Autumn leaves and a clean sweep: it's the October Fledgling Fly thread (2019)

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes, and energy-levels!

Please note that, athough Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now, or sign up to the (many and frequent) e-mails (but your choice as some fledglings find the latter helpful).

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cakeand Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows (but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here and here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here and here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Hi,
You have all been so busy. I feel a bit * I have had two days where making breakfast was the only thing I have done. I had to go to a gruelling meeting for three and a half hours and was exhausted and upset afterwards. So DS@ was off and took me away. Bless him. I found email from DH to someone saying how worried the family were about me.He doesn't say much. I didn't realise he was worried. He is right to be but I din't realise he was that worried.
Anyway it was good to get away. I visited the project and sorted out a couple of things there and this morning stripped all the beds and washed some and brought the rest home to do. Otherwise i read a whole book which was excellent and gripping and for a while I could leave me fears alone. We ate out as we can walk into the village. So had lovely beef in red wine and mash, curry and a Ploughman's for lunch which had the yummiest Scotch eggs I have ever eaten. Curry we chose different ones and shared. The owners are from southern India so have some different dishes.Lots of layers of spices without being too hot.
Whizzed around house today as felt a bit better despite restless night.
DS2 vacuumed the hall and two flights of stairs. He helped clean fridge out too and I swept floor and laid table for next time. We then collect all the rest of the towels to take home and wash. There were lots of people staying last week so extra bedding and towels and dozen tea towel due to the buffet we made for everyone. New things arriving soon then our job is done and it will be holiday let.I can't believe it has been two years and will miss our time to together although the Bishop has another smaller project for us which we start next spring. We have never had an arguement can you believe that?

I also had teens and toddlers. DS1 adored DD. I had two teens then and eight year old and DD toddling. She went to football training a lot!

Super tonight. I had two boiled eggs and DH had prawns and chicken salad. I just wanted something light as I stupidly ate a bit of blue cheese about a tbls full if that and had tea with milk twice as the almond milk had been left out and had gone off. I had a stomach after the curry and all night and today. It was the dairy not the curry as it started before I went out. DS@ couldn't believe such a small amount could affect me so much.

Thank you for kind thoughts and wishes. I can't talk about it.

Bowerbird5 · 05/10/2019 20:56

Another one with arthritis. Wrists and feet. a bit in one knee i suspect.

LivingInLaputa · 05/10/2019 21:53

Bower hugs xxx

My only achievements today were cooking dinner and catching up with Inktober!

Slowchirp · 05/10/2019 22:59

Bower I'm so glad you were able to get away; the meeting sounds awful. Glad the family are there to offer support. Take it steady x

I didn't do much flying last week , i worked a couple of mornings and had meetings with school (general 'what we expect from your child by the end of the year' stuff) , yesterday I managed to finish off the paperwork, so today at some point, I'm hoping oh will pop what we don't need to hand, up in the loft . Any clean uniform is ironed , so I feel a little organised!

To do
Try and get some sleep (I went to bed about 11.30 and I've been awake since 1.30!)
Paperwork in the loft
Encourage kids to be on top of all homework
General chores
I may get the sewing machine out later with dd1 depends what time we have once homework is done

Slowchirp · 06/10/2019 06:34

Hey Tidy good to see you! Hope you got to sleep eventually and top marks re: paperwork and uniform organisation!

It's 7.30 am here and I am off out to visit he of the dinner plate feet! Wink. I probably will be off-line for much of today so have a good Sunday everyone!

Morning,
Slept well in my own bed. Plus the meds I am on. Only woke up once and went back to sleep after about half an hour which is good because I have been awake with thoughts and worries wizzing around my head the last few weeks.
I have Mass and then choir today. Might try and plant the last few pots in the garden. The new rockery plants have started to spread and it is looking more natural now. I am going to plant lots of bulbs in pots to replace garden bulbs and then I can move them about.

Lovely to see you back Tidy we stop start with the flying just remember any tiny job is a step nearer our goal.

I haven’t seen sight nor sign of Ned so hope he is working for one of you and not skivving.

No other plans for today but thinking about what I will try and achieve tomorrow. Washing of all sheets and towels done x5 loads 😀 🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫 left for those who need it.

Welcome Elloello! Good luck with it all!

Agree that the number of e-mails Flylady sends can be excessive!

I'm afraid I haven't bought anything from the Flylady range of products (except the book) but a standard A4 document case sounds like a good idea, not least because you would have to keep the amount of paper down in order for it all to fit in!

Most of our (secondary) school letters etc (except that requiring an actual signature) comes on-line now via school Internet hub thing, but I'm ashamed to say that I am still finding and shredding primary school communications - yes I am that disorganised and lagging behind - yargh! Determined to get on top of paperwork last two weeks of Oct though!

Ta da:
I've been driven in by wind and rain and have used the time to buy X 2 birthday presents and X 2 Christmas presents for my two god-daughters.

Sunny now again so heading out again!

Slowchirp · 06/10/2019 14:22

And in the blink of an eye the weather has changed again ... back to wind and rain ... gah!

Looks like I might have to do some end-of-season cleaning after all... [sob]

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/10/2019 16:10

elloello welcome!I stuff the odd letter(most online now) in clear A4 polywallet(?)I got from either £shop or wilko as a)if I can see what inside I deal with it b) in plastic it won't get anything spilled on it c) if I had anything bigger to ram stuff in I'd never get round to sorting anything!Blush

Tada
A drag everyone to town day as lil zoo needed shoes as her super cheapo ones were let wet in.she now has new ones, and whilst in town acquired kibble for cats and various other bits plus pop in Aldi to pick up some cereal/fruit etc.then twas just case drag it home on foot
Lunch
Out into garden to attack monster hedge.theres another leaf growing in it to the first corner, small dark green leaves, very woody.hard bloody work getting it cut back.filled brown bin clearing less than two foot of it to waist height...clearly this will take a long time to get under control!!
Also cut next doors hedge back down to waist height +as recommended by police) so that horrid boy can be seen if throws stones at house again/lurks in wait for next doors granddaughter..
I'm officially exhausted now
Also had clear up poo paw prints and said prints off bed put in wash to discover half way thru cycle it stopped and wouldn't restart,so now draining ready to try again
I should add this week I gave NOT been some stepford wife that washed uniforms on Friday night and they are awaiting a turn in wash as I start to panic about getting everything wash and dry before morning!!

Tea tonight will be salmon, new potatoes with parsley butter, cabbage and carrots
Peach(tinned) and blueberry(frozen) crumble
Dd2 and I are having blackeye bean and mushroom stew with rosemary.the potatoes and veg.maybe the crumble...
