Please help me choose a carpet cleaner

At some point soon, I will be able to move into a newly refubished house and have to look after brand new flooring. Carpets, laminate and vinyl.

At the same time, I'll be moving out of rented accommodation with its poor quality, cream coloured carpets. In spite of my best efforts, the cream is going grey in places.

I suspect the plan was to never give back the deposit, the carpet is very poor and glued down. Hmm

I have been saving up my Nectar points and have £90 worth to 'spend' at Argos and want to make sure I give the flat as thorough a clean as possible and ensure I start as I mean to go on in my own house.

Can anyone recommend a carpet shampooer/cleaner that can do stairs and upholstery?

Vax? Bissell? Rug Doctor?

I'm prepared to spend up to £250 in total not including detergents.

I'm swaying towards Bissell.

Do any of you fine, fine forum members have any arguments for or against any brand? And why?

Thanks.

The lady who bought the Bissell was very happy with it.

Food for thought.

I have posted on several of these kind of threads - my Vax dual v (?) gets so much general filth out of my carpets, though does not seem to completely get rid of actual stains.
