Welcome all - and thanks to CotswoldStrife for leading us through May. It's going to be a momentous month on the political front, but this is where we can concentrate on the domestic front instead.

If you are struggling with C.H.A.O.S. (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (Something That Undermines Family Fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own unique, relaxed style) with lots of support and chat along the way.

Link to the Flylady website Flylady

Don't let the somewhat sickly and barftastic language of the site put you off: the underlying system is sound!

This little-and-often system is designed so that you can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in zones of the house which are designated weekly; defining and minimising housework; which in theory should leave you with loads more time to do something more interesting instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling when you are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once. No problem if you miss a day or two; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again!

It's up to you, but we advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be swamped with masses of bumph. All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 minutes a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

** And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.

There are three key points to keep in mind throughout:

  • No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine and many of us on this thread struggle with this one.
  • You are never behind - just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
  • It didn't get into a mess overnight - it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things.

If you are new; then trying to spend 15mins decluttering daily and doing the babysteps is a good way to start. Some of us (mentioning no names!) can have scary looking ‘ta-da’ lists but don't let that worry you. Do what you can, anything is better than nothing, and don't judge yourself against others.

If all else fails, a brew + the power of three technique + a bit of support on here can work wonders!

Here's the launch pad for more experienced fledglings Launch Pad

Oh and don’t let it put you off if we appear a bit cliquey, we really aren’t! . Some of us have been on here for years and some of us natter rather a lot – but all lurkers, intermittent returnees, oldies and newcomers are very, very welcome!

ah, you people and your long lists!

I... put another wash on
and let the kids bathe themselves and get the bathroom floor soaked as they were messing about
and let them make themselves sandwiches as dinner was beyond me
and gave up trying to find the hairdryer

I'm going to do editing now as I've been sent another manuscript. Should've done it yesterday. FAIL

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 16/06/2016 22:13

Caglistro you have to read my list properly. Most of it has been accomplished whilst watching things on the computer. Multi-tasking the planning stuff with fun stuff. Very little actual cleaning and tidying on my list today. And tbh it should have also have included dye part of arm blue without knowing how. Grin the day my lists only include cleaning and tidying things is the day that you know to send a rescue party Blush

No long lists here! Haven't even been to the tip yet!

Have got a fair bit done today, that may be related to staying off the internet. Will do this again tomorrow. In fact, I may even do another batch of washing up before bed rock and roll

Cagliostro · 16/06/2016 22:35

Ah but the fact you even had more than two items on there means it's still marvellous to me Einstein :o

I've done half an hour editing so far. Tired

Cagliostro · 16/06/2016 22:36

As for the arm dying thing :o

I think I posted earlier that I managed to spill milk on my jeans earlier, well this evening I spilled my dinner on my other pair! Fucksake. :o

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 16/06/2016 22:40

No long lists here either, as usual the day seems to have consisted of work, ferrying DCs around everywhere, finding various bits of uniform, kit, things needed for Scouts. Managed to fit in half an hour at the allotment too, laying down slug traps amongst other tasks. Got home just before torrential downpour struck.

I have sorted through a pile of paperwork tonight though. And backed up my phone

All I can say is. BLAH.

Off to a friend's this morning, way too tired but feel like I've been too flaky lately and have cancelled on them before. Will remember in future to promise less.

Going to stick a wash on before we leave, DH can hang it out before he goes to work.

BLAH.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 17/06/2016 12:17

BLAH is a very good word today.

i have a huge to do list and i just don't want to do anything. So i haven't this morning.

to do
Work way through laundry mountain
Put bedding on my bed (slept on sofa last night - opps)
pack ds' stuff
move stuff out of one area into another
drop ds off
put clothes away
early night

Ikea run needed for bits forgotten the other day

coffee please send coffee and an army of minions. need help to get everything sorted for monday. arrrrrrrrrrrgh

Greymalkin · 17/06/2016 15:27

Afternoon all,

Hope your catch up with friends is the tonic you need Cag

StillLiving - flying with little ones often feel like a pointless exercise doesn't it?!

Who sorting paperwork definitely counts as flying!!

Einstein are you on a coffee high yet?!

TaDa
Fed cats
Took DS to nursery
Made beds x2
Two wash loads done and hung up
Third wash load on
Folded and put away random clothes
Hand washing up of pots and pans
Loaded car up with all kinds of crap from the garage, took to tip
Took crate of bits to the charity shop
More decluttering in garage
Made some phone calls
Started updating out business accounts
Sold a load of stuff on Facebook, most of which has been collected too

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 17/06/2016 15:45

Nope the potential coffee high has been cancelled out by the omfg whose bright idea was this anyway and why does life conspire to make it a flipping challenge to succeed. Hmm Ds is about to head off for the weekend which means I have some peace, although I am not even going to consider my to do list right now. Horrific doesn't even cover it.

Ta da
5 loads of washing
7 boxes removed from loft for sorting and getting out of builder's way
my bed is covered with half sorted stuff

Yep still haven't managed to put clean bedding on it and I will probably just steal ds' bed tonight because I really can't be arsed to move everything off it tonight and only to put it back on it tomo morning.
Tempers around here are very very frayed. Very frayed. And the hot sticky it needs to thunder kinda weather needs to fuck off about now cos it really isn't helping.

Anyhow I now have a nice 5hr drive to take my mind off things so see you all later. There may well be ice cream or chocolate. Or just both. see y'all soon

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/06/2016 16:57

You need chocolate and icecream.its an order!

I gave so lacked motivation today.cat sat on me and I took nap,did s load wash and dry in but it still in dryer and CBA to even fold and put away.so humid its like walk through steam.not my thing at all. Suspect thunder and piasing down will occur while walk zoolets to choir practiseHmm

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 17/06/2016 20:38

No chocolate or ice cream sadly. But lots of moving things from the loft. Just 2 chests of drawers and then only some insitu tidying for that area. Then just my room and landing left to do. However, thanks to life there will be some urgent mending required and there is lots and lots of chaos that will need to be sorted. Think old toys/books/paperwork/and god knows what else. Am seriously considering being very very agressive with the culling but will have to see what happens and how it all works. Still haven't even looked at sorting my insurance out either. I think that either runs out at midnight or noon. I hope it is noon as it won't get done tonight so if it is midnight tonight I am screwed.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 17/06/2016 21:27

Phew insurance runs out sunday

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 17/06/2016 23:02

Tada!

Two loads of washing on line overnight (so it's bound to rain) - so that's the mission, as I don't have a garage, and DH decluttered the shed last week.
Supermarket shopping
2.5 hours at the allotment
Feed DCs
Go out for the evening

I didn't declutter car, purse, or go on a date night (I was out with DD and friends, so that doesn't really count).

We're off out early tomorrow for the day, going to London, so not much Flying, I have earmarked Sunday for a blitz on the house.

Have a safe journey Einstein

Hope you had a dry journey to choir practice Stillliving - the humidity has dropped a bit here now, but it was most unpleasant earlier in the week.

Grey - well done on the selling stuff, I always find that a bit stressful as it either goes totally smoothly or you get messed about for days.

*Caglio - BLAH to you too. Hope you had a nice meetup with your friend.

Links for Saturday

Babystep - read Flylady's 11 Commandments (I've linked to these rather than the Babystep.

No mission as it is a Saturday, but Saturday is Family Fun Day - does anyone ever click on the link to that and Sunday (pamper yourself day)? They seem fairly self explanatory and I haven't actually looked at them for years

Next week we move into Zone 4 - the master bedroom

OP posts:
CotswoldStrife · 18/06/2016 00:06

Seemed to spend most of the day in the kitchen washing up even though I did run the dishwasher as well! Carefully put all the dry laundry hung up away or on the ironing pile before hanging up today's bonanza.

I did link to some of the pamper missions last month, but tbh I have no idea how I came across them - must have been by accident! As for family fun day, there are a few things on tomorrow so it will be manic but hopefully fun as well.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 18/06/2016 07:18

The pamper missions are linked on the launch pad.

Morning.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 18/06/2016 07:47

I never actually go to the launchpad. I used to have the urls saved, then they changed them all, I just google Flylady Saturday or whatever now. But I have to say I don't read those two, ever.

Morning all.me and zoolets are head community cafe shortly.dd2 and I volunteering today-me in kitchen, she waits tables 9-1.30
Little zoo and ds take books and various amusements and are pretty well behaved.last week they all enjoyed the carpet bowls that were out,so finger x that's on the cards again, plus taking instruments to show choir master what they can do(cafe is at our church)little zoo and D's play guitar,dd2 flute.von trapp family had nothing on uscept they were exceptionally talented pity Alan's ears when thru let rip(they aren't awful, but I think he expect more than they capable of)Grin

Cagliostro · 18/06/2016 11:31

Seeing friends yesterday was nice. DCs had a great time as well. Then on the way home (after going to the park) realised that DS had to go to his Beavers sleepover! I'd totally forgotten! Blush But actually did pretty well with packing, sorting out train tickets etc, without getting into a panic. Quite an improvement for me.

FoolandFitz · 18/06/2016 12:15

Ugh! I wrote a long post but lost it.

Not many ta das to report - just basic routines and tidying (hot spots galore). I have been stressed due to roof leaking and trying to organise roofer to come out but of course they are all busy because it seems everyone's roofs are leaking. I would have enjoyed the endless thunderstorms if it wasn't for the leaking. Finally fixed though and the sun has decided to come out to celebrate!

I've also been busy trying to introduce a new behaviour style to manage DS - surprisingly takes a lot of brain power to think of the right things to say. I'm so busy thinking and saying what I am supposed to say that I am forgetting to smile at him to encourage him. Doh! Still, it is working so that's a plus.

sling I haven't forgotten about how I am losing weight. Will post another time. Smile

To Do:
Laundry as per usual
Dusting
General tidying, like taking recyling pile out to recycling bin, putting things back where they belong etc.
