How often do you wash...

How often do you wash your jeans?
I wash mine after wearing them 2-3 times. My partner washed his jeans maybe once a month. Upon googling it, I never knew he wasn't the only person to do this!

Probably about 3 wears or when they get saggy knees in them.

I wash them after 4 or 5 wears, unless for some reason they are positively mucky. I am with those who think we absurdly over do washing these days & that not only wastes resources but wears out clothes too quickly and puts too much in the way of contaminents into the environment. (if you disagree then answer me this - how often do you get your coats cleaned? If not after every time you wear them then why not?)
However, DD is of a different opinion and puts hers in laundry basket after about half a day of wear (given as she changes her clothes at least twice a day.....). I am not sure if she realises I take them out and put them back in her room....

Well my coat isn't close up with my fanny so tends not to smell like my jeans would Grin

I wash mine pretty much after every wear, but that's because I have a nearly two year old and they will have some combination of porridge/sand/paint/dribble/playdough on them. (At least we are past the milk sick ups stage.)

Pre DD, probably weekly or more often in hot weather

The more I learn about how our choices affect the environment, the more I do find it hard to listen to people who insist that they have to wash towels/sheets/jeans/whatever every single time they're used.

I'm starting to hear it in the same way that I hear, 'I choose not to recycle,' ie. yes, we all know it is 'your right' but ultimately these choices affect the planet and therefore it's probable that other people will have an opinion on it. That's not the same as judging.

And yes, your tiny bit of eco-laundry detergent and whatever won't melt the ice caps, but there is a massive collective responsibility on so many environmental issues that future generations will hold us responsible for.

I'm looking for ways to improve all the time - I know as a family we're not as 'green' as we could be, but nor am I daft enough to insist on regularly doing something wasteful and pointless just because I can.

Derfel I x-posted with you. Totally different with the evidence of various 2-year old's activities on them Grin

Good quality raw denim isn’t really meant to be washed at all.

Mine get washed when they smell, or have obvious dirt (mud, general baby-yuck, spilled food).

To posters suggesting jeans get dirty ‘pressed against your fanny’, may I suggest knickers?! Wink

I didn't say they were dirty. I said they would smell.

Thanks for the advice, but I do wear knickers

They actually smell? Barring any medical/known reason for it, if my jeans smelled after a few hours wear, I'd probably think I needed to wash my body more often than my jeans to be honest!

Must be a medical condition then. I shower every morning, then don some clean clothes. I thought it was normal, given vaginas do smell, but I will contact my GP on Monday.

28holid I wasn’t trying to be a twat, sorry. I’ve also stopped wearing skinnies, so I guess I’m maybe used to a bit more breathing room. I don’t think you need a GP unless things are unusual for you.

Well I don't wash my jeans very often and I can assure you they do not smell. If you shower every day and wear clean knickers every day (I do both) why would your jeans smell?

Just a ridiculous excuse for washing them all the time

Thanks. I feel totally assured that your jeans do not smell. However, I was talking about my jeans.

It's hardly ridiculous to wash something because it smells. I consider that to be a very good reason.

My jeans would smell if not washed every 2 wears (maximum). I'm sure other people's don't, or. maybe they have a different tolerance for smells, whatever.
Shockingly, people are different and have different levels of sweatiness etc.

Perhaps the fashion for skinny jeans means more frequent washing?
Anyway, why would anyone want to wear skinny jeans in this weather?

None of my clothes last more than a wear as I also have a toddler in my life.

Pre toddler I would either manage 5 + wears or more likely drop my dinner down them on wear 1. If they were getting big due to weight loss I would wash/dry more often as newly washed stayed up but worn more than twice tended to escape!

I wash them every 5 or 6 wears or so but I only wear them out then change when I get in so I don't wear them for long periods at a time. If I wear them on a night out I'll put them in the wash.
If I have my period I wash more often.

I wash them when they look dirty or smell. Probably about every 10 wears. DH washes his every wear, drives me crazy! His jeans fall apart and I'm sure that's why.

"'I choose not to recycle,' ie. yes, we all know it is 'your right' "

It's not really your right not to recycle if your council tells you you have to.
