How/ where do you store your suitcases?

Hello,

I'd like to have ideas on how/ where to store our suitcases. They are taking a lot of much needed space in our house and I can't figure out an efficient way to store them. We have loads, small ones inside big ones, etc. so the question is where/ how to store the big ones really.

I'd love to know how you do that at home, for inspiration.

Thanks

PS: they are used once a year.

When we moved into our (rented) property in Dubai. I found 4 really good quality Tumi suitcases in the loft. At some point tenants.left without them which is really bizarre in an expat location.

Learn to travel light ! What on earth to do you do once a year which requires "loads of suitcases" ?? We travel extensively overseas every year and we have one soft bag each. Think about simplifying your travel requirements and cut down on all those cases .

I can't store mine in the loft. Wasps come through the light fittings on my bathroom ceiling trying to get out and I have to leave the bathroom window open and coax them out. They get in the eves of the roof, get lost in the attic, and I am terrified of them.
So I have to keep suitcases in the cupboards above my wardrobes Shock

HotInWinter · 20/11/2018 05:50

We dont have a loft.
Ours are stacked inside each other in the wardrobe in the play room. Except for the biggest which lives behind the door in the play room..... Used frequently.

Nice find Habibi

It would be a very large suitcase which didn't fit in a wardrobe, I'd have thought.

We have a large loft hatch that had gold away steps attached. Our loft also has a light, so suitcases are kept up there.

We see our suitcases every school holiday and Donets weekend Blush we like to travel.

Clankboing · 20/11/2018 06:38

The garage (which is built into the house so dry). I keep my summer clothes in them in winter and vice versa.

CottonSock · 20/11/2018 11:35

My lift hatch has a wardrobe below it so I can't fit anything rigid up there. Luckily I have a garage

GiantKitten · 20/11/2018 16:43

Loving the typos in this thread. I wish we had a lift hatch and gold away steps Grin

Hi all!
I have to admit to you all that I probably have a phobia of small insects and especially spiders...to the point where after I went to sleep last night -having decided to have a look at the loft ASAP-...I started imagining myself opening the latch and countless spiders and other critters jumping out at me Blush which made me decide against ever putting our suitcases there in case some of these beasties decide to squat inside... The same reason why I am against putting them inside the garage which, for the time being is just a jumble of mess consisting of discarded old furniture, etc... And yes, the suitcases don't fit inside any of the built-in wardrobes which are not very functional I must admit :( And yes I don't know how to travel light; I do for myself but can't for DC so that's it...

Oops. Fat fingers Blush

ApolloandDaphne · 21/11/2018 05:53

You also have a garage and you don't put them there. How strange. Ours live in the attic space we have in the garage. Never seen a beastie in them ever.

Oh FGS this thread is just a thread about nothing.

"Poor me I have nowhere to keep my suitcases. I'm just going to have to have them lying around our tiny house. They're such an eyesore!
Don't expect me to put them in my loft or in my garage."

OP - put your suitcases in your loft or in your garage. Or don't - in which case you're going to have to have them lying around. But it really doesn't need so many Sad faces

AtSea1979 · 21/11/2018 07:28

Ours are like Russian dolls stacked inside each other. Then on top of my triple wardrobe. There’s extra ones in the loft with the Xmas decs etc and a big bag full of inflatables etc in the understairs cupboard.

BackforGood · 22/11/2018 00:50

I am a bit inclined to agree with User.

You have a house, with a garage and a loft, yet you refuse to use them to store things in. Hmm Not really sure anyone here can help you, tbh.

SakuraM · 22/11/2018 20:23

Hello all,

My garage is FULL and disorganised and hasn't been konmaried since we moved in here. So, even if I wanted to store the suitcases there, which I don't want to do, it wouldn't have been possible.

My loft, as I said, is tiny, and although I can and will use it in future to store "things" if possible, I won't use it to store my suitcases.

There is a possibility part of the suitcases might fit under one bed if it is moved a little, not sure though. I think this is the only feasible "solution" right now.

Thank you all for your suggestions, I really wish I could put them inside wardrobes or on top of them, as I like these storage solutions best.

Cheers! Flowers

Mine is slightly smaller than DHs so all holiday stuff goes in mine (eg bikinis, shorts, beach towels) and then mine inside of DHs

This then sits in the bottom of my wardrobe (full hanging height) with shorter tops/dresses hanging above

GoldenPomBearBadge · 23/11/2018 23:44

On top of the wardrobe in our room with the Christmas presents in.

MaggieFS · 23/11/2018 23:59

Loft for the big ones and the small ones which get used more regularly go into the spare bed under bed storage.

@PickAChew that hatch looks the spitting image of the hatch in my Granny's farmhouse from when I was a kid. I never understood how anyone would get through it, plus there was no ladder built I which I couldn't compute. Happy memories!

mm8884448838 · 24/11/2018 10:01

Regularly used cabin suitcases are in the cupboard on the landing, the fairly regularly used medium sized one is inside the larger matching one, on top of the wardrobe in the spare room and the other ones are bin bag wrapped in the attic.

I've never seen spiders up in the attic either. We plastic wrap more because of the skin irritating factor of the loft insulation particles. It's not great to breathe in either.

UPDATE

Hello Everyone!

I managed to put three sets of suitcases under 2 beds! Yay! It wasn't easy as I had to lift up the beds while pushing the suitcases under there but it's worth it! I am left with two old suitcases with stuff inside that I need to sort before putting them (suitcases) in the garage as we don't use them. This way I won't have any suitcase lying around. What a relief!

Thanks everyone for inspiring me.
