must be putting something in there Confused

Love the sound of flower club Bower! And lucky Penny Henny being fed strawberries!

It's pretty nippy here too Ghoulette glad you are feel a wee bit less stressed Brew I like the sound of your virtual fire! Far less ash to constantly sweep up!

Tidy you are being far too hard on yourself Flowers Pat yourself on the back for doing that full hour! There is no "only" about it! Even if we can only manage 5 mins a day - that 5 mins is much better than nothing - so a full hour is really something ifyswim! Hope your dd2 is feeling better today.

And that goes for any other littlies (or oldies) who are feeling a bit under the weather!

KTcluck choring really is ground hog day material isn't it? Thanks for mindfulness tips.

Thanks for the support Foxes and yes - despite the house still being a total pit - I am feeling much less frazzled today! I hope your ds sleeps again this afternoon so you get another patch of "me" time.

Cherry/cheery waves to anyone I have missed!
