Getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge: Part 4

StealthNinjaMum · 06/07/2018 14:14

And the decluttering continues…

For 3,000 posts we have been slowly transforming our homes from hovels to palaces.

We’re not quite there yet some of us are further than others but we won’t give up until we have a decluttered existence.

We just get rid of one thing a day and report back to showoff for support and to be told off when we’re naughty and bring more clutter back into our homes, gardens, sheds, garages.

As ever newbies are welcome to join us.

Have put a pile of printing in my bag to give to best friend tomorrow and got rid of the box of hoodies from my car boot.
I got rid of a couple of t-shirts over the weekend as they were holey or stretched.
Day off on Wednesday and Friday this week as working on Saturday. I hope to go up into the loft and make a start on that as I need to put the kids sledges away.

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/07/2018 00:27

Two more eye creams used up all over my face.
Someone wants to buy my 13 PS2 games, but I know her so I'm going to give them to her - not sure if they all work perfectly although they probably do ( I was going to tell the buyer in advance that I'd refund any that don't work).

Nofilter · 17/07/2018 01:52

Thanks stealth that's good to know! It's true it's a process this decluttering it's clearing my mind in so many things!

It's made me really think through certain aspects and see whether I really need to do certain things - like unnecessary calls checking on my businesses - complicated health ideas - beauty fads that sort of thing, it's so much easier to strip back and simplify..

I want to check out some of those minimalism videos someone mentioned on the thread a while back at some point...

DD only just gone to sleep she has a temp zzzzzz

Tidy2018 · 17/07/2018 06:36

Yesterday's eventual tally for recycling was a year of magazines from the garage, and some more cleaned paviers.

Also managed three loads of bedding, which dried quickly once the sun csme out. Washed the bathroom floor. Not bad in the end.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 17/07/2018 07:58

Today I'm donating a load of ds clothes to charity. He's starting 6th form and has grown so all old uniform has to go.

Decluttering does make you think about non physical clutter-I used to listen to 'the minimalists podcast' to get in the mood to simplify life.

StealthNinjaMum · 17/07/2018 10:05

I have put a couple of things in the charity shop pile today. One is a curtain tieback that I bought years ago and it didn't seem right with the curtain I wanted it for. The other is an apron someone bought dh for Christmas which says something like 'sprouts are not just for Christmas' with a cute sprout on it. I am dithering about chucking it - even though dh is happy with it going - because it was either bought by dm or mil who might come here one Christmas and notice it not being worn.

Today I was out before 7 (this never happens) doing a shop at Tesco and putting the dishwasher / washing machine on wanting to have a tidier house before dds wake up. Dd2 is still in bed. I feel shattered and will probably go to bed before dds tonight!

Stealth I love early morning supermarket runs! Makes me feel very virtuous!!!Halo

Jumping back on the thread yet again. I’ve had a really unproductive week since I last posted. I did loads on Monday of last week then spent Tuesday lazing around binge watching box sets - I blame the heat! I had some bits to do at the new house so that was Wednesday taken up. I’d just got there on Thursday when I had a call from DD’s nursery to say she was unwell so I had to collect her. She seems to have had a nasty virus so I’ve hardly been able to put her down since then. She hasn’t slept much at all and then DS had a stomach bug. DS has been able to go back to school today and DD seems a bit more like her usual self so hopefully I can get back on things again.

Very little housework has been done because DH has also been working some crazy hours so I’ve had a bit of a tidy up this morning and had a tesco’s delivery. I am going to have a sort out of the sideboard drawers today and I might try and sort out the kitchen junk drawer.

Nofilter I’ve been using a bullet journal on and off for a couple of years now. Mine is not pretty like the ones you see online but it is useful. I resisted the temptation to buy the pretty planner and just use a cheap notebook. That works better for me because I can not use it for ages and then just start on a new page without feeling like I’ve made a mess of it. I find something with a set layout doesn’t work for me because if I don’t fill it in regularly or properly I lose interest and end up throwing it away! When I use my journal properly and regularly I find that I’m much more organised and on top of life admin.

Didn’t mean to write such an epic post. Off to do some decluttering!

Gibble1 · 17/07/2018 14:14

I have an unexpected annual leave day so I’m going in the attic. MiL is coming to help when she’s picked up DS from school. I will update later.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 17/07/2018 14:33

Oooh-the attic! That's brave Gibble...

I think about my attic-well, actually eaves-when I've done more in the house proper.

The garage is like another universe-I'll do that after the eaves.

I'm in for the long haul, I think.

YourHandInMyHand · 17/07/2018 15:15

Well today I've literally done nothing. I feel exhausted! I have been organised enough though to use 2 prebought birthday cards and gift bags for my nephew's birthdays. Normally I forget I already have them in the house and buy more. Hmm

Yesterday I sold and got out of the house a bag of uniform, 5 kids books, 3 fiction books, and a toy set. So a little less clutter and a few more pennies.

I need to tackle my wardrobe but it will be quite a job.
I shall get back on the clear out tomorrow. Grin

UnderTheOakTree · 17/07/2018 15:34

I think I've run out of decluttering mojo Confused.
I feel like I've got rid of so much & yet the house still seems overflowing...

Any ideas, oh decluttering ones?

Gibble1 · 17/07/2018 16:38

Wow- i’m just having a quick coffee break but so far....
Have sold: camping stove and 4 gas bottles, 4 man dome tent, 2 self inflating mats (£25) and a camping kettle and set of pans (£8).
MiL has taken a car rammed full to the tip- loads of old duvets and pillows, an old bed that was bought for DD and DH refused to use 😬 so out it in the loft 🙄. Loads more camping stuff and other treasures have been listed but not sold yet.
Dspaniel ate my muffin and while I chased him Dlab ate my sandwich. Bugger chops the pair of them 🙄😂 worked together as a tag team!

SandAndSea · 17/07/2018 16:45

@Gibble1 - Hahahaa! Love the sound of your dogs! Clever things! Grin

@UnderTheOakTree - How about setting a timer for 5 minutes? ... Aannndddd, GO!!!!!

Gibble1 · 17/07/2018 16:49

@undertheoaktree I second the timer. Grab a bag and run around picking up anything that is obviously rubbish. Make coffee first and then drink it when you’re done.

Gibble1 · 17/07/2018 18:29

6 tins of paint listed for free to collector. 4 tins put aside to decorate kitchen, bathroom, lounge and our bedroom. 3 rolls of wall paper dig out of loft to decorate lounge.

StealthNinjaMum · 17/07/2018 21:19

A live update.

Dh is in his pants.

He has no idea I'm typing this.

OP posts:
StealthNinjaMum · 17/07/2018 21:20

He is trying on shirts.

OP posts:
StealthNinjaMum · 17/07/2018 21:26

5 white shirts. Two seem too yellow for him. One has a dirty collar. All are really old.

OP posts:
StealthNinjaMum · 17/07/2018 21:31

3 shirts are in a pile. 2 are yellow and one has a crumpled collar. He is keeping three but I am going to try to not get the stain out of one of them. It might still go.

Live update over.

Hmm sorry that was not as interesting as a parking thread.

Pixie2015 · 17/07/2018 21:32

Love this thread - got back from holidays and started sorting out - sunday got rid 2 bags of children’s socks / yesterday school uniform bagged up - today bath mats and boxes gone - however have done a bit of sale shopping but likely to send some bits back

UnderTheOakTree · 17/07/2018 22:09

Thankyou for the timer tip for tidying up - it worked!

Have been through dvd cupboard & sifted out a few... just need to persuade the kids to do the same, as if I do it, guaranteed that will be THE film they want to watch!!!

Nofilter · 17/07/2018 22:21

I live the live update!! Hehe stealth 1 DH 0

I'm ill and DD I'll it's so not good yukkkk!

Gibble1 · 17/07/2018 22:41

Love the live update!
Have ended up digging 12 tins of paint out of the loft.
Masses of stuff listed on Facebook. Have sold the tent etc and it’s been collected. A shower rail has just been asked for for collection on Friday.
I have asked DH if we can try to get the lounge decorated ASAP- that will clear some more clutter. The floor in the loft is now walkable on and the bonus is that I can now actually feel that DH and I WILL be able to lift out the copper water tank that is up there- kerching!

SandAndSea · 17/07/2018 22:54

Can't believe I missed a live update!!! Lucky this isn't a parking thread or we'd have needed a diagram!
