Getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge: Part 4

StealthNinjaMum · 06/07/2018 14:14

And the decluttering continues…

For 3,000 posts we have been slowly transforming our homes from hovels to palaces.

We’re not quite there yet some of us are further than others but we won’t give up until we have a decluttered existence.

We just get rid of one thing a day and report back to showoff for support and to be told off when we’re naughty and bring more clutter back into our homes, gardens, sheds, garages.

As ever newbies are welcome to join us.

@bobgoblin definitely freecycle for the car seat.

PenelopeFlintstone · 25/07/2018 11:42

In Australia, most car seats have a ten year recommended life. I just checked on Google. Is it only 5 in the UK? Lots of people buy and sell them here, including me.

PurpleFrog · 25/07/2018 12:25

I would freecycle the carseat if you don't think it is worth selling. Just don't do what I did...

I purchased a new cover, ready for selling. I took off the old cover and carefully washed the seat. I noticed some of the polystyrene padding was coming loose, so I glued it back on... and it melted the polystyrene! Sad I ended up having to chuck the seat and re-sell the brand new cover. Blush

Just popping on quickly to note this mornings efforts before I forget as we are out this afternoon/evening.
Did third big wardrobe basket. Emotional as my old jewellery/trinkets are in there including things from my Mum who has passed away. I'm keeping all the precious things but did bin an empty watch box, a heap of beauty samples that I will never use and a pile of receipts which had obviously been jammed in there on a mad tidy day and forgotten about - they seemed to be mostly from 2010 Blushhave also put a couple of ok but not needed makeup bags in the charity shop to go bag.
Then moved onto tidying my wardrobe shelves. Two waterfall cardigans that definitely do not spark joy, a belt and some old work wear also to go. Lots put in the laundry basket to freshen up

Next to do is the floor of this fitted wardrobe - Home to my collection of bags. I love bags. Very much. It's going to be a wrench to let some go but I am running out of room and need to see what I have to be able to use and enjoy them. Wish me luck!

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 25/07/2018 12:59

stillloving glad to help! Smile

Sitranced · 25/07/2018 15:14

Woke up this morning to winning bids on 2 bags so they're already in the post and on their way to the next person. Whilst I was logged in I decluttered my watch list removing all things I list over but have no need for.

stilllovingmysleep · 25/07/2018 18:40

@Sitranced intrigued! Explain please what you mean by decluttering your watchlist?

Sitranced · 25/07/2018 19:00

@stilllovingmysleep my watch list on eBay. Sorry just realised I hadn't mentioned that in my post.

Nofilter · 25/07/2018 20:06

sitranced I totally get you RE the dreaded watch list!

We're having quite a peaceful week in wales before the move. DD is full on tantruming though wow where's my sweet little angel gone?!?!

Got rid of a handful of toy bits and pieces today and sorted out the garden in front of our mobile home, a new gazebo and cleaned it up...

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 25/07/2018 21:08

I decluttered my eBay watch list recently too. Must stop browsing out of boredom... a few parcels are on their way to me from eBay and Amazon (early Xmas presents)

2 large sacks to charity shop today, walked out without looking around too so nothing extra coming in.

2 things sold on eBay so will wait for payment then post. 68 things listed in total over the last week which I'm very proud of. Got lots more to go. Given myself till I go back to work in Sept whatever hasn't sold will be charity shopped can't hold onto it indefinitely.

SandAndSea · 25/07/2018 21:26

I've finally taken action on a special dress I've had for years - I've posted it for sale on fb. It's got sentimental value for me but I'm so sick of it hanging around. It's time. I just hope someone will want it.

Gibble1 · 25/07/2018 21:55

Emptied the hallway of all the camp stuff. It’s all now on the trailer ready for cub camp.
Freezer has been emptied into the massive coolbox and filled with food for camp. Will switch it all back on Saturday. Need to do the last shop on Sunday.
Now having a large G&T to celebrate.

Tidy2018 · 26/07/2018 11:17

Wednesday

One of these incredibly annoying mornings when I spent hours on the phone and texting, trying to co-ordinate arrangements for the next few weeks.

After that, I was able to wriite up diary, timetable, lists to do. That made all the morning's frustration wortthwhile.

The big downstairs table is now clear of my paper. Family paperwork is in cupboard, my personal stuff is in my bedroom.

Gathered together boxes of very old photos, certificates, and other keepsakes. In my mind, they filled the room they were in. In reality, only took up two large shelves once they were boxed up and tidied. Sorting them out is a project for another time.

It's great to have things up off the floor. I get a bit twitchy now if there's a mess on a flat surface or I haven't done some tidying.

Lots of cards to move to a tub under my bureau, for sorting later. It's not churning in my opinion, it's showing me what's my responsibility, and clearing a lovely room that's been out of use since a shower leak a year ago.

stilllovingmysleep · 26/07/2018 11:59

@Tidy2018 how wonderful to clear up an old room that was unused! Well done

Alloftheboys · 26/07/2018 13:42

6 pairs of tatty pants decluttered.
Have done a small drawer and wardrobe declutter. One dress I remember last wearing while breastfeeding DS1 who was 3 mths old. He’s 6 now Blush

SandAndSea · 26/07/2018 13:50

I've posted something on ebay, contacted a potential buyer about another item (which I've reduced) and posted a last call for another item which is going to charity if it doesn't sell soon. I'm soooooo fed up of selling things.

(In: a lovely, new pair of sandals which I won in a bidding war and which were a fabulous bargain. :) )

blueberriesandyogurt · 26/07/2018 14:00

I have posted some stuff on facebook marketplace yesterday and a buyer is coming this afternoon for some fencing. All being well, I'll be £100+ up and have more space.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 26/07/2018 15:16

I'm packing my toiletries next and will chuck out as I go.

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 26/07/2018 19:29

My day 5 and so nice to wake up to tidy wardrobe shelves instead of a heaped mess.
Took the already filled bag to charity shop.
Dropped off a bag of school shirts and jumpers to friend with younger son who can make use of them for the next year. DS hardly wore his jumpers, always stuffed in his bag, so they are in very good nick so I'm glad someone will get the use of them. Also frees up quite a bit of space in his wardrobe.
Took all the glass recycling to the council bin. We have a mixed recycling bin collection every 2 weeks that takes all the paper, cardboard, plastics etc but doesn't allow glass in the bin so it needs a special trip to a bottle bank site. Great to have an empty recycling sack again.
Also took an old ripped duvet cover, DS knackered school trousers and a few other bits (he's much harder on trousers than tops!) to the clothes/textile bin (different place to the glass one. Our council likes to make us work for our green credentials!).
Trying to work up the enthusiasm for another purge but it's too hot!

lljkk · 26/07/2018 19:31

Something sold on Ebay yesterday & sent it off today.. sadly mispriced, I lost net 20p on the transaction! Oh well.

Am giving away some padded envelopes this weekend.

MonkeySlutIsBlown · 26/07/2018 19:48

2 body creams used up along with a roll on deodorant. I was tempted to take out a new roll on deodorant which smells amazing but made myself take out the Nivea spray one which has a tiny bit left.

  • I decided to spray the leftover deodorant everywhere and have now opened a nice new roll on Grin
stilllovingmysleep · 26/07/2018 19:48

So proud of myself! Did a total Marie Kondo today. We had a lovely expensive Nutri Bullet which was a gift I was given at a leaving do 2 years. It was extremely moving receiving this gift when I left a job that meant a lot to me. However I hate smoothies etc so it has not been used once in 2 years and is just sitting there due to my guilt.

So I texted my neighbours and one of them loved the idea of having it and it's in her house now! This was great, it will actually get used and will be loved and appreciated by someone!

I didn't go the step of thanking it and saying goodbye as that's too Japanese for me Grin but it felt a bit like that

Oh and I also decluttered one kitchen drawer!

Nofilter · 26/07/2018 20:25

Can't believe how much progress everyone is making it's brilliant!

I think I'm going to have to read up about this Marie Kondo stillBiscuit for you!!

Just a few bits today, broken tools, toiletries. Pleased I've made more progress with change of address letters too. A lot of it is online so I'm aiming to have the list finished by tomorrow.

Also need to do a tenancy deposit certificate and a few online payments and go back through my diary as have had a full on week with DD we be had a proper holiday. Swimming, beach, farm (she loved pigmy goats) family to stay and trying to win a horse teddy in the arcade and failing miserably!

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 26/07/2018 21:16

Feeling too hot as per my last post, went for a shower and had a little look round the ensuite - now ready to go out are:
One manky shower puff - immediately replaced by a new one from my stash Blush
pack of dried out facial wipes
Tube of nasty cheap Superdrug fake tan that didn't work well, no idea why I've held onto it Hmm
Travel deo that DH brought back with about one puff left in it - now sprayed out!
One half used hotel mini shower gel from my stash used up.

I've put some more hotel minis in the shower cabinet and asked instructed DH to use them up first before we buy any more toiletries. He doesn't know I have a very large bag of them to go ...

Nofilter · 26/07/2018 23:07

Oh my - this is home organising on ANOTHER LEVEL! I'm soooo excited to finally be able to do some of this stuff in my new home yikes!!
