Autumn leaves and a clean sweep: it's the October Fledgling Fly thread (2019)

Slowchirp · 30/09/2019 13:27

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes, and energy-levels!

Please note that, athough Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now, or sign up to the (many and frequent) e-mails (but your choice as some fledglings find the latter helpful).

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cakeand Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows (but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here and here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here and here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

SC hope you get the night's sleep you crave. How long is the guest staying?

Slowchirp · 19/10/2019 08:00

Thanks Bower I slept like a log as it happens; just as well because have a very full day. [Felt really tired last night.]. Guest (and entourage) here until next weekend. Loads happening between now and then.

Hope everyone has a good weekend! I am going over to a friend's this afternoon to watch the vote. Before then have to sort laundry, do supermarket shop, do paperwork and clean downstairs prior to physics tutor arrival.

Waves to all fledglings!

Rearranged, found and bought all together and placed under computer table all workbooks I've bought for D's,school science textbooks loaned and dd2 old year 9 exercise books in pathetic hope I can glean even a hint of education whilst school and LEA piddle around deciding who is responsible for that(and law states no child should go uneducated longer than 15 days )
Finish sort thru medicine box

ExpletiveDelighted · 19/10/2019 08:29

Morning all, just caught up on a week's worth of thread. I'm in bed with a cuppa and a cat and a snoring DH but need to get moving for 9am appointment, back later.

Pamper box checked(found my missing nail varnish remover!!) And put under dd2 bed

Forgot lil zoo has ballet class this morning!!(relaxed one, not technical)it's near a bigger co op than nearest one so may walk over and leave dd2 to bring her back whilst I pop shops then come home and crack on!!

Bowerbird5 · 19/10/2019 10:19

Morning,
Bacon and egg buttie available here !

Fed cat
Stacked dishwasher.

Ned to light fire. Ha ha , he’s popped up again as a typo. Hope that means he’s going to go for logs.

Cat isn’t so good. I heard her jump down last night don’t know where from but she is not walking well and wobbly. Not able to jump up on sofa last night. Eating and drinking ok. I hope she has just jarred herself but she is old we don’t know how old. Not in pain when you feel her spine. DH away otherwise I would take her to vet. She is DDs cat she will be devastated if anything happens to her. I was just thinking yesterday how well she was looking ( big mistake) and how her coat looked good after a brush.
Do you think she will be ok? DH home Sunday.
I wonder if she jumped off arm of the sofa instead of going onto the cushions and then onto the floor.

Also need to do dining room. Thinking I might remove everything in the wrong place and put in the inning room then sort and put it away. Just a few things in here need moving .
Need to do some tidying in bedroom too.

LivingInLaputa · 19/10/2019 14:19

Morning all. Oh no. Afternoon.

I’ve been ridiculously avoidant for ages, even tiny tasks have been put off. But I have a meeting with our family support worker on Thursday and I wanted to make her proud rather than feeling like a failure for not doing anything. So last night/this morning I organised a list, I’ve broken it down into the next four days and which of us needs to do what. Feels a little more achievable now although I’m still ignoring a lot of the bigger things.

Everything takes so long though! I’ve just spent a couple of hours sorting through four (much appreciated) big bags of hand me downs from a friend for Cagletini. Keeping about a third of it, have divided the rest into charity/rags. Not entirely sure where to put the stuff we are keeping though Hmm

Slowchirp · 19/10/2019 16:20

Waves to everyone!

Ta da:
emptied DW
bakery run
cooked DD and guests breakfast
hand washing up
wms on
dog walk
supermarket big shop
unpacked it all
cleaned up kitchen a bit; sink, stove, bin etc
over to friends
back to greet DD physics tutor
tidied up sitting room/made tea

I have drunk too much wine watching Parliament telly with lovely friend whose pension rights, property tax, access to health care etc etc may all be affected by Brexit as much as ours are - if not more in their case ... all a bit tense ... . Hardly drink nowadays and certainly not this early in the day!

Well done Laputa power of three + small steps is good!

Hope dcat is ok Bower would the vet come out to you (in an emergency) by any chance? Hopefully, she's just got a bit of a bad back that will resolve with rest if back not immediately painful on touch.

Well done with all the educational decluttering Zoo!

Waves to Expletive and I've and everyone else!

Must go and walk furries again!

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/10/2019 16:40

bower I'd wait and watch if she's able to eat drink and use her litter trayFlowers
Sc I am scandalised you behaving in such drunkenly fashion at this hourGrin
Laputa well done on the organising a list.that the hardest part for me.once it's written down away I go (how I've done the mahoosive declutter this last week and a half)

Zoolets plastic drawers fell apart and crumbled as try to move it!!(v old and cheap)so now items are on chests of drawers.will pick up a shower caddy next week when have enough funds.seen one that will fit neatly in corner of shower in Argos toothbrushes and paste will need keeping in pants drawers as one my kits has bit of a thing for either knocking pits off sill into littertray or trying to have a craft chew on the bristles
Deep cleaned around littertray and tray with litter tray sanitiser

More bags decluttered under dining table
(Still a couple to go)

Been through my phone, decluttering emails and crappy shot photos.i really should start on my Pinterest account weeding out the excessive pins I won't use....

Slowchirp · 19/10/2019 22:32

Hey all!

Stone cold sober now I promise Zoo! Congrats on yet more fantastic decluttering! Star Star Star

I didn't get much more done except serve supper and watch Strictly after 2nd dog walk. Have also left clearing up for tomorrow which I know I will regret in the morning Confused.

CBA to turn on big computer, so going to post links in two posts as "current" open page on this tablet thing closes when I swap between two tabs for some reason.

I actually ironed today as I am trying to be my 'future friend' as TOMM says. DD and DH have shirts for the week I only ironed one of my own though DD has four days in school next week before it's half-term. Tomorrow I will make lists and menu plan and generally plan the week better.

Also have more clothes/shoes to dispose of, outgrown stuff from DD. Really need to go through the hall cupboard again, there were jackets in there for DD that wouldn't go anywhere near her - not sure how they missed the last purge actually!

Ta da

Washing up
Removing large parts of local forest and river from DD's clothes
Ironing/folding dry laundry/hanging wet stuff/extreme stain removal techniques deployed
Shopping

Tomorrow
to-do list
menu planning
more ironing/laundry/blah
Handwashing of dancewear and tights/scarves

See you tomorrow!

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/10/2019 03:40

Had an early night and woke up at 230 feeling like it was morning.gah!been laying in bed reading...
Chic may I ask exactly how you launder dancewear/tights?I've avoided this far for fear wrecking things...

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/10/2019 06:05

Dozed a bit, maybe hour total.accepting defeat and getting up as minds whirring with today's to do list! I've had around 5/6 hours which is pretty good these daysI can drop of in seconds, literally, but stating asleep a while different ball of wax...
Today need pop town for kit kibble supplies, wild bird supplies and a kettle after scoutcat incident earlier in week.then food shopping, laundry and having"d"p underfoot.

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/10/2019 18:26
LivingInLaputa · 20/10/2019 19:07

I’m here just lurking x

ChicCroissant · 20/10/2019 20:11

I handwash the dancewear zoo, I have some handwash (or is it woolies) liquid that I use but I have used dishwashing liquid in the past. I think that fades it less than putting it in the machine no scientific evidence for this by the way

I have booked another activity for the half-term today, done some laundry, put the dry stuff away and repiled part of the ironing pile (I'm making re-piliing a thing). I have a few piles but will get through them this week.

DD has been planning her halloween outfit for a disco later this week, we've had tea late tonight I was late putting the chicken in the oven so just resting before the cleanup commences. However - all uniform ready and ironed, lunch boxes clean and ready to go! Will pick out my own clothes and accessories as well because that makes such a difference (as well as making me look a lot better too!).

DD now ploughing through homework, leaves it until Sunday evening like her mother Grin

Slowchirp · 20/10/2019 22:02

Quiet today. Hope everyone ok.

Whey hey re: ironing and mega uniform organisation Chic Star

Wish I knew (about the sleep) Zoo!

Waves to Laputa and everyone else.

Tired here. All I have done is cooked for guests and washed up x 3 and walked dogs. Desperate for some alone time. Must be more productive tomorrow. Find it difficult to crack on with guests present though.

Morning everyone!

I've been awol again , struggled a little last week, I was helping Mum make some difficult decisions about her future (life insurance, wills, choosing where she would like to pass etc) plus it was Mil and late fil wedding anniversary on Saturday, so I've been emotionally drained, not much flying (although I have started the enormous task of sorting out the children's playroom, hopefully I'll finish that today)

It's the start of half term today for my youngest 2 so lots of days out planned , I'll be flying in between (maybe Wink)

Ta da
Coffee ☕️
Dishwasher emptied
Dd1 lunch
Dry washing folded
Living room tidied (should've done this last night but snuggled watching how to train your dragon with ds instead)

I'm going to take the kids to the local museum today, I would like to get the morning routine done beforehand , if I can persuade the younger 2 out of bed !

Slowchirp · 21/10/2019 09:25

Good morning all!

Good morning Tidy that does all sound like very hard going; I know it's difficult, especially during half term, but can you try and carve out a bit of time for yourself? Flowers.

Ta da:
not the best start to the day; frantic search for dd sports top; found eventually!
dd massive packed lunch (as she's at school from before 8am until after 8 pm today)
emptied dw and tidied up from dinner last night Blush
stacked dw again and put it on
emptied overnight washing and hung up
made pumpkin soup
guest kindly offered to dog walk but only took them for 10 mins so will have to do that myself again later grrrr
dining room table hot spot

To do:
write letters and cards
post
gather washing together >washing from upstairs>downstairs
triage mountain of laundry
keep doing laundry
a load of photocopying for work(and I mean about three days worth)
on-line supermarket order
evening school meeting

Have a productive Monday everyone!

🐈 cat was improved by the time DH came home yesterday and is gradually doing things she normally does thank goodness. I was going to take her today but she seems so much better. I think she must have jarred her old bones. She was weeing, drinking, eating as normal. Not wobbling now and sat washing herself yesterday which was great.

Busy yesterday at Mass, coffee and catch then home for lunch before choir.
Boudoir which is good because I had started mine last week but one side messy. Basket of clean washing to put away and hot spots need tidying. I vacuumed on Saturday so that doesn’t need doing but dusting does. So radio on and need to crack on.

Tidy can you get them to help by bribing with trip out? Then jobs done and maybe out earlier. Museum sounds good. Half term here too.

Stilllivinginazoo · 21/10/2019 10:41

Morning!
Another 4hour night here,I'm tired and very very irritable (caused by "d"p being here.long story)

Tada
Fed cats
Kitchen-
Surfaces wiped
Tiling wiped
Cupboard fronts wiped
Sills wipes
Windows cleaned
Floor swept

DS boy dungeon
Windows cleaned
Polish
Swept floor

Breakfasts and snacks sorted

Get ready for school meeting

We had meet dd2 head of year today.was her tutor for 3years,before switch to year head which means he knows her very well, anyways they are having a invitation only parents eve Thursday might for anyone they're worried about re GCSE exams.dd2 was v upset I was invited to attend as she said "a naughty kids parents get asked" I can't do Thursday night(ballet for lil zoo) so he offered first thing today
We talked thru he subjects and what she felt was going good/not so good.maths tutor they've offered is amazing, but no sync into current maths topic so he's going sort that.chemustry does extra catch up once a week at lunch which she's going to join.hes given her task of doing a timetable for both homework and revision as he agrees she's spending too long on her coursework.shes to present evidence done it on Friday morning.hes concerned she's going to crash and burn out before exams, and given rate going I feel it is currently inevitableSadHe us adamant school have her back and is proactive, not reactive so will be set her little tasks and help her reset goals as nec.he is very nice.young, motivated and genuinely cares about the girls in his care and relates well with them so I think she more likely to listen to him than me!!fingers X

Came home
Wash on
Hoover hall stairs and landing
Dust available surfaces in girls room of doom
Wipe windows
Sweep floor

Went to move cat bowls to new location in bathroom only to discover "d"p had shut bathroom door last week(despite repeat warnings not to as cat bowls are by it)and I've now got loads mouldy cat kibble stuck in bristles under the door.FUMING and how the fuck do i get them out?smells make me heave(even nice ones) so it's going to be HORRIFIC)

To do
Sort living room
Have a think of way to remove kibble from bristles
Sort recipes

ChicCroissant · 21/10/2019 10:57

Can you comb the kibble out of the bristles, has it gone hard zoo?

Morning! Didn't lay out my own clothes or clear up properly but about to do a tad of exercise as I am still putting weight on Angry I would like to drop a bit before we head into the next decade at the end of the year.

Washed dancewear, rammed shredded paper into various paper bags to put into recycling bin (must save any fast food bags and boxes for this purpose in future) which got rid of a binbag about a third full of shredded paper which has been getting in the way.

Laundry on, and I'm feeling productive. Catch you later!

Stilllivinginazoo · 21/10/2019 11:34

chic nice work!!
Sadly it's gone kind of crumbly/crumby.but that could work.worth a try!!
