Just noticed the old thread was full, so hope no one minds me starting the new one

I did this for myself.
I appreciate it.
Maybe that should be enough for me

Sonnet · 07/04/2016 19:40

Not had a bad day but wish I had achieved more....
Had a book cull and discarded 112 which considering I regularly get rid of books isn't too bad. Still need to organise those left though

Did all paperwork from its 3 places....
Sorted out all school files, text books and revision guides.
All this plus paperwork now nicely organised in one cupboard

Did CDs

Tomorrow morning I am going to colate ALL stationery from its 3 places and sort and organise that in the desk and printer station (9 drawers so more than enough room!)
That will leave 3 empty drawers in the dresser so it's on to sorting that plus the table linen....

Saturday is kitchen day

Sunday is towels and bed linen. DH has promised to put in 2 shelves into a useless cupboard so I am getting much joy imagining a lovely organised linen cupboard!

AlisonWunderland · 07/04/2016 19:54

I'm very impressed that Sonnet has a😠😶

AlisonWunderland · 07/04/2016 19:56

Oops!
Fat fingers!
.... has a planned timetable for Kondoing

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 07/04/2016 20:53

Konvert signing in...and climbing back on the wagon!!
I made a good start at KMing early last year and then lost momentum/motivation.
Everything feels like it's closing in on me again and I need to get a grip!!
I'm going to have to start from the very beginning because my clothes have got out of hand again.
I lost weight last year (put half of it back on Sad but finding my 5:2 mojo is also on my to-do list!!) and got rid of everything that I'd shrunk out of. My sister also lost weight last year (she was already smaller than me) and keeps passing on all her too small clothes to me but they are all way too small and not really my style. I know she is doing the classic sibling thing and I don't really have anything stopping me passing them straight on to the charity shop...except motivation!!
The only room to have remained reasonably clear is the bathroom.
Also, the sitting room is getting close but the whole of upstairs is a disaster zone.
I need a KM kick up the rear!!

AlisonWunderland · 07/04/2016 21:07

One postive thing is that despite 4 bin bags of clothes going Out, I feel like I actually have more clothes.
I have rediscovered old favourites and can now choose what to wear and know where to find it, rather than just putting on whatever I can prise out of the heap!

RedMapleLeaf · 07/04/2016 21:56

Hello Thread.

For some reason I've suddenly started Kondo-ing. I've sorted through my wardrobe and also stored away winter clothing. I did a few drawers of my work stuff yesterday and today I made a start on some kitchen categories.

stiffstink · 07/04/2016 22:24

I only have 4 days left to Kondo the paperwork if I am to meet my 14 day deadline. There was a lot of it (yet another 80L storage box) but I have set everything out in different categories and then kondoed each paperwork category eg removing all envelopes and pointless covering letters.

Lots needs tl be kept (tax returns for 3 individuals and 2 trusts) but the remaining box file is mainly DH's school reports so I'm confident I will complete paperwork by Monday night. Whoop!

AlisonWunderland · 08/04/2016 11:38

Hurrah!
DH asked this morning if we had any spare heads for electric toothbrush and looked impressed when I pulled out sectional tray from Cupboard containing them, (plus the 8 tubes of toothpaste, 6 packs of floss and 4 packets of interdental brushes....)
We are diligently using the weeny airline tubes of paste, the two middling ones are in overnight washbags, then we can start on the full size tubes!

GrubbyWindows · 08/04/2016 18:07

Alison I love it- you are treating it like a debt snowball (pay off the smallest debt first, then you have more money for the second smallest etc). A stockpile snowball!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 08/04/2016 19:09

Any suggestions for vertical plate storage?
This is my temporary measure but is a massive waste of space.

Someone on the "household crap that brings you joy" thread likes these

FireflyGirl · 08/04/2016 22:10

Not sure about vertical, but these are shelf inserts from Ikea. (They do them in Lakeland as well, for 4x the price!) I use these and the stacker Alison linked to. Means I can get to whichever set I want to use.

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 09/04/2016 06:13

Thanks, both.
I'll have a think about those Smile
The kitchen cupboards have only been in s week and I'm still trying to work out the best way to fill each one...it's all a little disjointed at the moment.

Sonnet · 09/04/2016 08:37

I have to have a timetable Alisinwunderland as off work and without youngest daughter so have uninterrupted time....
Yesterday went well and I stared the kitchen too. Need to finish that and do a tip/charity shop run as my car is rammed with a second load waiting in the garage!

Also need a food shop so that is today sorted.
Sunday is linen and towels.
Apart from the 2 teenagers bedrooms I will have sorted all major areas BUT I still feel I have got to go through each room and tweak it a bit. Anyone else feel like that?

Found another drawer of doom I had forgotten existed Blush still, at least I have a home for the random bits...

Babieseverywhere · 09/04/2016 08:40

Cleaned my car out yesterday. Took a while as it is a seven seater with many cars seats and toys to deal with. Took a while but I took everything out. Cleaned under all seats, hoovered etc.

She looked fab. Drove her to the shops. Thanked her for all the hard work she does carrying us all around. Feeling a bit of an idiot doing so and went into the shop.

When I got back to the car, right in the middle of the clean passenger footwell, was my missing car charger point.

I guess logically it must of rolled out of wherever it was stuck for the last six months but I like to think the car was grateful for being clean and produced it for me !

Off to sort dvds :)

AlisonWunderland · 09/04/2016 09:21

So your car thanked you back babies!

I feel I've done the kitchen (in that I've chucked and cleaned various cupboards) but I haven't really done it via proper Kondo methods. I think I need to do a proper check, and use that komono checklist which I have printed out.

Three silicone pastry brushes anyone? Blush

Babieseverywhere · 09/04/2016 09:30

Yes, my car thanked me back . Guess I will have to keep her clean and tidy from now on. :)

AlisonWunderland · 09/04/2016 10:35

Can I just say that Clarks shoe boxes make excellent drawer dividers.
My local branch are getting used to me.... "any baby shoe boxes please" yesterday (to subdivide the Drawer of Doom)

strangehumour · 10/04/2016 13:47

My book arrived and I'm 2/3rds of the way through and I have a realisation: I have stuff everywhere!

I think this has maybe been my problem all along. I feel like I've been chucking things out for 10 years but the house never felt any clearer.

As we're moving house soon I'm planning on doing a proper Kondo tidy when we unpack but I'm trying to do bits now too. I've had the idea that if I pack things by category instead of by room it will help me Kondo better when I unpack....but things are spread out everywhere! We have children's craft stuff in almost every room, the same for bags and books. I keep putting things in boxes and then finding more from the same category somewhere else. I think that if I wasn't packing I wouldn't be much good at step one: Get everything of the same category together. Anyone else keep finding stuff in unexpected/forgotten places?

AlisonWunderland · 10/04/2016 14:00

YY to finding extra stuff in unexpected places strangehumour!
7th and 8th packs of dental floss turned up today (in with sewing stuff and jewellery, naturally!)

But I have renamed the Drawer of Doom.
It is now....

AlisonWunderland · 10/04/2016 14:04

The Useful Drawer.
Elastoplast, scissors, tape measure, glue, batteries, pens...

Excellent drawer AlisonWunderland, I can only hope that one day to I too am the proud owner of 'The Useful Drawer'. Grin

stiffstink · 10/04/2016 16:52

I've had some success with DH's t-shirts and shorts. One bin bag for textile recycling and one bin bag for charity.

He wants to revisit shorts in the summer which is fair enough as he is joining SW to try to lose weight.

He put his shorts into FIVE categories! Five! Its shorts!

Swim, running, casual, denim and 'evening' haha!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 11/04/2016 11:34

Love the 'useful drawer'!!
I, too, hope to have one of my own soon Grin
Stiffstink - great progress!! I think my Ds would break shorts down into as many categories Grin
I have been to the tip this morning and deposited the last of my old kitchen. My boot is currently full of bags for the charity shop which I'll call into on my way home from softplay later.
I've spent most of the weekend trying to organise the kitchen after the new cupboards were fitted. Everything I want to keep is now in the cupboards but there are still a few bags of komono that need sorting and a few other jobs to be done before it's finished.
I have upcycled and relocated two of the old cupboards and was ridiculously delighted when I finished them off last night!!
