Getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge: Part 4

And the decluttering continues…

For 3,000 posts we have been slowly transforming our homes from hovels to palaces.

We’re not quite there yet some of us are further than others but we won’t give up until we have a decluttered existence.

We just get rid of one thing a day and report back to showoff for support and to be told off when we’re naughty and bring more clutter back into our homes, gardens, sheds, garages.

As ever newbies are welcome to join us.

I've got cleaners coming today so have been blitzing clearing a path for them . It will be nice not to have to clean the bathroom and floors for once and gives me time to do the extras I don't often get round to - might even clean the oven! Grin

I'm also planning a charity shop run, fridge clean out and a hair dye today. So, quite a few bits going out.

gassylady · 31/08/2018 11:28

Stealth the eight bags was old shredded documents, some work paperwork, magazines and catalogues. Our paper recycling is in — extremely thin— plastic bags so they can’t be too heavy. Nothing sorted yesterday but will gather up a few pairs of shoes from the hall for the collection point in Clark’s later

SandAndSea · 31/08/2018 18:37

I've done hours of cleaning today - absolutely loads. The house is transformed compared to earlier in the week. The cleaners didn't do as much as I'd hoped but it all helps. I'm still doing laundry - stripping beds etc but it's all coming along nicely.

StealthNinjaMum · 31/08/2018 19:06

How satisfying gassy I love getting rid of paper.

Not a great day. I've been out most of the day so other than getting rid of a vest with holes, socks with holes and trousers that don't fit dd2 I've not had time to do anything.

Just remembered I have been decluttering vodka. Not sure if I mentioned on one of these threads that ages ago I had an afternoon sampling the booze cupboard to check if 15 year old booze was still drinkable (most was).

Anyway I still have four bottles of vodka that are about 20 years old. Today I have been trying to clean paint off some of dd2s clothes. The paint is ground in and I have tried other things so I thought I'd try alcohol. There seems to be slight haze around the original mark so I think I have lightened it a bit so not too successful really. I'll probably have to chuck out the vodka and the clothes but I thought it would be worth a try.

About ten days ago I mentioned some glasses. I took loads to a charity shop and threw the empty boxes away. There were three left that were dh's and I have only got round to asking him whether I can chuck them out. He agreed they were vile (swirly crystal) and they are in the charity shop pile.

Have also just advertised a few bits on Facebook to sell.

I have been away on holiday. Back now and back on the decluttering mission.

Baby mobile been collected today (sold on FB) and another small bag for the charity shop of clothes and slippers that don't fit the kids. Also a small bag of nice clothes to pass on to a friend.

Boom, back in the zone!

gassylady · 01/09/2018 19:12

An ornament for charity bag today. I’m finding this thread so useful in reminding me of what I have done. Thought I’d done nothing yesterday but then yay I did take those shoes with us for recycling Grin

ememem84 · 01/09/2018 19:55

Hi all. Can I jump back in?

I was on this thread a while back. Then fell off.

We have now moved from our apartment. Sold it and are now staying with dparents before we move to our new place. Hopefully on/around 5 oct.

We decluttered a lot. We brought all our clothes toiletries etc here to dparents. All of ds’ things (he’s 11 months). And catface and her stuff.

Everything else went into storage.

Today I’ve found two items for charity shop bag, have listed another two things on eBay and have ditched a candle jar, two minging old make up brushes and some old emery boards.

SandAndSea · 01/09/2018 20:34

Today: Took a sack to the charity shop. Am also decluttering a pair of long, fluffy, tatty socks, 3 pairs of knickers and a small bottle.

SandAndSea · 01/09/2018 23:40

... And 3 tops (far worse in the light than I realised - had to go for rags), a pair of shorts and another pair of socks.

SandAndSea · 01/09/2018 23:44

@StealthNinjaMum - How about having a party to use up all that vodka? Maybe you could make a big fruit cocktail for everyone to share? Glitterball Wine

StealthNinjaMum · 02/09/2018 11:30

Ha SandandSea good idea. Some kind of punch? Do you think people still drink vodka? I am wondering if our drinks cupboard is something out of the 90s 70s as we also have martini, madeira wine, and brandy. I think they have been provided by dmil ten or fifteen years ago. I have a friend who throws really good parties two years ago I snuck in some mulled wine to her xmas party, maybe I'll do that with the vodka. I know that she'll know what to do with it.

Today's question is how long does sugar last? I have a big tupperware container of sugar cubes for tea and coffee and I'm sure it's a decade old as people don't often have sugar with their drinks. I have put the cubes in a small tupperware and have created lots of space but I am wondering if I should just throw the whole thing away. I ate one and it seemed fine but I would hate to poison someone or have a friend think I was scummy for having food so old in the house.

I bought a lovely new handbag today and am donating the massive one I've using. Tonnes of receipts and bits of paper are being chucked out or shredded.

Sugar lasts forever if it doesn't get contaminated. It's a preservative in its own right. DC have discovered cake baking so it would get used plenty fast enough in our house.

15 years ago we moved away from the Peak District. I found some barely used OS Peak district maps today (feeling like an idiot, why do we still have these?!). Anyway, listed them on Ebay. 20 yrs old but I reckon someone will buy for low price.

DS outgrew some trainers & will wear brother's old shoes, so that's 1 pair net out of house. Slowly but surely...

gassylady · 02/09/2018 17:29

Mucked our youngest’s bedroom today! Several books for the charity bag and some other bits for eBay. Unexpectedly warm so have washed bedding too including a very slow to dry mattress protector.

Going to set myself a target by end of September I’m sorting out the chest of drawers in my bedroom. Some many things/clutter in and on that my pants live in a heap elsewhere Blush

lljkk · 02/09/2018 17:37

We used to be friends with a family we would swap our spare food with. If either of us went travelling or had a surfeit of courgettes or bananas, we'd pawn items off on each other. You need to ask around who you know would like your sugar cubes.

lljkk · 02/09/2018 17:37

ps: I found out some more of my ageing landranger maps have 2nd hand value on Ebay. Who knew...!

gassylady · 02/09/2018 18:21

It’s amazing what other people think is of value isn’t it, never ceases to astonish me! Usually some time after I’ve put them in the charity bag!

Used up three beauty products today. So that’s three things in the bin. Yay. Also threw away an old slither of soap.

We’re staying with dparents and this soap has been kicking around for the past 2 weeks we’ve been here. So have ditched it. Dparents are away at present so they’ll never notice.... they will notice and I’ll get a telling off when they come back

gassylady · 03/09/2018 10:16

Old fleecy top of mine couple of outgrown kids things. Going to list a couple of bits on eBay too.

StealthNinjaMum · 03/09/2018 13:13

I stealthily removed another Orchard game for the Facebook selling pile. I have also thrown out an empty keyboard box that belongs to dh. Usually I show him what I'm chucking out but it's an empty f*ing box and I am sick of them.

Unfortunately dd2 wandered into the spare room and found a picture that she likes in the charity shop pile and has moved it back. I can't wait for school to start. Despite my big charity shop run a couple of weeks there is a mountain of stuff on the bed in the spare room.
