Welcome all - and thanks to CotswoldStrife for leading us through May. It's going to be a momentous month on the political front, but this is where we can concentrate on the domestic front instead.

If you are struggling with C.H.A.O.S. (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (Something That Undermines Family Fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own unique, relaxed style) with lots of support and chat along the way.

Link to the Flylady website Flylady

Don't let the somewhat sickly and barftastic language of the site put you off: the underlying system is sound!

This little-and-often system is designed so that you can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in zones of the house which are designated weekly; defining and minimising housework; which in theory should leave you with loads more time to do something more interesting instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling when you are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once. No problem if you miss a day or two; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again!

It's up to you, but we advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be swamped with masses of bumph. All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 minutes a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

** And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.

There are three key points to keep in mind throughout:

  • No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine and many of us on this thread struggle with this one.
  • You are never behind - just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
  • It didn't get into a mess overnight - it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things.

If you are new; then trying to spend 15mins decluttering daily and doing the babysteps is a good way to start. Some of us (mentioning no names!) can have scary looking ‘ta-da’ lists but don't let that worry you. Do what you can, anything is better than nothing, and don't judge yourself against others.

If all else fails, a brew + the power of three technique + a bit of support on here can work wonders!

Here's the launch pad for more experienced fledglings Launch Pad

Oh and don’t let it put you off if we appear a bit cliquey, we really aren’t! . Some of us have been on here for years and some of us natter rather a lot – but all lurkers, intermittent returnees, oldies and newcomers are very, very welcome!

Brew and Chocolate for everyone. Such a weird atmosphere, no one's really talking about it at work, it's like the elephant in the room.

On the plus side the weather has improved and I got two loads of laundry on the line before setting off.

CotswoldStrife · 24/06/2016 12:56

DD very tearful this morning and worried about daddy's job (he travels to Europe a fair bit most years so she knows that is a large part of their business). I actually got a bit tearful watching Cameron speak (I am not a Boris fan) and I was thinking of you SC. A baffling result to me.

This morning have done school run, been to the dentist, done some shopping and need to get on with the costume for tomorrow. I'll be putting some wine in the fridge shortly Sad

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 24/06/2016 20:38

I'm writing today off, so tired after thunderstorms on Wednesday night and watching the referendum this morning from 4. We've had a nice evening, all been down to the archery club together, and home now for pizza (and stepping away from all social media/news). And my washing got dry Smile.

Sad here too.

DD had a brilliant birthday though thankfully. Party tomorrow.

Slingcrump · 24/06/2016 23:01

Wine Wine Wine Wine Wine

BlueEyeshadow · 24/06/2016 23:20

Thanks, SC - same to you!

CotswoldStrife · 25/06/2016 00:08

Belated birthday wishes to your DD Cag. I have indulged in cheese and wine, which has slowed progress on the costume. Never mind!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 25/06/2016 13:20

The only thing good about things atm is angry cleaning. Half way through blitzing my office/craft room. Had to take a break as the dust is horrific in the there Shock and I needed to get a face mask ShockBlushHmm. At least a good chuck of the dust is building work related but still Sad

Some one send more tissues

FoolandFitz · 25/06/2016 14:49

Hi everyone

Work has been extremely busy - we had an external reviewer come in on Friday and we've been trying to make sure everything was shipshape. Anyway, the review went well, she gave us a big thumbs up and said she found it hard to say what could be improved (but gave us a few things anyway) and particularly remarked on what she saw of my work and said it was fantastic - in front of everybody so I was so chuffed. My line manager gave me "well done" hug afterwards. Smile

Anyway, I almost forgave the reviewer because earlier in the day she had been going on about the results of the referendum and was very vocal about it - and so opposite to my views that it made me cross but I, obviously, wasn't going to talk politics with her. Breathe.

I have not done much flying. Very basic stuff - tidying up after myself, getting DS to tidy up after himself (DP is super tidy) and morning and evening routine, cleaning bathroom and kitchen. Oh, and sharing laundry duties with DP.

CotswoldStrife · 25/06/2016 22:46

No flying here today, and a bit of craftermath after the costume production (pretty easy, nothing complicated). Have one bit still to work out finish but the main bit is OK even though DD thinks it needs 'accessories' Hmm

DD seems to be going down with another cold, woke up with a sore throat and her snuffles are getting worse. I am hoping that the calpol and a rest day tomorrow will stop her getting a bad cold.

Well done on the review FoolandFitz. Einstein building dust is the worst - you can wipe everywhere down at night, but when you come down in the morning there is a thick layer of dust everywhere. It takes ages to settle!

Greymalkin · 26/06/2016 08:16

Hi all,

Well done on all that positive feedback FoolandFitz - its great to be appreciated and valued.

How was archery WhoKnows? I haven't been able to shoot for months :(

Cag did your DD have a good party? And did you survive it?!?

Blue - how is your fur-ball? Do you still have curtains?!

What costume are you making Cotswold?

< Waves to *Toffee, SC, Einstein, StillLiving, MadSprocker, Kruckshany, Dogs, Mercury, Honu, Ellie - and sorry to those of you I have forgotten to mention >

My DS has been quite poorly, doctor prescribed several (foul-tasting) medicines which are not easy to persuade him to take. He does seem much better already though, and we have a friend coming round to play this afternoon.

I've been decluttering in the loft these last few days. I was starting to panic a bit about the amount of clutter we still have what with the house move. I brought down a load of, well, rubbish! Why on earth we decided to keep some of that stuff I do not know. Some bits I have sold, others are boxed up for the charity shop and the rest will go to to tip. There is still a fair bit to do, but no where near as bad as I thought. I absolutely do not want to move rubbish, junk and clutter with us to the new house.

I've also had a number of quotes from removal companies which although are a little pricey, DH and I have agreed that it will be essential for professionals to do part, if not all of it for a number of reasons.

Next thing to do move-wise is to organise a full structural survey on the new house and start completing the solicitor's paperwork.

It's all feeling real now! Soooooo excited!!!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 26/06/2016 08:27

Archery was a bit short lived as it started raining. It's only DD and DH that take part, DD took her friend along and spent half the time with her in the neighbouring play area, DS played football in another adjoining area and I took my crochet and watched. DD is generally very keen though and is going to every session she can, DS likes going along too as it's the only park in the area with full sized goal nets, so even though we're not all in the club it's nice to go down there together.

I'm on my phone at the moment, will get the computer on and do some links in a minute.

Exciting about your move Grey and such a good reason for decluttering. Hope your DS continues to improve. Hope your DD feels better soon too Cotswold

Well done on the review FoolandFitz. And here, have some tissues Einstein, and an industrial hoover for that dust.

We had a bit of a blitz on the house yesterday, but everyone was in and out all day. Had lunch out with DD which was nice.

Links for Sunday

Babystep - you are not behind

Sunday is renew your spirit day.

Sneak peek - no mission as it is Sunday, but going into next week we will be in the Living Room.

And on Thursday it will be July! Last year we opted for Flylady-Lite in July and August, with the main links posted at the top of the thread instead of daily as so many are away during this time, I'm happy to set a similar thread going again for July?

MadSprocker · 26/06/2016 09:49

Hello all.

We had a day out yesterday, so very little flying. The one thing we did was to put washing out, only to come home to find it dripping, so it has gone on a spin cycle in the washing machine.

Really busy day today and looking after a dog who is scared of the sound of heavy rain.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 26/06/2016 11:53

Good grief don't scare me like that Whoknows I have far too much to do before July Shock
Doing stuff with ds, sort of mostly just having wooden sword fights and talking about exercise type stuff. Confused Not exactly the tidying his room up that I had planned but nice to not have to shout.Hmm

Cagliostro · 26/06/2016 12:15

I'm happy to have/set up a lite thread next month, TBH I've not been Flying properly anyway Blush.

DD's party went brilliantly! It was the first time we've ever had a hall/entertainer type party so it was a bit scary, but it went smoothly in the end. The animal handler was amazing. I was brave and held a hissing cockroach! :o It's actually kind of cute close up.

Going to book DS' party soon, his birthday isn't until August but I've seen how stressful it was trying to sort DD's out last minute. He only wants a bowling party (big groups not really his thing) so that'll be easier and cheaper, the only difficulty will be sorting the guest list (lots of shared friends with DD, siblings etc).

Haven't caught up on anything for a while, internet is being really sketchy and I am frequently shouting at the computer! Blush Angry But the good thing is, while I was unable to sleep last night I started sorting out loads of old photos. As in several years old, some even before DD was born! I'm properly naming/numbering them and deleting all the rubbish/blurry ones that shouldn't have even made it as far as the computer anyway.

Housework has not happened at all, should really catch up with the laundry etc but I'm still feeling really rough. Wheezing a lot and very achy. DH is on a late shift but is thankfully off tomorrow (and we're having my DSCs round for the last of the birthday festivities - a family game night - DD requested lasagne so I'll be making one while DH tidies up).

FoolandFitz · 26/06/2016 17:00

I was brave and held a hissing cockroach!

Cagliostro · 26/06/2016 17:06

Looks like I made the right decision not to post a photo of the little guy then? :o I am seriously proud of myself anyway. I was all a-tremble, but realised that some of DD's friends were merrily holding them, and I thought oh FFS go on then. I stroked one first and realised it actually just felt like a tortoise shell or something. I had to look away for a bit while she placed it on my hand though! We're going to a home ed creepy crawlies workshop next month, at least I know I'll be able to hold one thing. Not sure about potential tarantulas though...

Cagliostro · 26/06/2016 17:07

Oh and in related news, since the party I am even more determined to one day have a pet gecko :o
