Getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge: Part 4

StealthNinjaMum · 06/07/2018 14:14

And the decluttering continues…

For 3,000 posts we have been slowly transforming our homes from hovels to palaces.

We’re not quite there yet some of us are further than others but we won’t give up until we have a decluttered existence.

We just get rid of one thing a day and report back to showoff for support and to be told off when we’re naughty and bring more clutter back into our homes, gardens, sheds, garages.

As ever newbies are welcome to join us.

gibble good effort feels so much better when things are gone doesn't it! Ahhh dryers still sat here ended up popping out and gettking back late and made no effort to look at it going to google scrap merchants right now.....x

Betsy86 · 11/08/2018 09:10

korma woop to things going! You’ve reminded me i have a stairgate behind the sofa....

SandAndSea · 11/08/2018 13:03

Sorry, just a flying visit but I'm still going. Today's items are a big, gimmicky mug (which was a present) and a nice pair of earrings which I never wear. They're from the days when I somehow thought that dressing smart meant wearing things that weren't 'me'. (Pre-internet shopping.)

StealthNinjaMum · 12/08/2018 08:49

betsy another one here who says get rid of it. I have hung onto so much stuff thinking I would do 'something' with it and I never do.

crazy3 welcome.

nocuts that's a fantastic effort with your eBay and the rest of your decluttering.

A bad couple of days. On Friday I gave an unopened craft set to a friend and i haven't decluttered anything since. The house is a tip and the hall has become a repository for crap again. I sometimes do an update on Sunday of how many shoes the lazy bastards family have left next to the coat cupboard rather than 3 feet away inside it and today it is only two so my nagging is starting to work however dd2 and dh have brought mud in so I need to clean the carpet. I actually got up early today to put washing on and do some housework and they're all still in bed so I might do some loud hoovering now.

Tidied dressup outfit rail. 3 outfits gone.

stealth I feel your pain. My family are incapable of putting shoes away.. . And leave socks on or under the sofa.

Today so far. 3 carrier bags full of clothes, books, toys in my trolley ready to take to charity shop that haven't sold on eBay. And 6 outgrown and games listed on free site on Facebook. Including tooth fairy and shhh don't wake dad that dd1 begged for a couple of years ago and have been played less than 5 times. However we did buy 2 new ones in charity shop yesterday. Today we might sort dds books again as we got a few in charity shop yesterday.

Gibble1 · 12/08/2018 22:09

I have started decluttering the paint I got out of the loft as it’s just gathering dust on the hearth. First coat in lounge done yesterday. Sadly it lifted all the paint already on the wall so we have had to scrape it all of and then fill it to level out the crack. We have all the stuff in to decorate thankfully but really annoyingly neither of us can find the chuffing wallpaper scrapers 😬

RocketPockets · 12/08/2018 22:22

Newbie!
We are putting our flat on the market in the next couple of weeks so I need to de clutter as much as possible! We have a storage unit that has some bits in that we won't need for a while so the flat doesn't look so cluttered but we would want/need in a house. Things like winter coats, boxes of childhood 'memories', some of my sons more bulky toys that are a bit big for him, some prints for the walls etc. I LOVE the idea of one thing a day, I know I need to de clutter my dressing table and my kitchen at the very least. Our side board is BURSTING with stuff as well! Looking forward to getting started on Tuesday as I'm not home tomorrow.

StealthNinjaMum · 13/08/2018 09:21

Welcome RocketPockets. One thing a day is quite easy which is why I've kept it up. It might be really slow compared to people who just blitz through an area but it seems to work for me.

Once again I got up before dds. I have put some toys for sale on facebook and already received some interest. I sorted through one of our cuddly toy boxes and found some rags that have probably been used as toy blankets so they're in the 'rags' charity shop pile. I was wondering if dds would notice if I donated some of our many cuddly toys but I might ask them to voluntarily donate some, I wouldn't want to give away a 'favourite' even if that 'favourite' has been forgotten and is in the bottom of a storage chest.

Morning ladies!

Not really sure how to declutter right now as still unpacking boxes etc but progress being made.

I've totally unpacked all my horse stuff and have a few jobs I'd like to get our handyman to complete:

Hang rug racks
Hang a chain on my mares stable
Connect self filling water troughs

The house has a mountain of jobs that need doing so I'm going to try and make a dent in DD playroom over the next two days as my Mum took DD to our caravan for a break.

We've ended up with masses of toys from two houses all in one room it's overkill. I've ordered the Kallax system from ikea which has 8 cupboard and 8 spaces for baskets - and chose some lovely black and white striped baskets from B&Q...

TV brackets going up today - we are missing a few remotes - first world problems!

On the other hand it's been nice waking up to the horses, sheep, fresh air and peace and quiet! Although a little too quiet without DD! Hmm

WhenDoISleep · 13/08/2018 10:11

Morning all, hope everyone had a good weekend!

I regained a child and all of his camp clutter - all his washing is done and dry, just needs to be put away. I'm airing out his sleeping bag and will get that and his other camping bits which are currently scattered through the kitchen and living room into the box in the loft tomorrow.

I cracked on with the bedroom project and have fully cleared one part of the wardrobe which was being used as overflow storage for my handbag collection - I've ended up with another two bags of bits and pieces (including lots of good bags I will never use but aren't worth trying to sell) go to charity, plus a good few 'name' bags I will try to sell in the Autumn. Now most of the rubbish is cleared out and everything left is either to be sold (so needs to be moved to the conservatory for storing for a few weeks) or is to be kept, so needs relocating to the loft.

I've also manged to sort out a bag of dressing up clothes for the charity shop plus a another bag of toddler bits and pieces that can also go. I want to get all the charity bags dropped off this week, as I'm away next week and it would be great to get everything out of the house before I go.

I also managed to get rid of about 15 little 'things', silly party bag toys, empty packaging DH leaves around etc. in about 3 minutes last night while chivvying the boys at bedtime.

Just checking back in after a lovely holiday. We did come back with a couple of extra things and nothing has been decluttered for a while so I really need to get on. Already out today are some empty perfume boxes that were in a drawer, a broken hair clip and some maternity pants that I had forgotten I had and certainly do not need! We’re using up a few bits for tea from the freezer as well.

We’re out for most of the rest of the day so I don’t think I’ll get much else sorted but at least I’ve made a start.

Alloftheboys · 13/08/2018 14:34

Off on holiday tomorrow evening so a few bits have come in. Remembered I’d charityed 3 bikinis a while ago so had to buy some that actually fit. DS1 who has big feet for his age needed some more flip flops.
Hopefully when the kids go back to school I can sort baby stuff to get rid of and sell it on Facebook.

Alloftheboys · 13/08/2018 16:56

Managed to pass 8 paperbacks off to Mam.

StealthNinjaMum · 13/08/2018 17:42

Dds had some friends over and wanted to have a disco. So it gave me an opportunity to go through their CDs. A few toddler and CBeebies have gone in the charity shop pile and I have a few CDs without boxes and boxes without CDs left. I will be able to get rid of the complete ones. Not sure about the others. If I throw them away I know I'll find the inlays / boxes / Cds to complete them at a later date and will be annoyed with myself.

DH has continued painting. Thought a stack of books may go today but messed around by 2 separate buyers.

PenelopeFlintstone · 14/08/2018 06:40

A large box of books ARRIVED at my house today - but I've emptied them all into an empty daybed drawer. I've thrown out a pair of shoes, an ancient salad dressing, some jars which sat on my worktop for a month because I felt wasteful getting rid of them (mad).

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 14/08/2018 11:05

I'm back after my long weekend away. Knackered but determined to press on. Also have other family commitments this week but need to keep this effort going round normal life!
First coffee, then washing, then see what we can find!

StealthNinjaMum · 14/08/2018 17:34

Today I sorted out the school uniform and bought a couple of bits of PE kit so I have a few bits that don't fit ready to be sold. I also bought dd2 new school shoes. Not sure any of that counts as decluttering as I have had to bring stuff in to replace the stuff that is going out but it's a good feeling being organised. I need to start sewing labels on. It's a job I hate but needs doing.

I have a lady coming over to pick up some toys tonight.

My goodness I haven't been on this thread in a while. Very busy but I have managed to declutter DS's bedroom of old crap in time for Christmas presents and decorating his bedroom.

Tonight I will focus on making lists for things I need for the house. Plus a to do list which I can tick off and add on continuously. I bought a standard A4 notepad and plan on using it to declutter my life page by page Grin

Hope everyone is doing well SmileStar

GirlfriendInAKorma · 14/08/2018 18:54

The 'buyer' for one of my items on Facebook has now rearranged picking the item up 3 times. She tried to say she wasn't coming again tonight and I told her she has to or I'm reposting it. Goodness me...

Father's Day cards are still up... I haven't cracked yet....

StealthNinjaMum · 14/08/2018 20:20

korma that's so annoying about the buyer. To my surprise my lady turned up and two big bags of toys have gone. It feels like every week I mention I have got rid of some toys. We don't ever seem to run out!

I also spotted two identical children's books and decided we probably don't need either so both have gone in the charity shop pile.

GirlfriendInAKorma · 14/08/2018 20:34

@StealthNinjaMum She came - finally!

Just got rid of 4 dresses that I never wear. Forced myself to try them on and the definitely don't suit me so off they go. Two are Hobbs ones (2nd hand) which is why I was hanging onto them ... but very silly cos I look awful in them! Someone will hopefully be pleased of a charity shop bargain.

Gibble1 · 14/08/2018 22:43

The lounge is almost painted. We (DH) found the scrapers (in an Ikea bag I had already looked in). Wallpaper is off and tomorrow I’m finishing the painting and then sanding down the wood work. I will also be having a tidy and putting away the washing which is scattered all around the house at the moment.
