I don't understand Flylady. Can't you summon yourself to be pleased in things other than shiny sinks?

The whole thing is trez bizarre. " woe is me, my sink is not shiny. I missed thursday as the dog had a mild heart attack, will i ever get back on course.

Do you really aspire to this urban mundanity?

yadd lol

grouchyoscar · 24/04/2007 14:42

Don't have a sink capable of shining TBH

chipmonkey · 26/04/2007 21:09

FlyLady is not really about shiny sinks, it is about picking yourself up out of the pit of inadequacy you live in when you are crap at housework and all your neighbours just naturally clean their houses as they go along without having to think about it.

MadamePlatypus · 26/04/2007 21:32

Its about keeping one bit of your house shiny and nice (start small) and expanding from there.

The shiny sink is a place to start. Its about saying your house is a mess, but if you could just spend 5 minutes on your sink (and get off MN ) then atleast you would be able to find a clean saucepan!

(M. Platypus scurries off to shine sink...)

chipmonkey · 26/04/2007 22:35

actually, very hard to FLY and be on MN, the two are not very compatible!

chocolattegirl · 26/04/2007 22:41

It is if you use your timers and set them for 15 mins then go do something else.

chipmonkey · 27/04/2007 02:22

You see, chocolategirl, I am very good at obeying the timer if I am doing the kitchen or laundry. If I am on MN I turn it off and continue to MN!

chocolattegirl · 27/04/2007 11:26

I'm the same .

Haven't got time to sit here all day though - must colour hair, hoover round and do something about the recycling.

Just another couple of minutes .

fed up with the constant emails. GrrRR

Just want to say I am exactly the same chipmonkey! Would also add Flylady has saved my sanity. Really did not have a clue how to stay on top of things before and have tried many many 'run your home with ruthless efficiency' books and methods and always fallen by the wayside. Flylady is the first method to really make me feel in control and capable of running a home efficiently. I was terribly sceptical at first and found the book (which I had bought in desperation after Amazon brought it to my attention - because of all the other domestic self-help books I had bought from them presumably ) a bit saccharine - nearly put it in charity shop bag after first couple of pages. So glad I persevered - house not perfect still but I know what to do and how to do it! If I follow 'routines' order is now never far below the surface. Best thing has been the timer - you really do get things done a hell of a lot faster with it, and you realize that you can make a lot more time to do the things you enjoy - like MN!
