So DD3 is having a party on Friday! I need to have at least the downstairs tidy. My utility room and downstairs loo have to be decluttered.

To Do
Washing
Move Christmas Decs out of downstairs shower
Dishes
DH's Dinner

That will do for starters

See my head is away with the fairies! Blush

Happy birthday to them instead!

Guests arrive this evening. I don’t plan to see them until tomorrow they are arriving at quite a stupid time give Dd is 7 and I’m cooking a baby. No reason they couldn’t have come in the afternoon or tomorrow morning (both options were suggested) apart from it being their personality that they don’t like to be ‘told’ what’s happening. Can’t wait to get my house back on Thursday...

strawberry1122 · 24/03/2018 08:16

They are with you till Thursday?! Oh my days that would do my head in.

GoodnightVienna53 · 24/03/2018 08:26

Good luck @NotTakenUsername !

Also today:
Vacuum and mop hard floors.

NotTakenUsername · 24/03/2018 08:30

Oh yes.
I will have days of ‘well-meaning’ advice, random wittering on for the fear of silence and constant questioning about everything thing I’m doing.
A healthy dose of gossiping and judging others, and a daily commentary about how amazing dh is because he, you know, interacts with his child occasionally and cooks the dinner...
We’ll have comments that imply he is the main breadwinner and therefore should get more of a say in how our money is spent (I earn about half what he does - all goes in one pot, I just happen to do so in about 17hours a week vs his 72hrs, allowing me to be almost exclusively a sahm as well).
By the end I will be worn down and exhausted and likely be in a horrid mood until about Easter Sunday! 🤦‍♀️
Believe it or not it washes over me/I cope with it much better than I used to. I used to think it was my fault, but now I just know it is who they are.

strawberry1122 · 24/03/2018 08:34

Urgh they sound horrible. How rude for guests to sit there judging you and telling you how your relationship should be. I'd probably be given them directions to the nearest hotel after one night if that were me.

NotTakenUsername · 24/03/2018 08:37

Aha you see that’s the kicker. They tell me they aren't guests because they are family! 🤦‍♀️ I’m not sure how you get to the point of telling someone when you are in their house that you aren’t guests, but there you go. They aren’t evil, just bloody annoying!

strawberry1122 · 24/03/2018 08:42

What relations are they to you?

NotTakenUsername · 24/03/2018 08:44

Inlaws of course. I’d just tell my family to wind their neck in!! Grin

Such a delicate relationship to navigate. But I’m more in control of it than I used to be and it improves as I become stronger and have a higher self esteem.

NotTakenUsername · 24/03/2018 08:45

It would be worse if they didn’t care to visit Dd.

strawberry1122 · 24/03/2018 08:48

I would be going to my friends or going for lots of walks a lot just to get away from them. I dunno why people speak down to in laws. I plan to be the kindest and least interfering mil one day Grin

NotTakenUsername · 24/03/2018 08:58

I think it is a tricky dynamic. Especially with my mother in law because of some level of subconscious misogyny.
She thinks I should ‘take care’ of her son. I think we are two individuals that should look after each other, but not necessarily in the domestic sense. She gave me recipes he liked before we got married! (He doesn’t even like these recipes and left home over ten years before we even met!!)
But there is no badness there - just an old lady set in her ways. There is nothing that goes on that would warrant a big row! Just nice to anonymously vent.
If I have a son next at least I have a “what not to do” blueprint! Grin
