Ants again!!!

Daisy2315 · 24/06/2018 21:38

Every year we have problems with ants and they are back again.

I just want to rant really as I am just sick of them.

They come up from under the bath upstairs, both flying ants and normal black ants. They also come from under the shower in the ensuite and it just stresses me out so much.

DH always manages to go away when we have the invasions and again he is away this week. At the worst last year we had a pest controller out who fumigated and sprayed pesticide under bath and shower and we found around 500 dead ants altogether.

I dont know what we can do to stop them.

Ant bait.

Daisy2315 · 25/06/2018 12:33

Thanks, we have tried this other years but with no luck. I’ll get some to try again

If you know where they are coming into the house, sprinkle ant powder there.

Daisy2315 · 25/06/2018 13:42

Thanks Mike, we have done that already. I think we have very persistent ants at this house.

I have this every year. Just had a company round to blitz the area with poison. You can't kill them for good. You just win a battle when you can. I tried the Council a couple of years ago - they had a brilliant quick service that you could book via your mobile. Last year they changed what they used and it didn't work. I went private. It worked. For a year.
Just had another battle. Won again. Until next time.

Daisy2315 · 25/06/2018 14:59

Thanks bellinisurge, we have had private pest control round a couple of times to spray etc. I am not a fan of chemicals so don’t really like this either as I get a bit ocd about it but the ants are just so hard to stop like you say it is a constant battle with them.

Also not a fan of chemicals. But even less of a fan of ants in our kitchen. And they turned up on our beds couple of years ago.

mummmy2017 · 25/06/2018 15:17

Please try this I promise they will be gone on a day..

Mix equal bicarb soda and icing sugar in a jar shake together and just sprinkle some where the ants are..

Ants can't fart... So as they can't tell which grain is sugar and which is soda.. They die. From the gas it creates... It kills the nest and they don't come back... Also it won't hurt the kids or pets.

Daisy2315 · 25/06/2018 15:18

Last year when we had a new bed and I came home to flying ants walking around on the headboard. That is when I called the pest control.

And your right definitely bette to have the chemicals then the ants. The other day I was sat watching tv and thought what’s that on my arm and it was an ant Shock.

Ants can't fart Grin

Daisy2315 · 25/06/2018 16:01

Thanks mummy2017 I’ll give that a try

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 25/06/2018 19:08

I might try it too. Thanks mummy2017.

DeckSofa · 25/06/2018 19:11

They don't like cinnamon, so sprinkle some along the outside of doorways.

Daisy2315 · 25/06/2018 23:42

@bellinisurge can I ask if after poison from pest control did they die quickly or did you still get some coming in?

Ours are now not only coming in through the bathroom upstairs but also the dining room downstairs so wondering whether to get someone out again before they get into the kitchen. But that might mean spraying upstairs and downstairs?

I’ve just spent the last hour scrubbing all the kitchen down making sure it’s clean so they don’t get attracted into there.

Spray upstairs and down. You'll get a couple of stragglers for a day or two after.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 26/06/2018 06:16

We’ve got rid of those using those ant houses - no other spray or natural deterrent worked.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 26/06/2018 06:17

Got rid of ^^them

Daisy2315 · 26/06/2018 08:09

Thanks we have got bait stations so will see how they go but if we get too many coming like we have previously I think we will have to spray as they drive me crazy. Last night I slept really bad thinking I had ants crawling on me

OP posts:
mummmy2017 · 27/06/2018 16:19

Poor you... Did you give the sugar mix a go..

Daisy2315 · 27/06/2018 19:02

Yes I have tried the sugar and got the bait stations down. There is an improvement as not seen any in house today so will see how it goes.

OP posts:
Cassimin · 27/06/2018 19:07

We had them last year.
Started to appear this year.
Sprayed skirtings with raid then got plug ins from amazon.
Have all gone and not returned.

Daisy2315 · 27/06/2018 19:20

I spoke too soon, dd just find flying ant in bathroom. I have not heard of a plug in, I will check that out

elportodelgato · 28/06/2018 15:27

I am wrestling with the little fuckers as well today Angry
I've tried the bait boxes but they don't seem to be working. Can I use just normal sugar with baking soda instead of icing sugar? Or are the grains too big?

mummmy2017 · 28/06/2018 15:32

Needs to be icing sugar... It kills the nest... Great as safe for children and pets.
