Tort Buttermilk pretty easy to find in NI as it's used in loads of Irish recipes like soda bread (I nipped out to local shop for a pint of it!). Not sure how easy it is to find in England, but maybe you would be able to get some in a large Tesco or Sainsbury's.

ludaloo · 19/02/2007 18:54

While we're on the subject of recipes, can I get the Lemon Drizzle cake one please Would love to give it a try!

tortoise · 19/02/2007 19:04

lemon drizzle cake
It fills a large roasting tin so reduce ingrediants if you want to make it smaller OR put some in a cake tin and make lemon fairy cakes with the rest. It freezes well too(so ive been told!)

12oz SR Flour.
9oz Sugar.
9oz Butter/Marg.
3tsp Baking powder.
6tbsp Milk.
4 Eggs.
zest of 2 Lemons.

Method.

Mix it all together in a large bowl, popit in a large roasting tin about 180 deg oven for 30-35 mins.(Check it cos different ovens cook at different speeds!) When it comes out the oven prick it with a fork.
Squeeze the juice from the two lemons. Heat in microwave for about 20secs. Spoon 3-4 tbsp over the warm cake. Mix the rest with icing sugar to taste. (or mix granulated sugar with cold lemon juice and poor over the cake for a crunchie topping!

Thanks tort
Think I'll try to make one tomorrow - sounds yum!

Jelley · 19/02/2007 19:14

I am not looking aT that recipe. DP is constantly on at me for making too much sweet stuff as it is.

For tea the dc had chicken, rice and peas. I had flap jack

DS is asleep in bed already (he has a temp). DDs played really nicely all day, and I got quite a bit done.
I bought child locks. May have a go at fitting a couple tonight. I also moved all ds' books up a shelf to stop him tipping them all on the floor. Hopefully by the time he's grown enoughto reach them he will have discovered a new game.

Evening everyone you busy bees .
No long list of achievement here today sorry.Have been up since 5 am DD1 woke up unable to breathe so i changed her trachy tube and she was fine but wide awake.
Got washing up to date but still need to put it all away ,one of my least favourite chores.
Went to hospital for dd1 appointment but waste of time as the nurse and playlady both off sick seems to be a lot of bugs about at mo.{{hugs }}to all you that are poorly and lo's who are also ill.
Did a big shop at Asda after hospital.DD1 fell asleep minute i parked, had to buy a cushion to prop her up in the trolley so 2 yr old got to walk round- well run around and hide alot to be accurate lol.
Just had a nice dinner of steak and chips with peppercorn sauce yum.Washed up and gave kitchen a quick clean .Need to mop floors still, then have a quick 15 min tidy of living room. All other jobs will have to be carried over to tomorrow.

glitterfairy · 19/02/2007 20:18

ludaloo it was wonderful and she is 12. I have promised them all that on their 12th birthday they can do this and I try to save at least one treat for them individually each year. Being a single mum it can be hard to manage this but I have great friends who help me.

Have a mountain of washing now to put away so am off to do that.

Hello elliehsmum
