Autumn leaves and a clean sweep: it's the October Fledgling Fly thread (2019)

Slowchirp · 30/09/2019 13:27

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes, and energy-levels!

Please note that, athough Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now, or sign up to the (many and frequent) e-mails (but your choice as some fledglings find the latter helpful).

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cakeand Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows (but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here and here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here and here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Feed a cold, starve a fever! sorry you are feeling awful well done for keeping going Flowers Tidy

Yes still not back yet. I have gone back through all my bags and have a bag of paper, some confidential on the fire and sorted the rest out and named it all. Less bags now.
Feel quite good about it wonder whether I should just recycle the rest but also would like to pass it on to another Nurture Group. I have two bags of resources for somebody.
Cut cat's nails. She was not pleased but was ok after I gave her a big cuddle.
Made ham sandwich which I have only just eaten as been sorting through all the pages.Found something important which I could have done with finding two weeks ago. Still might not be too late.
Coal man has been. He is such a jolly chap and likes 5 minutes chat.DH must have forgotten that he was coming.
Phone call from friend about choir.
Need to vacuum sitting room and dining room now I can get under the table.
Then ironing for this weekend as going near Lisette. Look out on Sunday if you are shopping as you might see me with a few friends! Grin

Tidyhomewannabe · 23/10/2019 17:06

Thank bower, great achievement re paperwork !

Ta da
Dd2s toys sorted and all found homes
Unplugged various Xbox wires from tv do I could move all the electrical stuff out/off the cupboard
Thrown cupboard out (broke beyond repair)
Cleaned area underneath cupboard

Now cooking dc tea whilst waiting for the floor to dry so I can move a different cupboard to house Xbox , tv and ds toys.

Ds has been asleep since last update complaining of a headache, I'm guessing he'll be starting with the dreaded cold soon Sad

foxessocks · 23/10/2019 17:29

Sorry about the colds, we've all just got rid of ours, they're definitely doing the rounds!

Everyone has been very productive! I'm not sure I have. Did have a bit of a sort out of dd clothes and found a Halloween costume that's too small for my 2 so have offered it on FB for free to someone local to collect. Good deed of the day!

Got my payslip and they either over paid me last month or underpaid me this month Confused so had to email and ask about that. Tried to find my contract but failed. All this decluttering I do and I can still never find what I need when I need it!

Dh mopped the kitchen floor when he got home. I do like having him around more (not just for the housework help! Ha!)

Dinner is veggie burgers , wedges and beans, can't wait I'm so hungry!

ChicCroissant · 23/10/2019 20:05

Yay, officially half-term now. Will catch up shortly, not much flying today but the day ain't over yet ....

ChicCroissant · 23/10/2019 20:05

Loving the name changes as well!

Ghoulette1740 · 23/10/2019 20:19

PsychoSmirk, were you SC formerly?

Ghoulette1740 · 23/10/2019 20:21

Bower enjoy!

PsychoSmirk · 23/10/2019 21:46

PsychoSmirk, were you SC formerly?

Aye, sorry, not very helpful to name change in the middle of thread-leading! It was meant to (sort of) rhyme with Slowchirp... Confused

Hope you will all forgive me but just going to post links and run. Hope everyone who is feeling stressed/poorly feels better very soon Flowers And well done on all the various declutterings going on Star!

I am feeling a bit grotty tonight - stomach cramps and a bit hot and cold and dog tired - and dd hostility/visitors/stress of nationality dossier etc are doing me in! Visitor "helped" by preparing part of supper which was very kind but then left all the mess for me to clear up. Then dd complained that she didn't have a white shirt for morning and luckily I had washed them today but have yet to hang them up ...so quickly ...

here are links for morrow ...

G'night all! Sleep tight and don't let Brexit bite Grin

Tidy I agree with Bower that you were a Star to keep ploughing on despite feeling grotty!

ChicCauldron · 23/10/2019 21:49

I've joined the Halloween namechanging as well, ChicCroissant.

ExpletiveDEVILighted · 23/10/2019 22:28

Halloween Grin
Tidyhomewannabe · 24/10/2019 13:23

Hi everyone

Well the germs have spread to ds and dd2 has started with it this morning. Ds was so weak, I had to spoon feed him some ice cream this morning just so he had a little sugar/fluid in his system, I think it's more flu like than a sniffle , his temp hasn't come down from around 39.5 all night/morning . I'm still badly but trying to potter around in between resting & looking after the kiddies.

Tada
Shower
Beds made
Tidied entrance hall & stairs
Cleaned banister & light switches
Sprayed dettol air freshener everywhere in vain attempt to kill any germs
Computer table set up with xbox & tv (still lots to do in the playroom but I don't think I'll get in there today)

To do
Hand washing up
Attempt to take some clean washing upstairs
Take dd1 to dance lesson

Tidyhomewannabe · 24/10/2019 13:24

Loving all the Halloween name changes !!

PsychoSmirk · 24/10/2019 13:28

Afternoon ghoulies Grin

Phew and thrice phew! Having had a putrid day yesterday: feeling a bit off, battling with complex tech and even more complex French for new school volunteering role and having huge doubts about my capabilities to carry it out effectively, massive stress related to nationality dossier, plus ongoing domestic chaos Grin; nearly all of them have got hugely better in the space of a morning! Yay!

Volunteering role questions have largely been resolved and I don't have to do as much as I thought - tech has been circumvented - a couple of people have been outstandingly kind and helpful - maths tutor has cancelled for tonight so things can stay a bit of a mess for longer Wink and I am feeling considerably better! Plus, it is a sunny day and not too cold! And I have just tried on a new pair of trousers that fit! And a bra that I bought on-line ! Whoo-hoo!

How is everyone else doing?

Hope you can resolve the washer/dryer dilemma soon I've - would a heated clothes horse (Lakeland) be any good? And hope dc4 is feeling a bit more cooperative today!

I hope your cold is no worse Tidy Brew Sorry dd2 has succumbed. Hope your ds is ok! Wishing you more power to your elbow decluttering the playroom!

Your gp sounds great Bower glad you are able to take it a bit steady. Glad you are feeling a bit less stressed than before. Good job on the paperwork!

Foxes "All this decluttering I do and I can still never find what I need when I need it!" You are not alone! I must say that to myself at least three times a day!

Enjoy half term Chic!

Waves to Expletive Zoo and Honu and everyone else!

PsychoSmirk · 24/10/2019 13:30

x post Tidy oh dear that's such a shame everyone is poorly during the holidays, it's so worrying when the tinies are ill too, remember to look after yourself too Brew and hope everyone feels better soon!

foxessocks · 24/10/2019 17:37

sc sounds like a good day Smile , don't you just love it when someone cancels and you get to stay in and / or not tidy up. 😂

I've been somewhat productive today , made some shortbread, worked , laundry (although a lot is still in piles around the house Hmm), online food shop

Dinner is cooking, easy one tonight, chicken pies (from the freezer!) mash and veg

Hope the colds are getting better!

Bowerbird5 · 24/10/2019 19:18

Sorry to hear children not well Tidy look after yourself too.

Well things don't always go as planned do they?
Plan was to take stuff into school and collect another bag and two boxes. However no one is allowed in. So went to Union to ask them to scan and send some notes but the rep I see was off this week so said I could leave it for next week.

Foxes I agree. We have burgers which we rarely have. Dh has buggered off to the pub. I was expecting him to make the tea as I did the last two nights although last night just added mushrooms and tomatoes to left over Med Veg and sliced the remaining lamb shoulder and put foil over it and bunged the lot in the oven.Wink
Went to Hospice book shop and they had FOUR yes 4 books of a new author plus the lady had read all her books and was able to tell me they were worth reading the other area series. She said 'light reading but enjoyable' I said, ' that is just how I see them and just what I need at the moment.' Still total less than one new book and I promised to bring them back when I have read them so they can sell them again though the Lakes ones will go to the project.
Went to another shop that I used to take the boys too and spent an hour there. Butchers on the way back. I think DH would have liked lunch but time on car ran out. Free two hour. I had enough anyway. Lunch and a short film. Not got much done. Have ironing to do. Did some tidying in boudoir. DH took garden stuff to the tip.

Found the scissors this afternoon that I needed yesterday and this morning.

PsychoSmirk · 24/10/2019 20:31

I do indeed Foxes! Grin

Star for your productive day!

Gosh, such awful awful news about those Chinese migrants, what a terrible way to die Sad

So horribly Sad Certainly puts one's minor problems in to perspective. Sad

Tidyhomewannabe · 24/10/2019 21:06

I haven't seen any news today, I am guessing something devastating has happened Sad

Loving everyone's lists, bower I'm so sorry about work Thanks hopefully you'll be able to sort it next week .

Tada
Watched : tangled, a bugs life, justice league, how to train your dragon 3, up, bolt and currently watching Spider-Man. We've been snuggled on the sofa all day. I kept trying to carry on, however I think we've got another disturbed night ahead so I had a word with myself and decided self care and looking after dc is more important than chores Grin I achieved lots yesterday so I'm still further than what I was this time last week Must.Think.Positive.Thoughts Smile

Bowerbird5 · 24/10/2019 21:23

I'm coping thanks. I was hoping to get some stuff out of my house though.I have bags and bags of resources and two boxes of books I haven't even started on. I thought it would be easier to pop back in half term. Then I can sort out the remaining stuff at leisure. Going to give some to another Nurture Group all the ones in our city seemed to have stopped.
Wrapped present and took it to BF DH. Tail end of the family meal.
Burger for tea.
Still haven't seen Ned doing any ironing.Think he sloped off to pub with DH.

PsychoSmirk · 24/10/2019 21:37
Stilllivinginazoo · 24/10/2019 21:54

tidy it's better to slow right up and still have energy tend your brood if you get very poorly than power thru and get exhausted and grumpy with everyone!(we have most those films😁 btw)

SC was indeed very sad.well done on the list!
Foxes it's been awful drizzly day here.pie n mash would've been just the ticket!!

Lil zoo had ballet tonight, quick sandwich tea for her after

I've continue Wade thru recipes.written out around 200,loads more to do.lots of new ideas
Dd1 drop in after physio.has assessment from independant assessor next week about potential compensation.shes not bothered really, but partner convince her go for it as if they decide she's entitled to it,she is!
Pups proving very stressful for her.cant get anything done, has regular accident(she went loo yesterday whilst he was napping on sofa and he snuck upstairs and pick up pair partners on bottoms then trip on them rolling down the stairs yelping.gave her a near heart attack!she messenger me photos after got in today.he got scared and crap extensively(liquid) whilst she out in his crate.had put him in garden and sort crate, then him....had row her partner yesterday as she's got 2weeks til starts new job and has achieved nothing whilst off caring for pup and partner asking why don't just crate him and crack on.she feels bad as he cries you do that...she loves pup but finds doing most his care right now exhausting and she frets he's bored, unhappy, and will be sad if crated or shouted at too much.i said it will get easier(I hope it will) as they get into a routine.also said having kids be easy after thisGrin

Booked ice skating online for lil zoo for halloween.a friends mum is having them.back to hers for Halloween dress up,games and fun afterwards

Tidyhomewannabe · 24/10/2019 22:32

Hopefully puppy will settle soon zoo they are nearly as time consuming as kids in the early days! How's the ballet lessons going?

I've just caught the news at 10 - them poor people must've been desperate Sad so very sad !

Oh has just taken dd2 up to bed so I'm off to see if we manage a little bit of sleep tonight! I think ds may sleep but dd2 is cough cough cough, so I'm sure she will be in my bed before long Smile
