Thinking of buying a Miele washing machine...?

To ask anyone who own's one, I am thinking about buying one but do they really live up to their name? Because I don't split my washing into fabric type apart from wool only by colour, what cycles are best for this? Does anyone have one a suspended floor, concerned as my flooring is rubbish. Are the washing cycles long? Thanks

I have a Miele. Its the one with the twin dos.

I bought it in November. It was a replacement for my zanuzzi £250 one.

The washing machines are not bloody cheap!!! Mine was £1,200.

Its quite a technical machine, you really do have to read the instructions.

It has loads of features on it, stain feature etc where you have to tell it what stain it is!

A standard 40c wash load is 3 hours 4 mins. There are quick wash functions which take around an hour.

Im in a 10 year old house with chip board flooring. On the spin speed its not as silent as it should be this is because of the flexible flooring. Any washing machine is best on concrete flooring.

I like the washing machine tbh but the standard cycle is quite long if you have a big family or the washer on several times a day.

I've had my 520 for 9 years. It has a great range of washes(I use the hour ones generally) is quiet and, despite the plumber dropping it down a stone flight of stairs, shows no sign of giving up. I'd get another and definitely recommend.

I have one for the past 8 years and it's still going strong. Mine isn't too techno - it has a dial to set the programmes and some buttons to eg add an extra rinse, reduce the temp etc. no real issues with it apart from the wire holding the seal coming loose but we think that was the Velcro on baby bibs that got caught and it was easy enough to fix ourselves. I have twins and a new baby so it definitely gets abuse!

We've got the basic Miele model. It's just as good as the higher end ones. I didn't want the self dosing detergent model, I don't see the point in it. Plus a lot of them you can only use liquids with and I prefer powder.

We've had it for 7 years now. It's a fantastic machine and it was fine on our wooden kitchen floor in our old house. Cottons 60 takes 1 hour 58 and Cottons 40 is 2 hours 10 mins, but both cycles adjust the time according to the load, so if it's a smaller load, the time often drops down on both to around 1 hour 15. It will only use the whole wash time if you cram the drum full.

It has loads of cycles, but I only ever use Cottons 40/60 for most clothes, sheets and towels, minimum iron for shirts and delicates for...well...delicates.

The programs on this look to be the same as ours, give or take. We paid £599 for ours but that was 7 years ago, so I suspect this is the equivilant model

Do you all just wash on a standard cotton wash and find that to be fine? If you wash on the shorter wash option does that still clean as well as the longer wash options? Couldn't stand waiting 2-3 hours per wash and don't really have the time to be honest. They do sound good. I am looking more at the cheaper 7kg models around £600.

I've had mine for 9 years, still going strong. Chosen because it is so quiet (and it is still quiet) and because I hate having to replace appliances every 5 minutes. It isn't too technical, but I like the way it adjusts the wash time once it has weighed the contents.

Mine has a fast wash of about 35 minutes that gets things properly clean. I usually wash on the one down from cottons - something about minimum iron? It takes about an hour. The cottons cycles, which I use for towels and bedding, are maybe 2 hours.

Can you still do a full spin on the minimum iron programme OP?

napkin, minimum iron only does a short spin and is only designed to wash 3kg loads. It's a bit like "synthetics" on a lot of other washers.

You shouldn't have a problem with using cottons. As I mentioned, it adjusts the wash time acccording to the load, so if the load isn't that heavy, it will drop the time down accordingly to about an 1 hour 15 or so. The only time ours doesn't do that is if we put a heavy load of towels in. With clothes and bedding on cottons, the machine almost always reduces the time down to under 90 minutes.

Also, the 35 minute quick wash is only for half loads too. It's a good wash to freshen things up or if you've spilt something on a t-shirt and want to get it in the wash straight away, but I don't use it for full washes.

One good thing is that you can press the "quick" option for both cottons and minimum iron, so it will do those cycles quicker.

I've just put a load in - mostly t-shirts, jeans, underwear and dark shirts. The machine flashed up a time remaining of 2:08 to start with, but after the first few minutes, it's dropped down to 1:18.

Mine's about 14 years old. Just had its first repair a couple of months ago, the brushes. It takes a real hammering, mud and hay. But also brilliant for very delicate items that should be hand washed but I can't be arsed.

Worth every penny we spent buying it, which was a lot at the time.

my mum has a miele. She only uses the quick wash which is 30 mins.

Recently my machine was broken and I did a couple of loads at her house. I could not believe how clean my white was was from 30 minutes in her machine.

The quick option works just as well then Rabbit as the full washes? It's important to me to have a good short wash.

I've had that one for about a year now. It's my second Miele, I had one in my previous house, but left it behind when we moved. It's great, I would only buy Miele. There is a quick wash for 20 mins that I use to freshen stuff up, like a clean school shirt for the morning! A basic 40 deg cotton on a quick setting takes 67 mins, not sure what the long setting is as it's currently on so I can't move the dial.

Sorry I can't tell you about the new models and programmes.

Mine's 16 years old, is a combined washer/dryer, has moved house several times and touch wood, still awaiting its first repair. There's not a mark on it.

I only use the 30 delicate wash, never handwash anything, the quick or the long 40 one and the 95 one for towels, bedlinen and maintenance. Its performance is excellent.

It's not particularly quiet when it spins, but as it's not in the kitchen I don't bother and don't time the cycles either. It is quite useful to use the timer delay, but I suppose most machines have that now. It is extremely heavy but on a solid floor so can't help on that either sorry.

The automatic wash is supposed to sense what's in the drum and adjust the wash and water levels accordingly. Only does a 40 wash and takes about an hour. Fine for clothes but not so great for sheets and towels

I find that gets everything clean, I use the longer setting when I wash dirty sports kit or my dogs bedding.

I think the new models do a quick wash in 20 mins, I don't think that would get my clothes cleaned as well. Would love it to though.

Having said that, I've never seen a machine that will do a full drum capacity wash on a quick wash. Your best bet would be to put it on cottons and use the "short" button. That will do a proper wash but in less time.

I occasionally use the automatic wash, but you can't customise the automatic for a pre wash or short cycle, so usually use the cotton one. Also it's good for hand washing woollens, I put my cashmere jumpers in, and they come out fine.
