Have you ever cleaned mould off shower tile grout?

And if so, what did you use? Our shower is really revolting. I usually use Cif and it's reasonably but not completely effective so I have years worth of black, brown and red mould on the grout. I want to clean it and then have them re grouted with a darker grout, or find another solution that I am am not constantly scrubbing the shower. Any tips??

Neat thick bleach and an old toothbrush is my failsafe. Leave it on for a few hours or preferably overnight

Dettol mould and mildew remover. Spray and leave on for hours

MrsMotherHen · 27/05/2017 12:51

cilit bang mould remover is amazing stuff!

Ginger782 · 27/05/2017 12:54

A high pressure cleaner on it's lowest setting. No joke. Ran the hose in through the bathroom window. Blast along all of the grout lines to dislodge the mould from the grain of it. Then come through the shower and clean as normal.
Disclaimer: this was a rental property with some serious mould that wouldn't budge. Given how well this method worked, I'd totally do it again!

Ginger782 · 27/05/2017 12:55

Christ MrsMotherHen I thought that said something else. Blush

Another for Dettol mound and mildew remover, can't beat it. We have a wet room, I spray it on and leave it for a few hours then rinse it all down and it's gone!

Milton!

I think the best thing about having kids is that I've discovered Milton. Flipping marvellous stuff. Makes everything lovely. I put it on kitchen roll and press it into mouldy parts of the shower, but it would probably work I'd you can attach the kitchen roll to the walls somehow... Maybe lying the sheets flat so they sucker to the wall?

Bleach. I know it is considered the devil's own liquid, but it does the job.

PinkFluffyChickenTrousers · 27/05/2017 13:07

Dettol mould and mildew remover. Excellent stuff - spray on and leave for a few hours it will shift it. I had a similar mould problem and tried lots of other stuff prior!

AstrantiaMajor · 27/05/2017 16:21

First a word of warning to keep windows open when you do this . Soak toilet roll in bleach and stick it over the mould. Leave it to dry. As it dries the mould seeps into the loo roll.

HG

NotTheDuchessOfCambridge · 27/05/2017 16:57

Dettol M & M remover, amazing stuff. Leave windows open though and if you are cleaning the rest of your kitchen/bathroom leave it as the last thing you do so you don't stay in the room.

forfucksakejanet · 27/05/2017 17:00

HG. This stuff is amazing!!

2ManyDicksOnTheDancefloor · 27/05/2017 17:01

Another vote for HG. I've tried bleach and the Dettol mould remover and by comparison they are totally shit.

donkir · 27/05/2017 17:04

I just use any bathroom spray and an old toothbrush.
