Small square 'saucer' for 3 litre cooking oil bottle. Disgusting shelf!

Does anyone have a solution?

Basically, the design of the bog standard Asda bottle means that however careful one is, you're always going to get oil in under the plastic collar of the bottle when you pour it which will run down the outside of the bottle and onto the shelf underneath.

It's a small, 3 sides enclosed shelf so I need a 'just big enough' square shallow container to put the bottle in, as it shares the shelf with Olive oil, vinegars etc.

Any ideas?

Just spent 30 mins scrubbing congealed oil off the shelf!

My oil /vinegar /soy sauce shelf is minging, despite me wiping it regularly.
The one above collects honey drips.
I may have to burn the cupboard.
(it'll go up nicely)
And you don't deep fry chips in olive oil, so I would assume that you make a lot of vinegrette to drizzle over healthy salads. Hopefully this is acceptable to the MN police!

Honey now sits in a shallow plastic takeaway container

BruceAndNosh So what should I fry my Mars bars in? I like a nice crispy batter on them Grin

@Miljah beef dripping or goose fat obviously! Also good for deep fried battered pizzaGrin

sheshootssheimplores · 13/06/2019 14:28

I solved mine by putting a shallow box in the cupboard and all the drippy things sit in this box. I’ll take a photo for you when I go downstairs🤭

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 13/06/2019 14:40

I use an old plastic good storage box to store ALL my bottles of oils in, that's my olive oil, my rapeseed oil, my walnut oil and sesame seed oil. (Just waiting for my oil shaming from SpoonBlender). I then just wash out the box from time to time.

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 13/06/2019 14:43

Oh, I forgot about the jar of goose fat and the block of butter in the fridge - God there's no hope for me. I'll just go and have a piece of Cake. Grin

I wish the shelf concerned wasn't such an awkward shape! Then I'd do the 'shallow tray' for all of them idea!

I use a small square tupperware box with a square cut from a fat controller sheet to catch the drips.

simonisnotme · 13/06/2019 20:22

i tape a piece of kitchen roll round my oil bottle

Bumblenut · 13/06/2019 20:57

I use something like this to keep oil, salt, pepper and similar stuff that I use often. Pull it out the cupboard when I start cooking, and shove it back when done beast to stick in dishwasher when goppy and no shelf cleaning required.

Bumblenut · 13/06/2019 20:57

easy to stick in dishwasher.

Hermano · 13/06/2019 21:03

Definitely switch to smaller bottles.

You'll waste money and also use more plastic, win win Hmm

What sort of a weird judgement was that?! Bulk buying if you have the space is a great idea

ChippyMinton · 13/06/2019 21:06

Have a mosey round TKMaxx / Homesense - take a tape measure!

Our smaller bottles of oils sit on a random pottery ‘tray’ which must have been the packing of some posh foodie gift long forgotten. Jam/honey/spreads sit on a melamine tray, sold as a sandwich tray.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 13/06/2019 22:01

I buy big bottles of olive oil and use them to refill a nice looking glass drizzle bottle which is remarkably well behaved and doesn't leave drips.

helpmum2003 · 13/06/2019 22:09

Aldi often have cheap 'tapas" bowls/plates which may do.

endofthelinefinally · 14/06/2019 10:19

Is the cupboard big enough to put a tray on the shelf? Line the tray with kitchen roll and change it regularly.
I use small trays in my fridge to group things like jars together. It makes it easier to clean the fridge out.

Hollowvictory · 14/06/2019 10:22

3 litre bottle is just too big tbh I'd get smaller 1 litre bottle.

How2Help · 15/06/2019 15:54

I’m pretty sure I have this problem, but it is the top shelf so I can’t see it and therefore I don’t actually have this problem Grin

Palaver1 · 20/06/2019 06:22

Failing this you have to wash it down each time there is a trick to pouring it out ,Or could you decant into another bottle ,

Di11y · 20/06/2019 06:55

definitely decant into posh bottle and wipe carefully each time.

Badabingbadabum · 20/06/2019 07:11

A little foil boot for the bottle. Stays attached and catches drips.

imsorryiasked · 20/06/2019 07:19

I just put the bottle of oil into a large plastic sandwich bag. That way I can pick up the bottle and bag when I want to use it, any drips stay in the bag.

stucknoue · 20/06/2019 07:24

Plastic liner works well
