If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine and Cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it November already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore the barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to the emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here!.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

I've decluttered the pumpkin! Onwards and upwards.

Thanks for the thread and all the links SC. It's helped me "finish" the hall and porch. I also did put away the ironing board as it was the first thing I saw in the dining room. Normally I just don't notice tbh. Plus I hadn't put it up so it wasn't in my mental box of things to put away!

FlyingJellyfishInTheAttic · 01/11/2017 14:37

Had a nice morning shopping. There's certain things I want to get for DD that they don't make anymore (old TV series) so options are either Ebay or charity shops so was checking the charity shops. No luck but found perfect present for DH that I wasn't expecting so not a total loss!

Me and DH have a day off together child free in a week or two so plan is big trip to town to finalize Christmas prepping then.

Daily jobs are done, have sorted bday cards for rest of 2017, got new diary, got new clothes (lost loads of weight so have bought basics).

DD asleep so plan is to do dinner, tidy table and declutter some of dining room tat that is still in the dining room. When she's awake will do landing and clothes.

Cagliostro · 01/11/2017 15:16

Sludgecolours · 01/11/2017 16:11

Welcome to all newcomers! Sorry to be absent for most part of day! Trying to make the most of the fading light here and will be back later tonight with proper replies/personals etc.

Evening All

Hi to all new comers.

Being as useless as ever, off to naughty corner.
Diet is going in opposite direction and still have a paper-mountain.

However yesterday digging into the depths of our attic hole (loft conversion so entrance to only storage is literally a hole in the wall) looking for halloween decorations found a full storage bag. Contained 4 of DH's work coats, he assured me he hated them and they're getting all new uniforms so they need returning anyway, and Dd's winter coat from year 5 - she's now in year 9!!
Has been added to the mountain of clothes for recycling which just needs sorting into ok and being donated to Dd's school charity clothes collection and worn out and sent for fabric recycling.

Done today

Ds off with stomach ache so lots of cuddles
2 loads of washing Shock
Work
Washing up from last night
put halloween decorations away

To Do

Put clothes away
Tea - Ds wants fish fingers and roast potatoes (frozen ones) Hmm
Dd's tea

Not sure what wlse

DH home back on tomorrow.

Hello, just placemarking Smile. Thanks for new thread SC and welcome to any newbies.

DD1’s bday today so house is full of birthday clutter!

Sludgecolours · 01/11/2017 19:40

Evening all! I hope the first day of the Flying month has gone well for everybody!

First, a warm welcome to Justonemorecoffee (from a fellow perfectionist procrastinator ). I think it is quite a common combination as the two result in a bit of an impasse!! Agree with Cag that just doing something - anything! - is better than nowt. We shall overcome and all of that! Smile

And a warm welcome also to JingsMahBucket and ibuiltahomeforyou!

Looks like you have both got off to a great start TaylorTinker (I have a bad habit of bringing the ironing board upstairs so I can watch telly and then not taking it down again) and Lelly78 (well done re: today's mission work)!

Lovely to have you back with us Shannara (although sorry to hear your ds is poorly; hope he feels better soon). My supposed diet has gone backwards too if it's any consolation!

Sounds as if you are on a roll FlyingJellyfish Star. Congrats on Flying so well in dining and living room. You sound very impressively organised with your forward planning and present buying and perfect Flying technique to go shopping and avoid burn out too! Star. Congrats on your weight loss also!

I love it when you start sprouting broody feathers Zoo Grin. Great lists btw and well done for sorting toaster drawer and helping out your friend.

Wow Cag think you are doing amazingly well with your forays outside having given birth so recently!!

Sorry you are feeling rubbish Hills and hope the doc appt proves helpful.

Well done re: porch sorting Foxes! Can't be easy with littlies and DIY going on !

Hope you had a lovely family visit today Longtime

Cheery wing flaps to everyone else!

Ta da:
animals
Mass
4 loads washing - some hung up/some dd
put away washed and ironed clothes
made butternut squash soup
folded towels and pants
helped dd strip and change her bed and tidy her room a bit
threw clothes in weekend bag
printed out recipes
did a rush job of boudoir (still loads to do)
bickered rather with dh who is on holiday and therefore (a) has a cold - he only allows himself to get ill on holiday and (b) generally grumpy because he's not in the office Hmm
loaded up car and drove to wreck2 picking up dd friend on the way
unpacked car
lawn cutting
strimming
pruning
talked to builders at length about guttering
yet more apple picking (have long tool now so can reach high ones)
took girls out for a crepe in the village but everywhere was shut!
delivered present to neighbour
cooked easy supper

On country (early to bed, early to rise) timings here (and we are an hr ahead of UK anyway) so about to post links for tomorrow at a decent hour for a change!

Hope everyone has a good evening!

***

The summary for Thurs 2nd November is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 2 for Thurs 2nd Nov is here! It is the controversial one about getting dressed to shoes as soon as we get up in the morning. Some of us do, some of us don't! Rationale behind it here.

We are in Zone 1 : here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 1 (if you are at that stage) is here.

Thursday's mission is here. Wipe smudges and fingerprints off walls and windows in dining room and wipe down front down.

The daily focus for Thurs is running errands. Dentist, doctor, hair appts, grocery shopping etc.

The monthly habit for November is menu planning here! (As my menu planning is pretty much under control, I am still focusing on last month's habit, paper clutter Blush.)

Flykid's challenge: here (hopefully continually renewing itself).

Daily reminders (which should also update themselves automatically)
here.

Holiday missions here!.

Small steps everyone!

Wow this thread is as busy as ever!
We had a lovely evening trick or treating yesterday.
In a bid to be more productive I got up half an hour early this morning and managed to tidy away the halloween decorations, hang out a load of washing and put some more in before heading off to work.
This evening dp hoovered, I removed Christmas parcels from the porch and had a 5 minute tidy up of kitchen, living room, bathroom and our bedroom ... I don't honestly feel I can commit to getting much more done on a working day. But my sink is shined and I am feeling motivated ... here is to a productive November Wine

Bowerbird5 · 01/11/2017 19:52

Hi,
I have been reading your posts since about September and have decided to rejoin. You seem such a friendly, caring bunch which wasn't my first experience of mumsnet.
I have been trying to declutter. No kids at home now but I have sentimentally held on to some of their things and I am a crafter. My daughter still has lots of her stuff here and art work. Look forward to meeting you properly. Baby Caglitini is gorgeous I was so thrilled to see her photo and hope you're feeling ok. Don't stress about the mess baby is more important than clutter. Waves to everyone else.

FlyingJellyfishInTheAttic · 01/11/2017 20:01

Thank you sludgecolours Smile. Mega tired now though so just tidying table then watching Apprentice.

Well done to everyone else too, sounds like everyone is having a really productive day and hope you all had a good Halloween.

DSS here tomorrow for rest of half term so we doing Halloween then: have stocked up on half price sweets and some kid friendly halloween movies.

Bowerbird5 · 01/11/2017 20:09

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/11/2017 21:15

People are FUCKWITS!!!!! AngryAngryAngry

Oh and no joy with the doctor's appointment because they were closed Hmm

JustOneMoreCoffee · 01/11/2017 21:37

Thankyou all for the warm friendly welcome. I tell myself I don't have time to tackle certain jobs but then they never take as long as I've built them up to be in my head. Something is better than nothing needs to be my mantra. Still need to shine the sink and wipe down the kitchen before I can reward myself with Black Forest gateau, diet is also a work in progress Grin

JustOneMoreCoffee · 01/11/2017 21:47

Xpost enjoy the naughty corner, hope you can get your appointment asap Flowers

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/11/2017 22:09

Will be monday as our practice runs a call back system for appointment booking and I am not allowed to be called back during work shifts. Which means until then my ears will drive me batty with the hypersensitive hearing nonsense and pain that is going on atm.

People have now stopped moving furniture, dropping things from the loft, shouting about ds walking through to raid the fridge cos he is in the way. Pumpkin pie has been eaten, ds hasn't argued about the antibiotics stuff might have told him the science relationship behind not completing courses/taking meds properly and antibiotic resistence < whistles innocently> Work clothes are in washer. And calm has been restored. There be aspies in this house and communication can be an issue and it gets to be too much when you feel like crap.

ta da
