Just moved house, leaving my amazing slimline Miele behind and inheriting the vendor’s Bosch (“the catch is broken but it works fine”)

It doesn’t work fine until we’ve wedged a chair and box up to it, I have a newborn, two other children, and five other people for dinner next week.

So if my finger wandered over “buy now” on a night feed tonight, what should I go for? I love the cutlery tray of the Miele and notice the Bosch has one too. I’d also had 9 years service from the Miele. What else would be recommended?

This thread is old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for up-to-date advice on choosing a new appliance, we’ve recently refreshed our best dishwasher guide with plenty of high-quality, Mumsnetter-approved models, including Bosch and Miele. We hope it’s helpful Smile

I replaced my elderly dishwasher this year with an AEG - special offer with discount, free installation etc. It was between that one and a Bosch, I think.

It has a tray and the door opens ten mins before the end of the cycle. Lots of other features but they're the ones that my old one didn't have and which I appreciate now.

Meile always.

Nanasueathome · 22/12/2018 08:06

Miele
All of my white goods are Miele and they are the best
Previously had Hotpoint and all broke down in very short space of time
Miele are more or less guaranteed spares/repairs for appliances up to 20 years old
Currently there’s a 2 year guarantee with Miele and also cash back in certain models

Miele. For everything.
But I do have the teeniest niggle in the back of my mind that Bosch makes the dishwashers......

Notwiththeseknees · 22/12/2018 08:13

That should be makes the better dishwashers....

bonzo77 · 22/12/2018 08:17

If you can afford miele, get one. Even their cheapest model would be better than a top of the range Bosch.

The cutlery trays are a PITA, get one with a basket. Much easier to load and empty, gets the cutlery cleaner and you get more height in the upper rack. We switched from one with a basket to one with a tray a few years ago and it has definitely been a mistake, we can't get pans or tall glasses in the upper rack unless we lower it, if we do that we can't put our dinner plates in the bottom rack.

We just replaced our exhausted 12 year old Miele dishwasher with a Bosch. Only because we couldn't quite stretch to a new Miele.

The Bosch is good, but DH and I had a 'discussion' about whether we needed the cutlery tray...and we ended up with a basket (his choice Hmm). I miss the cutlery tray...

Maybe we’ve just been lucky but we have an indesit one that cost £200 from John Lewis 8 years ago and never had any problems with it. Use it 3 times a day everyday, large family etc. It’s been brilliant.

sm40 · 22/12/2018 08:43

We've just got a Bosch with drawer rather basket. Miss the basket as top deck smaller. But more space on bottom deck. And also not so easy to unpack. But 2 weeks in its cleaning well.

OnceUponAGiraffe · 22/12/2018 11:17

I love the cutlery tray. Much better use of space, and you can lower the top tray to have more space if you need it.

Consensus seems to be stretch to the Miele, which was my reaction. Going to see if we can fix this one with a £20 catch first before I get click happy...

Thank you

Miele is excellent (mine lasted 12 years with large family) but a pain to get fixed by anyone except for approved Miele customer services once things start going wrong.
Bosch (the dearer ones) are very good and appaearantly much easier to fix.
So is Siemens (our current one off Gumtree).
If you look at cheap ones, below appear the best ones according to an appliance repair person I know.

Celebelly · 22/12/2018 11:27

We love our Bosch, but def get one with cutlery drawer. It's a revelation! Our old (v old and still working now we rent our old house out!) Bosch just had one of the baskets and it was way more faff to load. The drawer/tray is so good.

Cynderella · 22/12/2018 15:45

We have a Miele washing machine but our current dishwasher is AEG. Last one was a Siemens and it lasted 22 years - used more than once a day with seven of us for years and daily the rest of the time. I think dishwashers are more reliable than washing machines.

ive got a bosch with a cutlery tray rather than basket and love it
