Do you know where everything is in your home?

Dss is fascinated by the fact that I always know where things are. No matter what it is. I told him I know where everything is in our house. He tested me Grin and I won.
He seems to find it to be an amazing skill but I thought every house has as least one person who does this. Am I wrong? How many of you know where everything is?

I know where everything SHOULD be, and probably most stuff that isn’t where it should be!!

PinkFluffyBlanket · 06/01/2018 22:26

Yes I do. Every single thing in my home has a place and I know exactly where it is at all times.

I have never lost a sock or a piece from a Lego set, I am THAT good. Grin

I know where things should be but DH and teen DCs live here too and move things, also there is no need for me to know where all their personal posessions are. I do know where general household things are kept.

newtlover · 06/01/2018 22:44

yeah, it's the OTHER people in the house who are the flies in my otherwise orderly ointment

Thegrandoldelf · 06/01/2018 22:57

Yes but as a PP said I think it's all part of the mental load. By being the custodian of knowing where everything is enables DH to absolve himself of all responsibility for putting anything away or finding anything.
I have taken to simply answering 'I don't know' most of the time now when he asks where things are Wink

AalyaSecura · 06/01/2018 23:50

No. We are not organised enough, sadly. However, I am still chief "finder of stuff" because I am the only person in the house who considers looking under things.

ArnoldBee · 06/01/2018 23:56

I know where things shoukd be however for some reason the other 3 members of the household put things in random places my favourite today was a life jacket in the dining room.

ShotsFired · 06/01/2018 23:58

Almost creepily so. I needed a single page document from 12 years ago recently. Went to loft, opens box and pulled it straight out.

Ditto with a same age receipt (big purchase), straight to folder, there it was.

I generally know where everything is and have a near photographic memory for locating stuff after the event.

doubleshotespresso · 07/01/2018 00:02

Yes it is me in our household who knows the location of everything, you know, rolls of sellotape, blu-tak, measuring tape, stamps, important documents, address books, spare keys etc.
DP honestly couldn't locate the teabags if his life depended on it. Confused

tigercub50 · 07/01/2018 00:02

Not since we moved - drives me crackers!

CanIBuffalo · 07/01/2018 00:05

No. There are 5 people living in this house. My mind boggles at the thought of remembering where any of them might have put things. I don't have the room in my brain for that.

Sevendown · 07/01/2018 00:07

I don’t have a clue.

I can never find anything.

We have too much stuff and no where to put any of it.

EnidButton · 07/01/2018 14:06

Yes, everything. I never used to until I got big into the decluttering a few years ago and gutted every single drawer etc. Now I know exactly where everything lives and can find things in seconds.

We should test each other Grin

specialsubject · 07/01/2018 16:19

Pretty much, but there are also places for almost everything. If we don't have enough places we get rid of stuff.

christinarossetti · 08/01/2018 21:38

Yes. This was what inspired my Big Declutter of 2013. I realised that I was avoiding eg doing things involving scissors because I could never find them.

My head felt clearer for going through every drawer and cupboard and knowing where things are
