Right then. I've got a Dyson animal upright which is for sale on eBay as I hate it - the worst and most expensive vacuum I've ever owned.
Don't want to make another expensive mistake so recommendations please...
My requirements - corded, bagless. I've got a dog, filthy children, a long haired girl, wooden, tiled and carpet floors. I want something that's easy to manoeuvre, picks up all the dirt.
I've looked at shark, miele and vax.
Heeeelllppp!

We have a sebo X4. Messy kids so we vacuum at least daily. Bags last us 5 or 6 week s. usually toss them because all the sticky crumbs in them begin to stink, rather than because they're full!

LonginesPrime · 21/08/2017 14:44

I wouldn't recommend the bag-free vax - it's my first bag-free vacuum cleaner and a huge disappointment. Suction seems crap unless it's completely empty.

Watching this thread with interest for a suitable replacement..

Miele cat and dog is fantastic. Has a bag but they are cheap on eBay.

fruitpastille · 21/08/2017 14:48

Miele cat and dog. I don't have pets but really like it and has lasted years. I'm not sure how often I change bags but it is weeks rather than days! Argos, Amazon and local hardware shop stock them.

imip · 21/08/2017 14:51

I know it's not what you've asked, but I have a 10 yr old Henry, 4 messy primary aged dds with long hair and the Henry is great!

I've also got a 2 yo animal and it doesn't bear comparison.

BumWad · 21/08/2017 15:06

My Sebo is also an X4

I think bagged vacuums are the way forward they are definitely less messy

rabbit123 · 21/08/2017 15:10

2 kids and 2 long haired cats in a very old house which does get dusty. 1 Sebo bag will last us about 2-3 months. The bags are really big and the design of them means you don't have to change the bag until it's packed solid with dirt

rabbit123 · 21/08/2017 15:11

Meant to say, you can get a service box which contains 10 bags and a new filter set for £19.99. That lasts us about 2 years.

PretentiousMNUserName · 21/08/2017 15:39

Why are the bagless ones having a better rating for allergy sufferers though? Surely if you change filter frequently it amounts to the same thing?

PickAChew · 21/08/2017 15:45

Some of the filters are finer and more complex. You can get a finer filter for the sebo. It just costs twice as much!

rabbit123 · 21/08/2017 15:53

Bagless vacs usually need stronger filters just to stop them leaking. In a bagged vac, there is a bag and then a filter. In a bagless vac, there's just a filter. With bags, you never have to come into contact with the dirt. The minute you open the bin on a bagless vac, the seal is broken and fine dust leaks back into the air.

PretentiousMNUserName · 21/08/2017 21:03

So if anybody had to choose between fanciest bagged pet Miele or blizzard - any votes?

rabbit123 · 21/08/2017 21:20

Bagged Miele cat & dog, no question about it.

TheScottishPlay · 21/08/2017 21:23

Haven't rtft but Sebo. I love mine.

Kofa · 21/08/2017 23:31

Thanks Rebecca, I just googled it, It does look clumsy and the reviews are not very positive. My preferred option is a cordless stick - something neat, powerful and efficient. Not a lot to ask Smile.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/08/2017 23:37

Cylinder Miele.

20nil · 22/08/2017 03:26

Miele every time and I've had both.

Hunkle · 22/08/2017 03:56

Bosch Athlet is bloody fab. I love using it Blush

nooka · 22/08/2017 04:01

We replaced our much hated Dyson with a Henry (had a Henry before the Dyson too, don't know what dh was thinking!). My mum loves her Miele.

Germgirl · 22/08/2017 04:04

Ha santons got one of those G Tech things? Every time the ad is on I nearly order one.

Germgirl · 22/08/2017 04:04

Ha santons? Is that even words? has anyone

PretentiousMNUserName · 22/08/2017 07:19

Yes I'm going to have to go for the bagged Miele and shut down the flirtations with other bagless vauums!

Maybe I need a robot too at some point!

Onthehighseas · 22/08/2017 07:23

Sebo X4 pet. It is miles better than anything I've ever had before, especially my Dyson. Dont know anyone who has bought a Sebo and then gone on to a different make. The bags seem to last forever, I dont know how, but the contents are really compressed. And no tipping open containers into your bin.

Kofa · 22/08/2017 07:30

One of my problems apart from the messy dh and kids, the digs and cats is I have a bad back and find cylinder vacuums and heavy uprights really hard to use. I am convinced a good stick vacumn would revolutionise my life. Will keep watching thread with interest.

OurHouseAtTheEndOfOurStreet · 22/08/2017 07:31

I had to borrow a friend's Miele a couple of times while our vacuum was being repaired and dc were actually offering to hooverShock as it worked so satisfyingly well (esp compared to our crap old Dyson!)
