Do you know where everything is in your home?

Dss is fascinated by the fact that I always know where things are. No matter what it is. I told him I know where everything is in our house. He tested me Grin and I won.
He seems to find it to be an amazing skill but I thought every house has as least one person who does this. Am I wrong? How many of you know where everything is?

Yes I do, but I am really tidy. I know where everyone else's stuff in the house is too. I can pin point it to '3rd drawer down, on the left, under such and such'.
Recently sorted the loft too, so know exactly what's in what box up there too.

llangennith · 06/01/2018 21:02

I’m not that tidy but I’ve always known where everything is in any house we’ve lived, big or small.
Sometimes it’ll be “near the bottom of the pile of stuff third from the left under the desk”Grin

annoyedofnorwich · 06/01/2018 21:06

I barely know where everything is in my laptop case never mind a whole house!

lljkk · 06/01/2018 21:09

No.

Hastalapasta · 06/01/2018 21:09

Yes. I am amazingGrin
Part of the mental load I think.

Figrollsnotfatrolls · 06/01/2018 21:10

Why wouldn't I? Bit like when folk are shocked you remember birth details of multiple dc... Mm because I was there!!

Gingernaut · 06/01/2018 21:11

Yes.

Remembering I actually own any particular item - that's another story....

MysweetAudrina · 06/01/2018 21:12

Yes, until I go looking for it.

MumGoneMild · 06/01/2018 21:12

Dp is the keeper of that knowledge.
Every random thing I could ask about he can locate in seconds

Flomper · 06/01/2018 21:14

yes, but its a constant battle to make everyone else put things back in that place so I continue to know where they are.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 06/01/2018 21:16

All the thongs that dh hasn't moved!

KiaOraAura · 06/01/2018 21:18

Oh god no. DH does the washing then scatters it around the house never to be seen again. I lost a new dress recently, no idea where it could be.

Bluntness100 · 06/01/2018 21:18

Yes I do. Except my husbands phone and wallet. I refuse to know where they are because he is constantly losing them, and I'm fed up of it. He also refuses to put things back in the same place, so things get "lost".

Annoys the hell out of me.

Example, xmas, he takes paper , tape and scissors and goes up stairs to wrap my present.

Later. Scissors not back in drawer, where are the scissors? He can't remember, cue argument and us both hunting for the fucking scissors for half an hour. 😤

Vitalogy · 06/01/2018 21:29

Pretty much.

chandlersfraud · 06/01/2018 21:33

I might not know where it is but know where to look first, then second and third and nearly always find stuff in 3 tries. But we've got a house with really good storage jn a few different places.

Mupflup · 06/01/2018 21:37

Apparently not. Today I have spent about 45 mins looking for the spare key and another 20 looking for the blade for my mini food processor thingy!

bigbluebus · 06/01/2018 21:39

I'd say that I know where most things are. DH on the other hand is clueless. He unpacked the shopping the other day. I had to tell him where to store the bleach - we've lived here 25 years and had the utility room (where bleach is kept) for 14 years!

CountTessa · 06/01/2018 21:41

Yes, mainly because I put it there.

Also I am a mum and it is a truth universally acknowledged that a mum knows everything

LunchBoxPolice · 06/01/2018 21:41

Yes. I have a very particular set of skills.

TimesNewRoman · 06/01/2018 21:46

No but I really wish I did. Very envious of your organisation OP.

Bowerbird5 · 06/01/2018 21:46

I would say 90 % and my house isn't all that tidy.
I sometimes lose things like my phone or keys but otherwise know where most stuff is unless some people don't put them back in the right place. Looking at you DH!

loveablether · 06/01/2018 21:54

Not tidy, but I know where random shit is as I remember seeing things thinking 'that ain't supposed to be there I'll remember that for when I loose it' - 85% right.

SpoonfulOfJam · 06/01/2018 22:22

I know exactly where I would like things to be.

RNBrie · 06/01/2018 22:23

Yes I do. With the exception of the storage under the eaves and the garden shed and that's because dh is in charge of these areas.

I know that something is either in the shed or the eaves but not which as he "sorts" and shuffles things between the two. I don't go into the eaves ever as I'm pretty sure Stabby Joe lives there, with his knives, occasionally trying on my wedding dress and size 12 clothes I'll never get in to again.

fastfrank · 06/01/2018 22:24

I do! You'd think my husband had never been here judging from his finding skills
