Small square 'saucer' for 3 litre cooking oil bottle. Disgusting shelf!

Does anyone have a solution?

Basically, the design of the bog standard Asda bottle means that however careful one is, you're always going to get oil in under the plastic collar of the bottle when you pour it which will run down the outside of the bottle and onto the shelf underneath.

It's a small, 3 sides enclosed shelf so I need a 'just big enough' square shallow container to put the bottle in, as it shares the shelf with Olive oil, vinegars etc.

Any ideas?

Just spent 30 mins scrubbing congealed oil off the shelf!

I keep oil bottles in the lower half of a milk container. I cut the top half off with a sharp knife.
Also good for bags of sugar and flour

Genius!

How are you all disposing of used cooking oil? I don't fry food very often, but last night I fried some prawn crackers to accompany Gado Gado and now I don't know what to do with the oil.

Not enough to take to recycling station ....

Leave bottle on the draining board until you have finished cooking/eating, then wipe with a soapy cloth and put away.

We dispose of a little oil by pouring into a couple of layers of kitchen towel and putting in the food waste. More than a little goes into an old 3l oil bottle, kept in the garage, then taken down the recycling centre when there is a bit in there.

What about a tile? Very easy to wipe down and you can pick up samples very cheaply.

Ikea do square ceramic trays for candles. I use terracotta plant pot trays to stand the salt and pepper mills on in the cupboard, maybe look in the plant pot section too.

I solved this at the other end. You can buy oil pourer tops that stick in the neck of the bottle and stop drips. Wilko or Amazon have them.

I buy 5 litres of oil at a time and decant into glass or ceramic bottles that have the non drip drizzle pourers. These can be washed in hot soapy water or put in the dishwasher. I also find it’s easier to pour from the smaller bottles.

Hiw about one of those thin, plastic trays for carrying cups of tea from the kitchen into the living room on? You might fit a couple of drippy bottles on it?

I'm tickled by how many people have lidless tupperware that comes in useful - glad it's not just me!

I have this and it's brilliant. Just decant oil into it. I keep the big oil bottle in the pantry cupboard and wipe it before putting it away.

Can't do click link sorry.

"I just put the bottle of oil into a large plastic sandwich bag. That way I can pick up the bottle and bag when I want to use it, any drips stay in the bag."

I do this with a bottle of gravy browning as I am paranoid that any drips will stain my cupboard. Has worked well for a long time, I've never changed the bag so I don't feel too guilty for using plastic in this case.
