I don't understand Flylady. Can't you summon yourself to be pleased in things other than shiny sinks?

The whole thing is trez bizarre. " woe is me, my sink is not shiny. I missed thursday as the dog had a mild heart attack, will i ever get back on course.

Do you really aspire to this urban mundanity?

well IME you either go with it or you don't. If you get too philosophical and dep about it you don;t do t - if your ead the posts don't think and get on with it your house looks nicer.

(I wish I had a job)

Oh did I say that last bit out loud?

emankcin · 24/04/2007 00:01

AHA!

I knew it.

tiz a thinly veiled cry for help " a life, a life...Please....."

OP posts:
Dimpled · 24/04/2007 00:08

yes - isn't that what mumsnet is? Loads of people typing away whilst deep down wondering where their life has gone?

emankcin · 24/04/2007 00:13

Do you think so? i rather saw it as a hobby and wouldn't compare the two. I could never see housework as a hobby. Or delight in it.

OP posts:
Dimpled · 24/04/2007 00:16

no - only joking - I use m'net as a way or avoiding house work - looking at the screen means I can't see the groaning laundry spilling out of the basket!

Mhamai · 24/04/2007 00:17

You got a problem with the fly thread lady? have you? have you?

emankcin · 24/04/2007 00:18

Are you a fly too?

OP posts:
Dimpled · 24/04/2007 00:19

no Mhamai - am on the f***g fly lady threads (but don't swear there!)

Mhamai · 24/04/2007 00:20

Farkin sure I am, I'm Bono's sister, wanna see me shades man?

emankcin · 24/04/2007 00:22

I'm not quite sure of the connection to bono and cleaning dirt. There is a pun there.

I'll Pray for you

OP posts:
Mhamai · 24/04/2007 00:25

Ain't no prayers gonna save my soul, I've got me an express one way ticket to hell!
Mwahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mhamai · 24/04/2007 00:27

Ps, the Bonp reference is that his famous large shades are fly shades.

AitchTwoOh · 24/04/2007 00:28

emankcin, are you a namechanger?

Mhamai · 24/04/2007 00:29

Bono rather. For the record I very much have a life, it's the time consumed shagging my two lovers that tends to leave the house a bit unkempt, so the fly thread is a Godsend tbh.

emankcin · 24/04/2007 00:31

I can undestand that, one must need to shake and vac daily to get rid of that odour.

OP posts:
Mhamai · 24/04/2007 00:33

Oh no darling I wouldn't dare sully my abode with such aroma, I fly out to the likes of Paris and London and leave the shake and vacing to the maids, well I have a life to lead!

chipmonkey · 24/04/2007 01:09

emankcin = nickname backwards

Londonmamma · 24/04/2007 11:33

I didn't understand Flylady but now find it helps me discipline myself to get the boring stuff done (which noone else is going to do for me), so that I CAN enjoy my life. I don't find a life surrounded by dirty laundry, dishes, clutter etc very fulfilling and Fly has helped me. Simple, but true.

The whole FLY thing can be a bit OTT TBH.

I don't get dressed to my shoes every morning...I don't wake up 5 mins before the rest of the family to do my make up...I don't "Bless" my home...I don't keep a Control Journal and I don't own a FLY lady sewing patch!
But....I do love my home...I do get greatly needed support and encouragement to do the most mundane, head rotting jobs, which most SAHM's with kids to look after and husbands to support have to do...and I do look very very fondly on my fellow FLYers

So in reply to the origional OP...I do aspire to do more things in life than shine my sink. I aspire to make the most of my current situation, keep my home happy, clean and safe and while I am here as a SAHM, make my life as easy and stress free as possible, make new friends and keep on top of all the things that would other wise send me to the loony bin!

In a few years time my life will no doubt take a turn in the opposite direction and I will hopefully be happy in the knowledge I did my best and I stayed sane

Mhamai · 24/04/2007 12:11

Bloody great big round of applause for you ludaloo!

glitterfairy · 24/04/2007 13:25

Well said ludaloo and mhamai pmsl.

I am not a SAHM but try to work from home and run a business and fly. Before fly I was in a constant state of chaos. Flying helps me to achieve a more normal state of affairs around the house. Actually naming things and dividing the place into zones helps to keep at least some things under control.

Mock shiny sinks at your peril because before that there was washing up overflwoing in our house and now it is tidy and I get up feeling much better. Putting a load of washing on every day also helps to stop the overflowing laundry bin with three kids. For us single mums fly lady develops routines and keeps us sane.

Also the threads themselves are an incredible source of support in every way and everyone on there is nice to each other whihc sometimes makes a change around here.

grouchyoscar · 24/04/2007 14:07

You don't have to swallow the FLY maxim hook like and sinker but it does help to keep you sane it really does. It makes you feel that you are doing worthwhile work for your family and it gets you into good habits.

Plus it is a huge source of support for even the smallest reasons. The posters are wonderful ladies and I thank them all.

So scoff at the manic Fly woman if you wish. I have mentioned that she lives in the house in American Beauty. I can tell you it makes the boring monotony of endless housework bearable.

EHM · 24/04/2007 14:32

Well said luda,Glitter & Grouchy

yaddayah · 24/04/2007 14:35

Summon yourself ? Are you a warlock ?
