Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes and energy-levels!

Please note that, athough Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Cagliostro · 25/05/2019 09:23

Morning all. I am glad it’s half term, we have been struggling to get much work done this week so at least we can have a break from home ed now. Maybe focus on a few house things.

I tried some taping yesterday, you know like the athletes use, I found out it can be good for joint pain etc. Actually did help a bit. But now I have to take my arm one off and that’s gonna hurt 😳😂

Gym this morning I think, since DH is taking the Caglets to ballroom anyway and I’m feeling all stiff and horrible, hoping it’ll help as long as I take it a bit easy.

TooStressyTooMessy · 25/05/2019 10:48

Morning all.

Can’t beat leftover pizza for breakfast Hills Smile.

Busy day here too. Waiting for my parents to arrive. I have half an hour. Morning routine done. Kids watching telly. Going to attempt some kind of power half hour.

Catch you all later.

Yes I keep seeing things on fb about summer hols approaching, mostly in US I think! Crazy we have weeks left. But a break first.

More phone calls to make today, including DH as he’s been given two separate apps in the same hospital (different depts) at exactly the same time on Friday 🤦‍♀️

But in the meantime I have Netflix, Wensleydale and grapes :o

Shadycorner · 25/05/2019 11:59

More cheese Gromit! Grin
Our UK supply is just coming to an end (sniff). We did enjoy it! Smile

Must stop Mnsnetting now 'cos DH is getting impatient. He had slightly pursed lips on the drive over because we were off schedule. And now (being one of those very objective focused people that we all aspire to be) he is anxious about being off schedule re: mowing. No chasing of butterflies allowed Smile

What is it about men and grass cutting eh?

OP posts:
foxessocks · 25/05/2019 13:03

sc dh has literally just finished mowing the lawn and is looking very smug Grin

Cagliostro · 25/05/2019 13:45

I must get DH to mow ours! It’s getting jungly already.

Realised we can’t really make the phone calls today because weekend. And then BH Monday. Bugger.

I’m having such epic chocolate cravings 😑

Cagliostro · 25/05/2019 16:54

Quiet here today!

I did the gym. Was a bit worried it would be too difficult having had the pain flare but it was fine.

Need to update my food/activity diary too. Think this is the longest I’ve managed (will be 5 weeks tomorrow) but I’ve lapsed a bit the last few days so now have some difficulty remembering which defeats the point.

Honu · 25/05/2019 17:01

Hi all. Have been unable to log in for ages as this login with email address Mumsnet thing doesn't seem to work with Internet Explorer and I am having to use a much less convenient machine with Chrome. This is a pita.

What I wanted to say, should anyone remember asking about this, is that when you are told your email server is nearly full and you have dutifully sorted out your inbox and emptied your trash, the one thing nobody mentioned is to empty your SENT files. I have been caught by this before!

I have been ill, operated on, and am now getting better. My house has spent the last year deteriorating into chaos and I have dragged out my Flyhelper app and set it up to start again, putting all the medication and exercises into my daily routines. I never thought I'd say this but it is so good to be able to do at least some of my housework instead of watching others do it not in the way I would want. Control freak? Moi?

I seem to remember someone ( danigrace ?) posting that by doing just Flylady including the 15mins her house turned round. I shall be trying this and it had better be true!

Thank you for keeping me in touch for the past year.

Shadycorner · 25/05/2019 18:21

Yay Honu is that you? Smile. How stonkingly lovely to "see" you!!! Grin.

I'm really sorry that you've been ill though. Gosh that must have been hard having an op etc when you are in a caring role. Tired before you go in, I imagine, and no proper time to recuperate afterwards. Do please take it as steady as possible. Flowers

I was the same when I had my op a while back, found it very difficult watching people "help". Didn't mind others cooking so much (!) but I like my washing and folding done in a particular way, so totally "get" what you mean!

That's a great tip about e-mail clutter - thanks - and yes I must get back to the Danigrace regime! Flying all over the place atm!

Well done going to the gym Cag Star you are really "moving in May" in dedicated fashion!

Waves to Foxes and to everyone else!

TooStressyTooMessy · 25/05/2019 20:55

I am picturing myself wearing lots of medals and badges and rocking up for a spa day now Grin.

Hi Honu Smile.

Yes, it will very soon be the school summer holidays for us really as I think that last half term flies by. It’s half term next week for us.

Your DD’s exams sound so stressful SC Sad.

Have managed first day with my parents. DD2 just gone to sleep now. DD1 still awake but hoping she will go to bed soon? She doesn’t need to wake up very early tomorrow so it doesn’t really matter.

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/05/2019 21:17

stressy Grin
Glad parents visits going well

Dd2 has u.s friend online who broke up for summer on Friday!Shock

Lisette1940 · 25/05/2019 21:37

We took a family day today. No zone cleaning done so on to the next zone tomorrow Grin

Got lots of school, tax admin done, shopped at Asda, watched movie. Tomorrow pick up school uniform bits and pieces for next year. It's foot to the pedal til early July here - no half term.
