2016 is truly underway and maybe the New Year Resolutions have been forgotten please say it's not just me - never mind, it's a new month and a new start beckons.

Perhaps you have too much S.T.U.F.F. (Something That Undermines Family Fun) getting in the way. Or maybe you want to rid your house of C.H.A.O.S. (Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome)? Have no fear, the Fledglings are here! We are all learning to get into a routine for maintaining the household, so we have more time to enjoy life!

This is where, from the first of the month, we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady. We ignore the somewhat barftastic language, and also thoroughly recommend NOT signing up to the emails… unless you want your inbox full to bursting.

Here’s some basic info on getting started – but don’t worry, all will be revealed on a daily basis (assuming I get the links right…) so just jump in.

There are 3 basic stages:

  • Baby Steps – if you’re new, start here. Or if you’re coming back to us after a break (trust me, we’ve been there!) then these are good way to get back into it.
  • Repeat Baby Steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current room or 'zone' - yep, just 15 mins, it makes a difference!

and/or

  • Reinforce Baby Steps + do Daily Missions which introduce specific things to work on.

There are also detailed cleaning guides if you’re really crazy enthusiastic.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Good morning all,

How is miniBlue today? FX he is on the mend

And your back SC? Good for you btw, sticking up for equal rights for rabbits! (I have this image of you waving a placard from your lawn) Grin

How old is you DD Fiz? I hated the bitchy behaviour of pre-teens and teens at school, I really struggled to cope so I really feel for you both.

Last day of the month Knitting! You can go snuggle with Dragon who will keep you feeling toasty I'm sure.

My poor DS has an ear infection and is on antibiotics and the usual calpol/ibuprofen cocktail. He had a raging temperature all night and was in obvious pain, currently sleeping but is whimpering and twitching still :(

So I have very low expectations for doing much today that can't be done from the sofa.

However, in brighter news, I have been accepted onto the Masters course I applied for. So so happy about it! I start in October.

Ta da
Fed cats and DS
Made GP appt for DS
Took him to GP
That is all for now...

Forgot to add, I will post link for new thread this evening

How is everyone today? We've had a productive morning with home ed and some tidying. DCs having a play upstairs now while I rest on MN obviously and then after lunch we'll do more work and tidying.

X post, oh no Grey sorry DS is poorly :( it's horrible isn't it.

Weird thing my mum used to do for ear aches - she'd make a compress using a flannel or folded up kitchen roll, soaked in boiled water and lavender/tea tree oils. Then you lie on it with the bad ear if that makes sense. The heat was comforting although I guess it may not be for a young child?

Anyway, DCs are hungry so I'm going to shift my butt off the sofa and make some form of lunch.

Earache is grim, I hope the antibiotics work quickly on the infection. And congrats on the Masters success!

My DD is 9. I overslept this morning and made her late for school too Sad Can only improve from here on in hopefully

Hi all, intended to do something terribly interesting on this "extra" leap year day, but in reality it has been rather slow here, owing to state of back. It was an absolutely beautiful day though - bright and sunny - albeit a bit cold. Have filled dw, done some washing, perused recipe books, did an online shopping order, sat outside in sunshine surveying rabbits (while furry one was out on his walk) and then attempted to paint a crocus ... .

Forgot to make two important phone calls for some reason. (Brain is going to mush too obviously!)

Abandoned trying to throw an oaty, raisin, tray bake thing together for dd's lunches because too much bending was involved. Hopefully she will help me finish it later.

Blue hope your ds is feeling better!

Fizrim oh your poor dd - hope she is feeling less upset today - girls can be horribly cruel.

Grey So sorry to hear your ds is so poorly - sounds awful - hope the antibiotics kick in soon. Hope you can catch up on some sleep soon. Many, many congratulations about your masters course!! Sounds v exciting! And arf at placard waving - Grin liberty for lagomoprhs Grin!!

Grey/Fuzz my late ma used to warm olive oil very gently, then dip a wodge of cotton wool in to it, then put that in our ears when we had earache. It was v comforting.

Knitting I like the sound of your day yesterday (especially the roast cooked by others!!) and Flylady advises that we are not obliged to be tidying or sorting on a Sunday so you shouldn't mark yourself down for that!

As to screens, I have to confess to watching two episodes of Call the Midwife back to back while dh and dd were battling with geometry homework...although I got my come-uppance later when I had to help dd translate one of Caesar's letters from Latin in to to French and then had to revise basic science principles of separation and purification in Flemish (which was rather challenging for me as I have to go via English first, whereas dd goes straight there).

Simply cannot believe it is the last day of Feb. Where has the month gone? Shock

Big waves to all!

fuzzpig · 29/02/2016 16:32

Ahh Blush I forgot to say congratulations Grey :o well done! Star Curious as to the course subject but obviously don't expect you to say if it's going to out you. :)

Hope your day improves fiz

Funny that SC - DD and I had our first foray into Latin today. Very very very briefly mind you as I think the day's concentration supply was running low by that point (and tempers were frayed after they argued about magnetic letters of all things! Hmm). I remember virtually none of it from my one year of learning it in year 7 - I did enjoy it at the time though. I think DD will enjoy seeing the origins of modern English words, she loves playing with language. This morning during her reading she broke off to point out the book's incorrect sentence structure. :o

We managed a fair bit of home ed throughout the day though, with the pattern Learning/Tidying/Play/Lunch/Learning/Tidying/DVD. Have mostly cleared the tiny landing which was genuinely hazardous due to risk of slips and trips Blush and gradually more things are being put away where they belong. Having the schedule set out in the morning definitely helped (we don't do it by time, more 'once we've finished x and y then we will do z' so if they faff about it's their own time they're wasting :o). I've escaped upstairs and am resting again as DD's friend (neighbour) wandered in just as we were finishing the second tidying stint, so they're watching the DVD together.
