A carrier bad of DVDs
Small bag of books
A box of kids toys
Rag bag stuff
Carrier bag of carrier bags
All sat in the boot of my car ready to be dropped off at the charity shop tomorrow.

So happy (really sad I know).

I am almost at the decluttering tipping point. Anyone else?

another five books to charity
one book to friend's daughter
some carpentry equipment (okay made an arrangement for someone to take them, they are still in the house alas)
3 bags of household rubbish to the tip

mypropertea · 13/12/2016 06:35

A breast pump and associated small bottles.
2 hats.

MardAsSnails · 13/12/2016 07:30

I'm doing a bin bag a week at the minute, so every Saturday morning I'm going round with a bin bag and a box.

This weekend will be bedding and curtains - I have a box of curtains from when we moved into this house 4 years ago that didn't fit. Some of the weren't even used at the last place we were in for 4 years. I can now get to the box as it has been lurking behind Christmas deccies.

Spare room drawers will be attacked with the box (for donation) and bag (for bin). I've done it 3 times and each time I find more stuff.

MardAsSnails · 13/12/2016 07:33

I also did the 'out of date food' run a week or so back. I had 6 wall units full of tins, packets, cereals, crackers etc - all long life store cupboard stuff.

I was left with 3 weetabix, 2 tins of beans, and a box of grissini. Oh and a bag of paella rice.

A few things had expired before we moved. In 2012.

knittingwithnettles · 13/12/2016 15:58

a rusty push lawnmower
rattan drawers
carpentry stuff went!
a child's dress I made myself
a candle that was horrible
quinoa that was out of date by 3 years
lentils out of date by 2 years
food compost (in compost bin)
an old Moses basket 12 years old and very manky
2 moses basket mattresses also 12 years old

should have given away Moses basket years ago..a bit sad really, now it is of no use to anyone

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 13/12/2016 16:26

Playmobile pirate islands x2
Kids guitar
Little people tractor
Little people cars and trucks
Ebay ELC robot and rocket, if they don't sell charity shop for them also

mypropertea · 13/12/2016 21:16

A jumper

mypropertea · 14/12/2016 10:22

A buggy and a hat

LittleWingSoul · 14/12/2016 21:29

Ooh I can add to this! Sorry it's on a Brita thread too.

Breadbin
Tea/coffee/sugar tins
Utensil pot
Matching cake tin
2 x net food cover parasol type things (but the non-collapsible ones so take up loads of space)
3 x Ceramic bakeware (have moved to enamelware - less bulky and breakable!)
3 x muffin/Yorkshire tins
Wooden salad bowl
Wooden chopping board
Banana tree (for hanging bananas on)
5 x unhappy succulents/orchids with no flowers on and their corresponding quite large pots)
3 x storage boxes with things that easily found other home/charity shop/bin

Brita water filter may be next...!

Nothing like an imminent house move to get the decluttering juices going!

Mybeautifullife1 · 15/12/2016 09:49

A box of DVD cases. Decided to store DVDs in a case instead. Takes up much less room!

OP posts:

2 empty DVD cases
I rubbish DVD

Has anyone just got a skip ? For me getting all the stuff to charity/recycling centred is a real pain as I live in a rural area and have a v small car.....is it v ungreen to get a skip?

Mybeautifullife1 · 18/12/2016 05:24

Another20:. Do none of the charity shops near you collect? Or free cycle. Or Facebook with car load offered for car boot... I know it's not very "green" to skip stuff but if it's a choice between landfill and it just being left to "rot" in your home, just skip it! Getting rid of stuff makes me more conscious of what I'm bringing into our home in the first place.

I got 2 skips a couple of months ago. We were having some work done and needed a small one but I got a gigantic one and got rid of loads of rubbish from the garage. We filled it really quickly and had stuff left over so we got another!
My house is still a mess though. I did an initial Kondo a year ago and have been off on maternity but still not got round to finishing. Still got the first two weeks of January off and will have my daughter in nursery so will have another clear out then. If I don't do it then it will never happen once I'm back in work!!!

sandgrown · 18/12/2016 07:07

Hosting Christmas Day . Need to start!

another20 · 18/12/2016 19:38

a bike,
4 too small cycle helmets,
a broken ironing board,
a whole bin-liner of odd, too small or holey socks,
5 coats,
bin-liner of too small or scruffy white school shirts,
bin liner of shoes
6 back packs, school bags etc
bin liner of clothes
.....that was about 50% of the utility room (we dont have a garage or a loft)
.....am on a roll now
.....was exhausting -- but sooo fulfilling
......you can tell I have not de-cluttered for a while.

Next steps:
-- two full height shelves of shit in utility room,
-- years and years of paperwork in a spare bedroom
--- mess in my bedroom
---kids wardrobes

Realise that I have hoarder tendencies - which means the place is cluttered and it really stresses me out. Have neen "churning" for years trying to sort and store in different places and in different ways around the house - which is time consuming and does not create tidy -- needed to have been chucking out stuff much more frequently. Can across brand new stuff that I had forgotten I had bought and have since bought more of it....so much waste.

Mybeautifullife1 · 23/12/2016 17:58

3 large boxes of RC that have been in my dining room forever. Feels good to be rid.

OP posts:
Mybeautifullife1 · 26/12/2016 20:29

Lots of scratched DVDs
Boxes of half finished craft kits
Various games with bits missing
Bag of (seriously) out of date food
A cadburys cream egg that I found under the dresser

OP posts:
pklme · 26/12/2016 20:33

Busy day, well done!
I have a small bookshelf of books that will be going as soon as the visitor in that room moves on. Also several bags of clothes which will be sold for rags for a charity.

PenelopeFlintstone · 27/12/2016 01:00

I'll join in, please. I'm off out to lunch today but I'll start tomorrow. I'll start in my office as I'm pretty sure I stuck some bills in there with other papers tidied up from around the house. I'm wondering now what bills haven't been paid too. Pretty sure there's a driving licence renewal, boat registration renewal missed deadline - with probable fine. Not sure what else. (I'm English but currently in Oz, and it's not flash here to have a little boat. Not much else to do!)

pklme · 27/12/2016 07:22

Today I am getting rid of... Four in laws!
Which means I'll be able to carry on stripping their rooms of clutter.
Am I ready to get rid of all the bead necklaces I don't wear much?

Dreamingoutloud7 · 29/12/2016 20:49

Yesterday:
3 bags of bottles from bathroom

Today:
Old tv
Broken monitor
Old sky box
3 bags of clothes

TheFutureMrsB · 29/12/2016 21:16

Tried to get rid of a gazillion cardboard boxes but the skip yard was full, try again tomorrow.

It's difficult to sort and tidy when I have cardboard mountain taking up the car and the passage Blush
