January Fledglings - Resolve to Fly!

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 31/12/2015 18:22

So, here we are at the start of 2016, poised with our control journals and ready to Fly for another year. New and old, all are welcome here, we loosely follow the principles of Flylady to manage our homes and lives, we also chat and lend an ear to whatever life throws at us.

We post links to the Flylady site each day throughout the month, with daily babysteps and missions inside that weeks zone. We also declutter. No links in this post, I'm on my phone and will do some separately, but it's time to get ready for 2016. A big thank you to everyone who has run the thread in 2015 and everyone who has contributed Wine.

It's a sleepover ,

I guess I'd best brew up then, you might well need it.

Well, so far so good. They have only just gone to bed, with all electronics taken out of the room, so hopefully they will get to sleep fairly quickly, they seem calm. We've got a bit of a tried and tested formula for this sort of party now, which makes it a bit less stressful. Also, DS has been fine, I was worried having a houseful of DD's friends for such a long stretch would stress him out too much, but he has been fine, dipped in and out of what they've been doing and been hospitable, helping them get drinks etc. I think the fact that he is only 2 years older but young for his age and DD is old for hers helps, she merges seamlessly into his parties too.

All clearing up is done, so I'm going to head off to bed too, in case they don't sleep well. Just time for a quick look at the links.

Spoke to soon, I can hear shrieks of laughter. This is where DS's patience might run out, the wall between their rooms is thin.

Quick Links for Sunday.

Daily Focus - renew your spirit, yes, I think I might need that one.

Babystep - the power of 15 (minutes), a good one this.

No mission on a Sunday, but the Sneak Peak link here should update at some point.

Zone 3. Next week we will be in Zone 3, bathroom plus one other. Here is the detailed cleaning list for Zone 3 detailed

How are you feeling the morning after Who? :)

I didn't really get much else done yesterday, so I'm feeling really disheartened today as well as achy. DH was going to take the DCs out to give me a break, but the weather is awful so not sure what will be happening. This is the kind of (rare) time when I really wish we had a car!

fuzzpig · 10/01/2016 10:28

Just reposting my to do list. Yesterday I did manage to pay my cheque in, and DCs put their clothes away.

to do
email word count of author's manuscript to publisher
do some editing
fill in research forms
look at bank forms for savings acct
wash on
fill in form for work
find out info for appt I missed
start packing toiletry bag which will stay at mum's
baths all round
plan thank you cards
online banking
update whiteboard for the next week
update diary
finish puzzle (counting this as renewing spirit)
play my new board game as a family
spend rest of Christmas money (the indecision is annoying me!)
figure out prescriptions
figure out when to pick up sick note

UGH

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 10/01/2016 10:29

All is well here thank you Fuzz, they carried on chatting away till midnight when I said "enough" and asked them to go to sleep as they were keeping me awake, then didn't hear a peep out of them till 8.30. They've had breakfast, one has gone home and the others will be off shortly, then I need to get stuck into laundry and studying. I'm guessing I don't live near you as the weather is beautiful here this morning, contrast with the foul wind and rain of yesterday afternoon/evening. I'm tempted to go up to the allotment for a bit.

Allgunsblazing · 10/01/2016 10:41

Went to the gym, that's my renewal for the day :) That, and the two croissants I've just devoured with a pot of hot coffee.
One of my resolutions is to try a new recipe once a month. Today is the day, I'll make 'something' (dunno what) new.
I made cinnabons yesterday.

So, I'm a bit behind with everything :)

fuzzpig · 10/01/2016 11:00

That's a relief Who :)

Just adding a couple more things to the list:

Hang out wet laundry when washed
Wash work clothes (DH ironing later)
DH washing up
Watch documentary with DCs, they've asked if neighbour can join us.
Remind myself to make doctors appt for DS (eczema - the cream we're using seems to be making it angrier?! :()

Going to make a picnic with DH now, as the DCs enthusiastically agreed to a muddy walk to the local country park. Frugal, and it gives me a rest.

I like the idea of trying a new recipe each month, Allguns - I feel very much stuck in a rut. DCs can be a bit fussy, and with DH being coeliac as well, it means our choices are limited.

I like sneaking things in though - yesterday I realised that the spag bol I defrosted was in fact chicken curry Blush so DH had that, and I made a quick tomato sauce using frozen onion and pepper (can't believe it took me so long to welcome those into my life - they're awesome!) and flaked some tuna into the sauce while it cooked. :o

Have a great day everyone. Apologies again for my negativity the last couple of days. Winter blues kicking in again I think. Hoping for a nice relaxing but productive day today.

dizzyday07 · 10/01/2016 13:04

Hello there everybody. I used to frequent this thread with my paltry housework lists but as the house has gone to pot and as we have the whole of my side of the family (9 + us 3) visiting in a fortnight and every available space will be needed for sitting in, eating in and sleeping in, I think the time has come to gird my loins and get the CHAOS under control!

We are also overrun with "stuff" and I need to have a major declutter but as I always do things ase-about-tt, instead of starting on just clearing the decks and hiding the evidence in a cupboard, yesterday I took DD's study/playroom to bits! She now has everything organised - but I now have the problem of where to put everything I am getting rid of? Need to dig out a packing box from the garage me thinks.

I've been for a short run this morning, DD has been fed and watered (and is out playing with friends) and DH is at cricket nets (due back shortly). Best I go find that box! BFN

fuzzpig · 10/01/2016 13:43

Hi dizzy! :)

Right, I've done a few things on my to do list, which I've copied onto Word so I can keep checking without constantly being on MN. I'll leave my ta da list til later but I've marked them off on the Word file for now to keep me motivated.

Just going to have a jacket spud with the rest of the tuna from yesterday, I'll stick the laptop on charge and hopefully keep on with the momentum after!

Mind you I haven't even added proper tidying or decluttering to the to do list, and I really do need to do that too. First piano lesson of the year on Wednesday and this place is a dump! Blush

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 10/01/2016 14:40

fuzzpig if you are using E45 then it can actually cause eczema in some people. Can't touch it with a barpole here.

Spent the morning in A&E after been up most the night with ds. Quite disappointed as it did not need A&E just an out of hours GP but 111 seem unable to sort that out and sent us to a&e by default Hmm

NickNacks · 10/01/2016 14:44

My apologies for not posting, though I am here in the background.

I started my Cambridge weight plan journey in Friday and though it's going well, I can't seem to do more than one thing at once and flying has been put on a back burner. Sad

Sorry about your son einstein hope he's ok Flowers

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 10/01/2016 15:01

Yeah he is fine. But I think we traumatised the entire a&e department waiting room with our medical chatter. Blush All we both need is a good night's sleep
Hospital coffee is strong stuff Shock otherwise i'd be taking a nap. No flying here today.

fuzzpig · 10/01/2016 15:01

Hope DS is ok Einstein that sounds frustrating, being shoved from pillar to post.

It's not E45, it's Doublebase gel we are using. It just seems to make his skin all red and angry and sore at the moment :( I'll make a note about the E45 though, thank you Thanks

Right, lunch done, a few more bits on my list done. The DVD I had on in the background is finished so I should take the opportunity to do the stuff that I don't want to do requires concentration before I put another one on!

I'm glad you are doing well with your weight plan Nick and hopefully it'll get easier to focus on other stuff as well, once you've got used to it. I know what you mean about not being able to manage both, sometimes it feels like there's not enough space in my head to actually think about more than one thing?!

fuzzpig · 10/01/2016 15:02

Xpost. Hope you have a peaceful night tonight to make up for it all :)

Allgunsblazing · 10/01/2016 21:28

fuzz, no need to apologise.
Haven't done much flying. Tomorrow is a whole new week :)

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 10/01/2016 21:38

Well, laundry happened, studying and allotment didn't. However I did meal plan for the week and do all the shopping, plus getting the house straightened out, all the spare bedding put back away etc after the sleepover, so not too bad really. DD was tired tonight, not surprised.

Links for Monday.

No chance of catching up on this thread, I'm afraid, but did spot that WhoKnows hosted a sleepover. Well done on surviving, Who.

Managed first week back at work and have spent this weekend Flying and cooking. Gave up my nightly glasses of wine on 1st Jan and am definitely feeling more energetic and happier now, which was a great help with all the ironing, cooking and tidying yesterday and today.

Had MIL round for lunch today, then watched an old 40s film with her although I may have nodded off on the sofa for most of it.

Have also spent quite a lot of time this weekend helping DS1 revise for a GCSE Science assessment later this week.

Off to bed now. Night fledglings.

BlueEyeshadow · 11/01/2016 09:40

Horribly cold and wet this morning. Ugh.

Managed a few minor bits of flying over the weekend, and also booked a summer holiday, and a quick jaunt to France for DH and me at half term (one night only!), so great excitement there.

Shannaratiger · 11/01/2016 12:16

Afternoon
Sneaking back into naughty corner.
Sorry haven't caught up with thread yet.

Not that much flying except keeping sink shined and washing done and put away.
Ta da including last week

Sorted some paperwork and DH shredded it. Grin
Tided Dd's and Ds's underwear and sock drawers.

Their new beds arrive 29 January. They both decided they wanted divan style beds. Therefore have to sort out ds's room as cabin bed toy storage will disappear. Hmm

I've been very rubbish WW this week, at least I didn't put any on though. Now DH and the car are no longer available the walk to school will hopefully help.

To do
Put DD in the bath and wash her hair.
Clean bathroom - how does talcum powder spread so far! Confused

DD needs lunch, best get back to FLYing.
Have a great afternoon, next time I will be on computer not bloody phone, so can post easier.

Greymalkin · 11/01/2016 12:57

Hello everyone

T'was my birthday on the weekend, so much cake, curry and champagne was consumed and minimal flying done!

Today I have managed so far:
A lie in until 6:30 - I luffs my DS even more when he sleeps until a respectable hour!
Fed DS, cats and myself
Dishwasher emptied and reloaded
Pots and pans washed up
One load in the washing machine
Packaged up a load of books, CD's and DVDs which I have sold through Ziffit (who pay better prices than MusicMagpie)
Took DS to a new local playgroup (he was a bit anxious, but I think it will be a good group to keep attending)
Lunch for us both

Still to do
Fold and put away dry laundry
Hang up wet laundry
Change bedsheets on two beds
Try to rescue an Excel Spreadsheet
Tidy living room before our family support worker comes for a home visit

Shannara - do you have a lot of weight to lose? It can be really hard when it feels as though you'll never get there
I have been using my DHs old Fitbit since the new year and find it quite motivating.

Blue France is lovely, I can understand your excitement!

Hello Toffee, hope work is still going well - are you doing Dry January?

Einstein are you enjoying the 50 books challenge thread? They all read soon quickly over there!

fuzzpig · 11/01/2016 14:21

Hi everyone :)

Belated happy birthday Grey!

Not a bad morning, went to the library and the DCs are now playing having done some quick maths and reading. Later on we're doing some arty maths which I'm really excited about :o

Flying, though? Nope. Although I did book dr appts just now. Yesterday I actually got plenty done so I'm going to post it to make myself feel better!

ta da
email word count of author's manuscript to publisher
wash on x2
fill in form for work
email boss
start packing toiletry bag which will stay at mum's
baths all round (DH did the DCs' one so that was good)
online banking
update diary with various clubs etc
finish puzzle (counting this as renewing spirit)
spend rest of Christmas money and order a couple of household bits
clean clothes away (but still not bedding/towels!)
Hang out wet laundry
Wash work clothes (DH ironed)
Watch documentary with DCs
Gather dirty clothes
Tumble dryer on

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 11/01/2016 15:00

Good morning.

Ta da
fold laundry
deliver ds to school with no standard school required stuff
book hospital appointment
Deal with some paperwork
Sort out meeting with a friend for later
Do some work on getting diaries updated and sorted
deal with a pile of letters from school

If any one can located ds homework sheet that would help. It is in a safe place somewhere Hmm

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 11/01/2016 15:06

Grey I am enjoying the 50 book challenge thanks. I have not been doing any reading and it is very beneficial for me. I am not interesting in a lot of modern literate though so it is a bit [confusing] at time but there is interesting discussion too. I have to admit I am on book 8 already but some were short books that could be completed quickly, and tbh I tend to binge read books (ie in one sitting if i can) Blush But there are a lot of very well read people on the thread and a range of opinions and tastes which makes it interesting.
Belated birthday wishes to you.
