2016 is truly underway and maybe the New Year Resolutions have been forgotten please say it's not just me - never mind, it's a new month and a new start beckons.

Perhaps you have too much S.T.U.F.F. (Something That Undermines Family Fun) getting in the way. Or maybe you want to rid your house of C.H.A.O.S. (Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome)? Have no fear, the Fledglings are here! We are all learning to get into a routine for maintaining the household, so we have more time to enjoy life!

This is where, from the first of the month, we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady. We ignore the somewhat barftastic language, and also thoroughly recommend NOT signing up to the emails… unless you want your inbox full to bursting.

Here’s some basic info on getting started – but don’t worry, all will be revealed on a daily basis (assuming I get the links right…) so just jump in.

There are 3 basic stages:

  • Baby Steps – if you’re new, start here. Or if you’re coming back to us after a break (trust me, we’ve been there!) then these are good way to get back into it.
  • Repeat Baby Steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current room or 'zone' - yep, just 15 mins, it makes a difference!

and/or

  • Reinforce Baby Steps + do Daily Missions which introduce specific things to work on.

There are also detailed cleaning guides if you’re really crazy enthusiastic.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

knittingwithnettles · 10/02/2016 20:18

well, wait for it...I've done....Blush

Sent one dc to school first thing
drove ds2 to school
met friends for coffee (I organised this, which is good, not so confident at making arrangements)
sent two useful texts

had nap
spent from 2.30 till 7.10 driving to Parents' Eve, going to all appointments and driving back

dh cooked supper AND took dd to the dentist. I still feel like I'm exhausted.

Dd seems to be a Maths genius and much in demand from Art department. What a very strange world it is...her brothers are terrible at Maths confused] We are choosing her GSCE options and the History Department didn;t want her Blush She shows little interest in the subject so I'm not really surprised, whereas give her a historical theme in Art and she is completely inspired. She is choosing Textiles and Spanish and Geography along with all the usual suspects. And now grumpy with it due to such a long time trapsing round school corridors.

Just don't crash and burn - getting so much party shopping done is brilliant though. I live in fear of my next car scrape; I smashed an indicator light recently.

einstein you would have a field day repairing all the detached door frames in this house wrenched by door slamming teens! Well, at least it is not human flesh.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 11/02/2016 15:21

knitting we are missing big chunks of wall plaster as a result of door slamming. But you are very right. At least it is not people/flesh!

Been working on a never ending project. It is one that just needs finishing and decluttering into usage. I hate this project. But having just caked the yarny vomity mess of balls that it was in I am feeling better about it.

ta da
recieve internet order placed yesterday. Love this company!
sorted out present for nephew
fished ironing pile out of mount fold more
started folding mount fold more.

Hoping to get the folding and ironing away so that when I do the last few bits of washing tomo (I think 2 loads including bedding) I will be able to just have tidy real quick. I am getting the house to myself for a week. It is going to be bliss! Well it would be even more bliss without the delights of a long camhs appointment monday Hmm Never mind still got the luxury of being on my own schedule even so

to do
go pick up some veg for tea
cook tea
folding
Ironing
packing for ds to go away
cast on a present that I have a week and half to make (socks so hopefully will be ok time wise)
Swatch for above.

This seems realistic so fingers crossed it all gets achieved!

fuzzpig · 11/02/2016 15:51

Sorry for rubbish hosting. Been a tough few days.

So, it's 11th February,

Babystep here

Mission (remember we are in the kitchen) here

It's Thursday, which is Errand Day.

OP posts:
JustAName · 12/02/2016 08:35

Hope you are OK fuzz

I've kind of given up on the babysteps while I get the spring clean done - but I am being more aware of stuff like hotshots, picking up 'stuff' as you go past etc.

I am pooped. Absolutely pooped. Since my last post tho I have cleared out 'that' drawer in the kitchen. It now closes first time every time. I've also cleared out the stationery drawer in the lounge although that could do with a bit more work/rehoming.

My kitchen surfaces had a once over and the lounge has been hoovered. I spent 6 hrs doing a round trip to collect DP though yesterday so I just about managed a shower. It more than anything has exhausted me and I am still exhausted today.

I am going to sit and sort out the paperwork drawer tho later as that should be low intensity. DP had also bought home a car full of boxes of stuff - moving in gradually so that will need lugging around (he can't lift atm) and I shall be encouraging him to put it away!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 12/02/2016 09:11

Linkies because I know it is hard when life gets tough hope life is a bit better soon.

Friday is clean your car and purse out day!

Mission in the kitchen

Babystep is here.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 12/02/2016 09:22

All I can say is Whooo Hooo. My purse is ok. My car. Yeah my car is a whole different story. Gotta get that done.
Didn't get chance to do folding or ironing yesterday. There were people in the lounge doing stuff that took up all the room. But they are shortly heading out so will tackle it once I have done the birthday present shopping and picked up a circular needle for making those socks.

Just bloody good job you are doing. hope you recover from the drive quickly!

knitting hope life with the teenagers is ok atm.

SC hope you are ok with all you cross water adventures etc.

whoknows have you got half term too now? If you do hope you and the dc enjoy yourselves.

Since I last posted properly we have been doing all the medical appointments. All of them. To the point where departments have been complaining about missing notes and we have had to point out we have just been with another department and they were there. Hmm but that is now done. various issues confirmed, nose recauterised bloody nose bleeds and a few more to go before I get to have the list sorted for parents evening next month. I swear the teacher rolls her eyes, never stick to her schedule and have my own list. Grin tbf there is a lot similarities but as she doesn't believe ds' diagnosis it does mean sometimes we disagree.

Today is a massive day of errands and all of the tidying - like 1 mashoosive bliz of the house. I am going to have a tidy house this week with NO ONe putting stuff in the empty spaces. well except a craft project all over the lounge form but shhhh we won't mention that Grin

Hope you all have fabulous weekends

Skies are blue, sun is out

BlueEyeshadow · 12/02/2016 10:17

Not surprised you're exhausted, Just - take it gently!

After a bit of a faff getting it arranged, we now have a lovely shiny new hob and oven, usable light fittings throughout, and enough light in the kitchen to see by! Woohoo. Consequently, have been cleaning the rest of the kitchen to match. :)

fuzzpig · 12/02/2016 10:20

Aw thank you for that Einstein

Sorry I've been a bit useless, things have gone crazy here, long story but looks like DH will be out of his job by Monday, with none to go to (yet). And next week I have to meet with my boss and tell her that actually I'm not going to be well enough to go back at all.

So I'm sort of feeling that paralysed by fear feeling. IYSWIM. Can't really focus on anything. Will try to do some laundry and lots of my editing today as I'm behind and the deadline is looming.

OP posts:
YesEinsteinsMumDid · 12/02/2016 16:08

The quick shopping errand ended up taking the entire morning. And it has been trying to snow all morning. Car has just not happened Hmm.

Have managed to pack and get all folding and half the sock pile of doom dealt with.

In progress of taming the kitchen, and have a load of washing to transfer to the dryer.

Also tidied up some falling apart balls into cakes. The amount of static generated is amazing
Hopefully I can get the shredding pile of hell burnt Grin and thus the acrylic yarn can be put away properly. So that is my plan for later.

About to throw tea into child, shove stuff into car and head out into the hills for a few hours. It will be lovely. The sun is out, it is trying to snow and the ice will be fabulous Hmm

Did manage to get some pretty storage boxes whilst I was out which I am quite pleased with.

Oh yeah. Too much special brew, not enough sleep and rather excited in the prospect of peace and quiet for 6 whole days. 6.

Have a good evening.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 12/02/2016 16:12

Ah just to clarify, I meant falling apart balls of acrylic wool.

fuzzpig · 13/02/2016 01:02

It's after midnight (I've been up doing some more editing, and got some laundry on the go too) so here we go for Saturday:

Babystep 13

It's our last day in Zone 2, the kitchen, but no missions as it's the weekend. Saturday is Family Fun Day!

Enjoy it everyone. :)

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 13/02/2016 07:46

Yes, half term here now, started with an INSET day for DD yesterday which we had as a quiet, pottering sort of day. It's weird having the DCs at different schools with different days off now. Need to get up and get a bit of tidying done this morning.

Fuzz, sorry to hear about the job situation for you and DH, I hope DH finds something soon.

Einstein - you sound like a force to be reckoned with at the moment, hope you enjoy half term.

Allgunsblazing · 13/02/2016 07:59

I'm afraid I did NOTHInG this week. Well, apart from working about 60h. Normally I would take it easy, BUT, my house is so disgusting I can't bear it. Also, I get to have the saturday evening/night all to myself and I want it clean, tidy, I want to have a mini pamper session and just be able to relax. So today I shall be whizzing through the lot.

Allgunsblazing · 13/02/2016 08:00

Fuzz, sorry about your H's job and your health problems! Hope the sun will shine for you soon. 😊

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 13/02/2016 12:21

Sleep is a bit all over the place atm.
This week the plan is to:
finish off some sewed items that just need invisible stitching the turn points and things like poppers and buttons being added.
Finish ds' stocks
make socks for present
make sewn items for ds, me and mum (need to get fabric for mum's)
I also have a big project that I want to finish off.
I would like to finish off the 2nd big project but not sure how timing is going to work.

Mostly this week I am taking over the lounge floor with my big project. I need to piece it, make the last strip, and make the edging. However, today I am off out to find a yarn shop that has what should be so easy to find but appears to be impossible. Hmm

Greymalkin · 13/02/2016 15:23

< flutters into thread astride Dragon >

Einstein - 6 days of peace? Oh wow! not jealous in the slightest

Fuzz - fingers crossed for your DH, such a worry still

Knitting - exciting times for your DD choosing her options.

Blue - yay for new oven, are lots of lovely things coming out of it? I bought a big cast iron casserole pot this week and have been getting creative with new recipes.

Scatty - you have been busy Star

Just - have a rest whilst you're feeling so tired, hope you're feeling brighter soon

< waves to SC WhoKnows AllGuns Ellie Mercury Dogs Honu and everyone else >

It was DH's birthday yesterday so we had a day out whilst DS was at nursery. DS then slept over at in-laws whilst we had a big get together with friends which was great.

Ta Da list
Cleaned up last night's party mess
Gathered up all recycling
Loaded dishwasher, put on
Hand washing up
Wiped down table and placemats
Started first draft of my Masters application
Scanned all documentation for Masters application
Picked up DS
Top up shop at tesco
Polished Dragon 's scales ready for the Wales v Scotland game this afternoon

Fizrim · 13/02/2016 23:50

Hello all! It's my annual erm, one of my occasional visits to the thread! I will be better ...

Fuzz that sounds like a pretty stressful time, take it easy on yourself.

We have been busy. Mostly my fault, as I let DD do too much (clubs and stuff) and although we don't have a free weekend for ages yet they will calm down a bit after this weekend. And it's half-term, woo hoo! We are away next weekend and DD will be busy Thurs/Fri with something I let her sign up for with lots of practice needed during the three free days we have.

House is awful. Really need to get a grip on it. Horrendous.

I have wasted spent time each night this week writing out a post-it for DD and sticking it on her bedroom door when she is asleep. I saw a post about writing a message each day leading up to Valentine's Day with something you love about your child. This morning she called me up to look again at the one I'd written last night as I'd repeated myself! Blush Thankfully, I stuck the last one on her door tonight.

I arrange my MOT with Halfords - they have an online booking system if you don't want to use the phone, and it means you can pick the time and see what is available. I found booking online cheaper than the price they were advertising outside the branch too!

fuzzpig · 14/02/2016 09:27

Hi all!

Welcome back Fizrim :)

Just popping in with links:

Babystep no. 14 it's about calendars

No mission as it's Sunday, but we are now in Zone 3: bathroom plus one extra room

Sunday's focus is renewing your spirit. So do something nice for yourself :)

OP posts:
fuzzpig · 14/02/2016 09:30

And thank you all for the good wishes. DH is now on his one month's notice, which is obviously crap but it was the only option left. Anyway, he's got applications in and some interviews, so hopefully something will happen soon - but if not we've agreed that it will be the perfect opportunity to get the house sorted. So that's the silver lining, because it really really needs doing.

OP posts:
Akire · 14/02/2016 13:55

Should have read this thread before signed up to offical fly lady emails! 19hous and 11 emails later!! Have unsubscribed and will follow on here instead. I'm sure her purple clothes are marvellous but I don't want be offered them every 2 h !

Fizrim · 14/02/2016 21:37

The sales blurb takes your will to live, doesn't it? I appreciate that it's a free service but the testimonials are not a source of inspiration for me. Reading the book is much better (and why isn't it on clutter-free Kindle?).

Greymalkin · 15/02/2016 07:52

Good morning all - < waves to Fizrim and a big welcome to Akire >

We had a really lazy weekend and I feel like I need to get my arse in gear, but struggling with motivation.
DS is home today and I never feel like I can get on with stuff as I feel guilty about not playing with him. Plus what with it being half term now, all the places I would usually take him (zoo, soft play, museum) will be packed out and super busy which I hate.

I'm feeling a bit rabbit-in-the-headlights too; got lots of fairly big, important tasks to do but am procrastinating terribly! Need to review first draft of my Will and return to solicitor, complete the application for my Masters degree, update records and website for a club I belong to... arrrgh!!! So, I'll just make another cup of coffee and carry on researching bullet journals on Pinterest Grin

fuzzpig · 15/02/2016 09:39

Morning folks!
Busy day here. Loads to do. Too much! Will be staying at mum's tonight, but taking the laptop (meeting with author who lives near mum) so will still be around.

LINKS
Baby step no.15 here

It's Monday so the daily focus is the Home Bleugh

We are in the Bathroom (and one other room - DCs' room or whatever)

Here be the mission

Fizrim · 16/02/2016 00:00

Slept in this morning (bliss!), then went out in the afternoon so precious little achieved in the housework department today. May be in most of tomorrow though, so will have short bursts of activity when not playing with DD. She'd like to invite some friends round even though she said herself 'we don't have much time' (we are a bit over-busy this week) so we'll see if we can squeeze them in for a short time if she wants to. It will be up for discussion tomorrow!
