what's in your entrance hall?

is it tidy or a jumble of shoes and coats? if the former what's your trick? what furniture do you have? where do you keep your shoes? and kids' school bags? I'm on a mission to tidy our hall.

we did have a coatstand but it broke and fell on top of our nanny, clarting her quite badly on the head. She thought someone had followed her into the house and was attacking her . the coatstand is going in the bin. it looked shite anyway.

A rather nice but bloody expensive table that DP "just had to have" on that are 3 matching photo frames with my childrens school photos in.
In the drawers are all out hats, gloves etc and under it is a wicker basket with toys in.

snig · 23/03/2007 17:54

Ok you win!

PinkTulips · 23/03/2007 17:55

small flat with no storage!

crystalpony · 23/03/2007 17:56

Big chest of drawers, wrought iron screen, fireplace, mirror, pictures of family, lamp and dogs blanket

Nbg · 23/03/2007 17:56

We have a shoe cupboard and a fitted cupboard which is quite narrow so just has the kids coats, umberellas and my handbag in.

snig · 23/03/2007 18:03

don't worry pinktulips my shame is we have a small flat with storage and we still have loads of crap in our hallway.

nogoes · 23/03/2007 18:03

Oooh I'd love an entrance hall.

oxocube · 23/03/2007 18:04

an Ikea shoe cupboard thing that only I use, coat hooks on wall with too many coats so they keep falling onto floor, school bags (3), odd shoes not in said shoe cupboard (the matching ones in the dog's bed in sitting room), 2 bags of clothes kindly given to me by a friend but not yet sorted btwn children, a tape recorder/cassette thingy at bottom of stairs (why?) and a horse riding hat and crop which should be upstairs. Our hall is tiny so I really should tidy the crap!

hatwoman · 23/03/2007 20:47

butlers don;t clear up! they just make sure the maid does it.

well our entrance hall resembles the rest of the house - tiny, no space , jam packed with stuff

in fact entrance square described it better

sunnyjim · 23/03/2007 20:53

Pram, an old toy chest with shoes in - my idea as they used to just get kicked off, its also the right height for DS to sit on. a wicker basket with hats and gloves in and DS bike jacket and helmet. none of us are fat but my mom does have a squeeze getting past.
Coats are under the stairs - very messy!
I want to replace the baskets with ONE storage thing but the hallway is only 4ftx 15ft so none of those fancy ideas in magazines for hallways that can take a table and chairs plus built in wardrobes work!

divamumplusbump · 23/03/2007 20:58

we have long hall, and all clothes goes understairs cupboard, in the hall, you will se two pair of shoes, mine and dh`s

kimi · 23/03/2007 21:02

Hat woman, were you asking where my table came from?
I will have to check with DP I know it was on the internet and we had to wait 6 weeks for it, but from where it came I know not, .
But it is solid wood and very nice.
He got some cube tables, a coffee table and a chest of drawers as well.
Me I would have gone to argos !!!!
He's a bt posh, don't know what he see's in me

katyt1 · 23/03/2007 21:25

a push-along walker thing with bricks [ds]
a cute mini-bench (bought on impulse for ds to sit on in garden in summer, now lives in hall) [ds]
swimming gear [me and ds]
finished library books [mine]
pair of my shoes [mine]
reusable shopping bags [everyones!]
bag of ball-pool balls that were being given away and need a good clean [ds]

must be something of dh's out there but can't see as light's off...
