Hello, yes its me and I have a numpty question regarding hanging washing on a line

which at my grand old age of humpty-dumpty two I've barely done before .. always used tumble dryer or airer

but I have a new retractable washing line so have been gaily hanging up washing and feeling all 50's suburban housey-wifey too

but what's gone wrong? I have crispy clothes .. not sun-dried piles of freshness

And they will be a pig to iron.......

I always have hideous crunchy clothes if they are hung out aswell

so I must be a numpty too

I have the same problem and it's peeing me off because it equals more ironing.

Did you leave them out too long? Is your washing machine rinsing properly? Did you use conditioner? Is any of this helpful? A fellow numpty (fabbo word!!) x

But you lazy moos have become too dependant on your tumble driers. YOu have forgotten what line dried clothes feel like. Yes, they need ironing.

it is great you are doing it - much better for the world. I think that line dried washing is no where near as soft as tumble dried if that is what you are used to but:

1. it smells divine
2. it makes your whites brighter
3. it is good for your immunity

Just shake it loads when you get it down.

My line dried clothes aren't crispy.

my friends are never crunchy and stiff enough to be used as a surfboard so something is wrong

I love drying clothes outside, hate using a drier.

Don't know what the answer is because mine are always lovely. Towels can dry a little hard, so I either take them in before they're 100% dry, or I just fold them and store them in the airing cupboard where they lose any 'crunchy' feeling.

I wash using soapnuts and no conditioner.

don't have an airing cupboard .. can I shove them in a kitchen cupboard?

mostly worried about kids jimjams

Maybe too much powder or not rinsed properly.

Also do you use fabric conditioner? With some stuff I put it on the line until it is dry and then just ziz it in the drier for 5 minutes (saves on ironing)

normally use ecoballs .. might try them next time I'm taken by 50's suburbia

I am always disappointed by how much my washing does NOT look like a washing powder advert when I take it off the line. It's not cruchy but not soft.

Mine is crunchy aswell. Unless...i get it in before it is 100% dry then it is okish. I much prefer the feel of tumble dried clothes but i am trying to be good and line dry. Have to say though the whites do look brighter when line dried. God, how boring do i sound!! Slopes back off to fill tumble drier.

My line-dried washing is never crunchy. It smells fab tho. Dried by the wind and sun, how wonderful.

I've only just started putting washing on line after winter and noticed my clothes crispy (they weren't last summer). Switched to fairy conditioner and they are lovely again ( i only use about half of the amount that the bottle says as well)

I line dry everything (except towels, which are line dried for a while and finish off in the tumble dryer fro extra softness)

my clothes are NEVER crispy either. In fact they stay extreamly soft

i live in a very hard water area.
I refuse to sue fabric softner (i dont like the idea of putting petrolchemicals all over my clothes) (i have last week purchased ecove softner but have not used it yet)
i ALWAYS wash with a full load and never more than 50mls of washing liquid.
