Siemens or Miele washing machine?

We are in the process of buying a new freestanding washing machine. We've been told that the Miele washing machines, although expensive, can easily last 15 years. On the other hand I've heard good things about the Siemens models. I'm more tempted by the longevity of the Miele I guess, but does anyone have first hand experience of these machines? We would be looking at one with around a 8kg capacity, good guarantee and a really quick, quick wash facility!

I have Miele washing machine. LOVE this washing machine. It is so quiet on spin, even on a normal programme - I haven't even tried the "quiet" setting yet! Washes well and does exactly what it says on the tin!

I would have said Miele for the past few years but I am properly furious at their crap customer service.
A two year old machine with a recurring fault, I have yet again been without a machine for three weeks while waiting for an engineer.
The one booked today didn't turn up.

They don't give a shit that I spent £1400 on a machine or have 3c and am shlepping to the laundrette every other day.

Miele tumble dryer has been faulty too.

Mind you, they offered me a £75 Miele voucher which will go approximately nowhere towards one of their new ridiculously overpriced and unreliable new models.

My friends all love their Bosch machines.

Have always had Miele until this year when the cost of a minor repair (door latch replacement) was so expensive it was pointless spending that much on a 12 year old machine.

Bought a top of the range Samsung and love it - it sings me a song when the washing is dine. And it cleans at least as well as the Miele.

Oh god, looked like a straight win for Miele there until I carried on reading down the thread! So looks like the machine itself is great but if anything does actually go wrong you're a bit buggered with their customer service and part costs...

Another vote against Miele, bought all built in appliances and washer. Problems with everything, they weren't good with customer service either. Not worth the money.
I went with Bosch for dishwasher and washingmachine after ripping out two yr old crappy miele stuff, and they are great.

I broke my brand new Miele a few weeks after getting it
The engineer came out on a day convenient to me and fixed it with no cost to me
I have had years of crap washing machines and love my Miele

This is a DM that I sent them on twitter today as I had been corresponding with them through twitter and on the phone.

They have not even had the courtesy to reply.

I had an engineer booked in by Miele today. I rearranged my week, put my dog in kennels so that I was free all day for the engineer.

I have spent in the region of £200 in the launderette and on service washes, £30 on kennelling the dog.

I have three children, one with a disability.
I bought a Miele because I thought that it was reliable. It has continually let me down.

This latest saga has been going on for three weeks.

I called Miele today to find out what time the engineer would be with me.
The customer service department at first said that there had been a 'mistake' and that the appointment had been moved without telling me.

Then the planning department said that I was accidentally told it was the 23rd instead of the 25th.

This is beyond unacceptable, I asked for some of my costs incurred back and was offered a £75 voucher to spend with Miele!

Utterly insulting, I never will buy Miele again.

I am going to take this through the small claims court now, it is completely wrong to treat customers in this manner and assume that they should bear the cost of faulty appliances.
The machine should have been replaced last year.

Oh this is a definite case of mixed reviews... I'm now thinking siemens (or the tuneful one mentioned up-thread!) in the fear that I won't have to remortgage and have a lot of stress if something did go wrong. Your opinions are really appreciated on this.

Pooky, i certainly know alot of disgruntled Miele owners, there are lots of them. I would definately save your money on this one.

I'm very pleased with my Siemens washer. 8 kg drum and 1400 spin. It does a 30 degree quick wash in 15 mins and says goodbye when I switch it off! My previous Siemens lasted for 10 years with no problems.

We have a Siemens. It's over 10 years old. Has had its brushes replaced but survived a house move and at least one wash a day for the last 9 years. I love my washing machine.

Hmm we have an ancient Miele washing machine which is amazing (at least 12 years old), it's worked very hard on a daily basis without a problem.
However we recently bought a Miele dishwasher and it's been ok, but the quality is definitely not as good as the washing machine, we have had a few niggles with it already and it was very expensive compared to other makes. Not sure I would buy Miele again unless it was at a very good discount.

I have 3 washing machines of various ages. All Siemens and never had a problem with any of them.

I bought a Miele washing machine and tumble dryer 9 years ago. The washing machine has in fairness been fine, but I'm not sure on reflection it's any better than a much cheaper one would have been.

The tumble dryer on the other hand was totally shit. The guarantee was only 2 years, it broke after 2 years and 2 months. The customer service is crap and unbelievably expensive. It cost over £200 just to get them to come out to look at it. They fixed it but it broke again in a few months. We then spent a couple of years nursing it and working around its foibles e.g. having to keep switching it off and on again every few minutes as it always thought the clothes were dry.

After a while we decided to cut our losses and bought a Beko machine that cost £209 with a 2 year guarantee, thinking it was less than a single Miele engineer visit and even if we bought a new one every 2 years we would still be up.

We have had the cheap Beko machines me for 4 years and it's been better than the Miele ever was.

My advice would be: buy a cheap one with a decent guarantee and save your money for buying something nice and more exciting!

I've had my Miele for 4 years, its hammered, its washed a selection of unusual things as well in this time and its still plodding on and looking like a brand new machine. In those four years, its only needed one repair and that was a seal, it tore when DS accidentally got a top stuck between the door seal and the door and the machine spun and resulted in the tear, this was swiftly rectified by Miele and I have been perfectly satisfied with my machine. I'd say have a look at Miele IMO

Our Miele washing machine has worked perfectly for 19 years without any problems. I believe that the latest models are not so good, and that the other German makers have improved their reliability,
