what's in your entrance hall?

is it tidy or a jumble of shoes and coats? if the former what's your trick? what furniture do you have? where do you keep your shoes? and kids' school bags? I'm on a mission to tidy our hall.

we did have a coatstand but it broke and fell on top of our nanny, clarting her quite badly on the head. She thought someone had followed her into the house and was attacking her . the coatstand is going in the bin. it looked shite anyway.

Lots of shoes and bags all over the floor and a pile of junk on the windowsill.

Hulababy · 23/03/2007 21:29

We have a small square hall/lobby you first come into, leading to the hallway. In here there is a metal shoe rack, a metal upright coat stand and DD's wooden apple tree coat stand(from Vertbaudet) Generally quite tidy, although the walls desperately need a new coat of paint.

clayre · 23/03/2007 21:31

a bike, buggy the litter tray, coats hung on the bike and buggy, shoes a pair on every step and a cupboard full of shoes that doesn't fit the kids (why do we keep them, dp golf clubs with coats on, and i think there's a phone table with the answering machine on!

MrsSpoon · 23/03/2007 21:33

In the vestibule there is a console table with three wise monkeys on it, a couple of items of mail and underneath a shoe rack with one pair of shoes on it, also a door handle and some screws for some bizarre reason. Then in the actual hallway there is a piano and a bit wicker basket a la Anthea for the everyday School bags and handbags, DS1's homework is lying there for some reason and a couple of pairs of stray shoes that didn't make it to the cupboard. Then at the very back of the hallway there is a cupboard that it stacked with coats (there are four coat rails, with four hooks each on them), shoes, hats, scarves, gloves, handbags and shoe polishing stuff.

dingdongjustforyoufg · 23/03/2007 21:34

fully loaded shoe racker (as DTs call it) and my briefcase as I couldn't manage to take it upstairs to study 2 days ago

PelvicfloornomoreChocolate · 23/03/2007 21:36

Pushchair with coats hung over it.
Shoes piled on top of a wicker chest which has more shoes inside.
Sideboard.

J20BABYLOVESCHOCOLATEEGGS · 23/03/2007 21:38

LadyOfTheFlowers · 23/03/2007 22:17

Nikki76 · 23/03/2007 22:19

rolloneaster · 23/03/2007 22:19

LadyOfTheFlowersAKACodsPatsy · 24/03/2007 15:42

hallway is too blinkin' small for anything else!

chipo · 24/03/2007 20:42

We have a large sideboard and dd's buggy. Coats go on hooks next to understair cupboard so out of sight, though I must say is looking very empty at the moment. I have one of those shoe bag things hanging on the back of the understairs cupboard door so tidy and out of sight. Best thing I ever bought.

lou33 · 29/03/2007 13:59

not one thing

PestoEasterMonster · 29/03/2007 14:04

We've got:-

bench to sit on by front door (filled up with shoes)

coat hooks full of coats

table that used to have hamster cage on (under it, more shoes & slippers!)

Huge chest of drawers full of things that don't have a home anywhere else (like batteries and light bulbs..!)

a blue Ikea childrens table + chairs (now houses the answerphone & my phone charger)

we have a big hall

BettySpaghetti · 29/03/2007 14:10

At this moment in time....DP on his hands and knees laying a floor !

As well as DP there is also a huge pile of floorboards to go down, a wooden trunk full of cr@p, coat hooks, shoe rack , DS's tricycle, DD's scooter, and a couple of rugs . Not as cluttered as it sounds honest as its quite a big hall in two parts.

NomDePlume · 29/03/2007 14:13

An oak console table with a huge table lamp and big silver bowl for keys etc

Tub chair and footstool

(We have a porch which houses all the shoes, coats, brollies etc)

nulnulcat · 29/03/2007 14:26

dont have a hall as house is open plan have a porch type thing where we leave muddy shoes umbrellas ect but no room for anything else door from that opens straight into living room, have a massive understairs cupboard where everything lives.

princessmelTingChoccyEggs · 29/03/2007 14:29

We have a shoe cupboard with 4 pull down doors - fits lots in , from Ikea.

A coat hook (up high) for adult coats and 2 lower down children coat hooks. One boy one girl design!

Sometimes a buggy.

Its still messy though. Always got things on floor and stuff that needs to be taken out so put by door etc.

kittypants · 29/03/2007 14:30

muddy wellies.

BabiesEverywhere · 29/03/2007 14:30

Doormat
Pram with cat net

On the coat hooks
Three wooden coat hangers with coats
One tie rack with ties

On the shelf below hooks
Wicker basket with clothes brush and house keys in it.

It is the tidiest it has ever been

saffy202 · 29/03/2007 14:39

A cupboard with all the shoes and coats in.
3 badminton rackets, shuttlecocks, a scooter. Football boots caked in mud, drying out so I can bang them against the wall outside(I enjoy doing that )

A tall vase with old sweet papers at the bottom.

Wolfgirl · 10/04/2007 13:32

...half my kitchen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! been then nearly two years! and not much sign of getting it shifted either! xx

ComeOVeneer · 10/04/2007 13:37

I have one high coat rack for adult coats and one low for the kids. " semicircle tables, one with telephone letter rack and wicker basketcontaining keys, sunglasses, mobile phones etc. The other has framed photos and fresh flowers. Shoes are removed and put in the basket on the stairs to be return to the appropriaate bedrooms. A few pictures on the wall and that is it. Pushchairs are kept in the outdoor cupboard under the stairs. I hate a cluttered hall. (COV is an annally retentive clean freak ).

ComeOVeneer · 10/04/2007 13:37

" should be 2.
