Satisfying things about keeping house

andalittlebitofpixiedust · 20/07/2018 20:08

Tell me the satisfying things about home making, keeping house, cleaning, tidying, etc.

I usually see it as just a chore, or something I don't quite have time for, but I know I can find truly positive things that make me happy about a job well done. Things to motivate me.

So, I LOVE getting into a bed with clean sheets. LOVE IT.

I really love the feeling of everything being in the right place, and knowing where to find things.

I like the feeling of making things nice for my children. doesn't happen often

Oh, folding knickers and boxers into neat little parcels, no question!!

Vitalogy · 20/07/2018 20:12

Yes, the clean sheets one it good.

I like hanging white towels out on a sunny & breezy day.

That's about it re housework Grin

1moreRep · 20/07/2018 20:13

tidying the children's rooms and my underwear draw - i put the knickers in the bra cup so it's pretty.

cleaning the settee

wiping the skirting boards

JaneJeffer · 20/07/2018 20:15

Nothing. It's soul destroying.

TyrionsNextWife · 20/07/2018 20:16

Freshly hoovered carpets and clean bedsheets are two of the best things in the world Grin

TheProvincialLady · 20/07/2018 20:16

Coming downstairs in the morning and it’s all tidy and clean and lovely. Lasts until anyone else in the family is up.

Lemontwist · 20/07/2018 20:17

I'm very hit and miss with housework, generally struggling to keep on top of things with kids and fill time work. Am currently on mat leave awaiting DC3 and feel so much more on top of things but won't last with the kids having just broken up for summer.
The house always feels so much calmer and more relaxing when it's tidy. I love not tripping over piles of clean washing waiting to go away.
I just enjoy being at home more when it's tidy. And yes to clean sheets. It is one of life's simple pleasures!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/07/2018 20:18

Now my wardrobe is all organised by items, and each item organised by colour, I keep opening it and just looking at its lovely rainbow gorgeousness.

Once a week I do a big ‘put away’ instead of cleaning- just go round the house and put everything away. Straighten up, put back in rooms, remove the piles of ‘stuff’, before doing the cleaning the next day. It really really makes a huge difference to how the house looks.

andalittlebitofpixiedust · 20/07/2018 20:19

I hear you, Jane but play along.

Tidying the kids rooms and setting their beds nicely always makes me happy - particularly in the winter for some reason 🤔

And giving the playroom a good scrub and setting up new play invitations (once every blue moon 🙈)

That’s about it
I hate the feeling of clean sheets

tigercub50 · 20/07/2018 20:20

Coming home to find that DH has done the dishwasher.
Another vote for fresh crisp sheets.
Having a really ruthless sort out, particularly clothes.
Admiring the loo when DD’s cleaned it as she does a brilliant job!

FaFoutis · 20/07/2018 20:22

My DH seems to enjoy mopping the floor. He does it at least three times a week while everything else goes to shit.

SnowOnTheSeine · 20/07/2018 20:23

I love having tidy drawers. Not great atm must have another tidy.

I love seeing an uncluttered floor. Makes the room so much more relaxing.

Yogagirl123 · 20/07/2018 20:24

Yes I love a clean bed, I change it every week, but if I was a millionaire I would have a clean bed EVERY day! 🤩

NotAnotherHeffalump · 20/07/2018 20:39

onlybababiss how can you hate the feeling of clean sheets?! Surely that's a typo and you meant to type "love" instead Grin

The fresh smell of a just cleaned bathroom.

An empty wash basket.

Gutting out anything. I LOVE throwing useless stuff out. My husband keeps everything.

I do try to get into a frame of mind that goes something like..."lots of dirty clothes because my house is full of people that I love, what a blessing!.....oh look at their little handprints EVERYWHERE how....sweet...ah, husband still can't put pants and socks in the wash basket and is using the floordrobe approach again ....well a positive way to look at that is that....eh.....we can afford clothes Hmm"

If i don't do this I can really get quite angry when cleaning. So I try some PMA and get stuck in.

PlatypusPie · 20/07/2018 20:45

Giving the granite worktops a much needed buff and admiring how shiny they are !

andalittlebitofpixiedust · 20/07/2018 20:45

Ah, see I have become so ground down accepting of the fact that none of them can apparently pick up a towel that I no longer get angry (usually) but I have become sort of numb to it and a bit avoidant. I've been really ill in the past and not able to look after things as I'd like to, so I'm trying to just take a bit of satisfaction in it all. A bit.

Mmm, I want to make my kids beds all nice now but they are in them

pallisers · 20/07/2018 21:03

Cleaning out the fridge (or the cleaners cleaning out the fridge) - it feels like a fresh start.

I love when my kitchen is clean, nothing on the countertops or island but a vase of flowers.

NotAnotherHeffalump · 20/07/2018 21:21

I aspire to take more satisfaction in it....I'm getting there!

All the toys put away, or just rooms looking lovely and neat and tidy. It is nice having a tidy house.

Clevs · 20/07/2018 21:23

Freshly hoovered & mopped floors so you don't get bits stuck to your feet.

Clean sheets.

Admiring shiny taps in the shower after cleaning the bathroom.

andalittlebitofpixiedust · 20/07/2018 21:24

I do LOVE having a proper clear out. Sadly it takes so long and takes so much energy that it doesn't happen often. We are moving soon and I just want to enjoy ditching things we don't want, putting things in their homes and making it all nice. :)

Like you, I love getting into a fresh, clean bed. I change my bedding every 3rd day. I love to see washing hanging on the line to dry. I like to have a spotlessly clean toilet (I clean it a few times each day), I have to have clean dishcloths, towels and teatowels every day (the dishcloths are changed a few times every day)

JiltedJohnsJulie · 20/07/2018 21:50

I’m pretty rubbish at keeping house if I’m honest but I do like going into a clean kitchen to cook and opening a clean fridge.

I paid for the oven to be cleaned last year and got a bit over excited at how clean it was Blush

OnlyBaBaBiss · 20/07/2018 23:43

NotAnotherHeffalump ha no I actually don’t like it
It’s all cold and stiff and unfamiliar
I like my bedding a bit more worn in and smelling like sweaty milky babies
I may be a bit gross Grin
