And mayonnaise, mustard, Branston pickle.

We have a new fridge but I know my husband will fill it with 84 jars and bottles of crap.

Give me science!

There are all hermetically sealed under aseptic (bug free) conditions. Once opened you allow microorganisms to enter. Yes, especially ketchup is full of sugar vinegar etc but yeasts and moulds (not usually bacteria) can reproduce under these conditions(like you'd see in jam) and their preferred temperatures for doing so are around 20-22 degrees C. Refrigeration slows their growth.

Yes all of those- ketchup, mayo, mustard, salad cream etc

Yes we have a drawer in our fridge for condiments.

I do. They're not full of preservatives like they were when I was a child in the 70s.

And room temp ketchup just smells odd.

I'd have a lot more room in my fridge if I didn't have the 101 jars and bottles in there.

Mayo, salad cream and jam go in the fridge. Ketchup and brown sauce in the cupboard.

Cold ketchup is vile and a bottle rarely lasts more than a week anyway.
