Dirtiest house you've been in?!

Hi. This is my first post and I'm new here????
was just startingmy daily routine, but today feel like I'm on a major ocd rampage as visited a friends house that was seriously filthy and it's set me off..Their house stinks of cats and dogs,the kitchen sides are manky, bits all over the floors, and downstairs loo full of washing and skidders down the toilet???? I could go into more detail, but I'll leave it there...oh and it was a party so there were about 20 guests arriving at the house.
What's the dirtiest house you've been in? I had to wipe my feet on the way out!

House like you describe that was lived-in by a childminder running the local CM network, when I was interviewing her about whether to mind DC. My grubby 4yo DS baulked at using her toilet.

Childhood friends' house I never got further than the living room which had heavy layer of dust on everything (including floor & furniture).

Boyfriend's house with mould everywhere (single dad + 2 teen sons lived there) but I think they attended bogs regularly, and kitchen didn't feel horrible.

Birthday party last yr, downstairs was okay but thick layers of grime on most the (only) bathroom surfaces upstairs.

I don't think those are so bad, actually. I know a lot worse exists and isn't so uncommon.

Ewe at the child minders house! I really only skimmed the surface, friends house could actually be on Obsessive compulsive cleaners. I lifted some potatoes out of the oven for her and I've never seen an oven so dirty! Don't get me wrong mine doesn't look new, But bats could have lived in theirs...I'm glad I took my own can's of coke tbh ????

The dirtiest house I've ever been in had been squatted by an unknown number of injecting heroin addicts. My friend had been allocated the place by the housing association and it was let as-is for some complicated reason I never quite grasped (although they did refer her to a place where she could get sharps bins for cleaning up). She was desperate so we cleaned it, gingerly and with terror.

There was a sort of floor made of rubbish - no walkways even - just a sea of debris. There were no beds but mattresses on the floor and clothes all around and cans and needles, then fanning out from each doss more cans of beer, cider, Nurrishment, cutlery and foils, crushed down and held together with fag ends and rollie ends and, free newspapers and, sadly, a large amount of cheap plastic toys. There was almost no food waste, not even in the kitchen. Everything was soaked with stale beer and piss - there were piss stains against the walls. I didn't go in the bathroom, I don't think, or possibly I have repressed it!

It was very sad in the end. It's funny - we started out being quite squealy and laughing and ew-ing at everything but as we went on the, I don't know, abandoned failure of it all seeped into our bones.

Apart from the house of a junkie which was beyond vile (maggots, smashed windows, rubbish everywhere), the worst I have been in was a friends. Dog poo all over garden, stuff everywhere, dirty surfaces, rubbish pulled out of bins by dogs and left there, more pets in the garden that also stank, wee soaked bathroom carpet. I felt sorry for her kids tbh.

Haha I have lived in my house for 8 years the oven came with it and I have never cleaned it op, you'd probably not approve....

I try not to judge people by the cleanliness of their households.

My sisters house . It's fucking disgusting. Apart from the general filth, nothing makes me more BOAK than dirty laundry on the floor in the kitchen. Just no. And yes, it's the kids I feel sorry for.

A client's house years ago. They had a young family and IT was tidy but really really really filthy. Everything was kind of shiny yet sticky. They weren't impoverished either but just didn't seem to get that soap or detergent existed and once said proudly they never used washing up liquid, just hot water. Ugh.

I'm no domestic goddess by the way, but you don't stick to my floors...

When I was a kid we had a notorious local family move in two doors down the road. It was a mother and her five daughters. The mother never got out of bed and the house was like something from a horror film. The sheets on the beds were thick brown, the sheets of the eldest were caked with dried menstural blood; there was dog shit trodden into the carpets where the kids used to wander around bare foot; there was mouldy food all over the kitchen work surfaces; the kitchen windows were black with a layer of flies; the youngest girl was sick on the floor once when I was there and it was still there six months later.

Dirty bastards.

When they moved out, the council put a big white tent over the front and back and fumigated it.

I always think that really filthy houses are a symptom of a mental health issue. But then I also think that about really clean ones too!

My brother in law's house. Always feel I need a shower after I leave and even though it's filthy they insist on 'shoes off' I usually take spare socks and when I leave they are caked in mess!
There is no real reason for it to be so dirty. They have jobs and two kids so are busy but I honestly believe they simply do not see the dirt.

Viewed a house in a rather posh area of Hertfordshire. Large 11 bedroom 1 bathroom (oven in the bath) semi.

You could smell the house from down the street. Upstairs rooms were either piled high with bin bags of her clothes or you could not go in the rooms as the cats and dogs had weed so much the joists weren't safe. Lady in a wheelchair who had 14+ cats and 7 dogs. Never let out as she could not get them back in. We viewers were greeted by a pile of maggots in the middle of the hall. The lady in the wheelchair had confined herself to one room and the viewings were done by the estate agents and a mad man who said he helped the old lady out. He was replacing all the old Victorian doors (which he proudly announced he had burnt inthe back garden) with fire doors, he was installing central heating and he had built an extension which had no windows, no doorways, no floors and was 3 storeys high with no roof and no way in to from the house. He also thought the cellar which was 6 foot deep in water could be used as a swimming pool.

Another I have visited was a lovely house in Oxfordshire which the owners had been unable to make it to the bathroom and had shit everywhere. They had even had the soil pipe of the toilet extended across the bathroom

floor through the wall and into the bedroom so the toilet was next to the bed. And there was still shit on the bedroom carpet.

I don't mind a bit of dust when I'm feeling lazy but the worst house I ever visited was a health hazard.

The kitchen bin had not been emptied for months - the family just added a cardboard box to the pile and used that. Their animals dragged carcasses and waste food all over the floor and it was just pushed to the side. The washing up was covered in dried and crusted food, I don't know how long it had been there. I presume they have to wash up at some point.

The place was filthy and had never been cleaned, to the point where I actually didn't want to sit on one of their chairs.

The downstairs toilet was spattered inside and out with dried diarrhoea. The (white) sink was various shades of grey, brown and black.

Beds were just pillows and bare mattresses with a coverless duvet thrown over.

To be fair, I actually think that there must have been some kind of mental health issue going on because there is no way that anyone could want to live in that kind of filth and I know the family had been visited by several social workers. Whilst I was in the environment I felt disgust and tried to not breathe too much or touch anything, but on reflection I realised that there must have been greater issues than just laziness. Their "home educated" son spent all his days playing computer games. It was all very sad.

...oven in the bath...? That one went over my head, I'm afraid.

My sisters old house was awful. She used to let her rabbits wander around pooing everywhere and not clean it up for ages.
She's moved house and her partner keeps her in check as he's a bit of a clean freak

Ours was pretty grim when we bought it (previous occupant elderly and incontinent) but not a patch on someone I worked with, my son wouldn't even use their toilet it was so disgusting. There was never a spot not filled with stuff like dirty clothes, pots, stuff in bags and it just smelled really unclean.

This thread makes me want to go home and clean!

A friend's house. It was so dirty I wouldn't have a cup of tea there. The debris from her daughter's first birthday party was still on the dining table when they moved out almost three years later. She was a nurse, so I don't know if she was fed up of sticking to strict hygiene rules at work and relaxed with things at home or if she was grubby at work too.

My sisters house. She asked for help to clean it as the HV was doing a pretty birth visit. Omfg, it was filthy! Thick dirt on the walls, moldy dishes/food in the kitchen, floor was so sticky that it lifted with each step, shit on the floor of the bathroom (literally, a big turd on the floor), bottles of urine laying around -her DH was/is too lazy to walk upstairs to the toilet to piss!
I've visited a couple of times since and its still the same, I wish my nieces and nephews didn't have to live in such filth.

I know of someone whose friends were so appalled by the state of her kitchen that they went round and deep cleaned it. They found baby bottles with what used to be milk still inside. The youngest child in the family was about nine at the time.

I used to be a housing officer. I have seen houses that defy description. I've vomited after leaving a few. Some of my colleagues had always seen worse, though (and had the flea bites to prove it).

One memorable one though was a house i wasn't even visiting though. I was in a neighbouring and the smell was dreadful. The tenant said the smell had been evident for a while but was getting stronger. I suspected dodgy drains and reported it to maintenance and promptly forgot about it. On investigation, it turned out that the neighbouring property's toilet had been broken for months and, instead of reporting the broken toilet, the tenant had taken to using the bath to poo in. By the time maintenance found the source of the problem, the bath was full to the brim. I'm very glad I only saw the photos (although they were bad enough and I'm heaving a bit at the memory).

A family member of dh's has to be the worst house I have ever been in. It was like one of those houses on the tv shows that you see. There was only one sofa in the lounge that didn't have stuff piled up on it. Every spot of floor was covered. There was animal poo (rabbits, cats and dogs in the house), the stench of urine just hit you when you walked in, like an ammonia smell. The toilet was brown and I don't think it had ever been cleaned. The kitchen counters were full of dirty dishes, empty cartons, you name it. The microwave inside was thick with dirt. My dh warned me in advance and we stopped at the petrol station before we went to have a wee, as he said there is no way we could go there. We were sitting on the sofa and when I stood up, there was blood on my skirt. I thought that I had started my period, so I did have to go to that loo, only to find that I hadn't, someone else had and it was all seeped into the sofa cushion. It was brown and filthy anyway, so i didn't notice when i sat down. Her daughter and granddaughter of about 3 at the time lived there with her like that. How the child wasn't ill all the time I do not know. Her father eventually got custody of her because of the conditions she was living in. The house was condemned not long after that.

my best friends house we used to stick to the floor there were flies everywhere cat shit everywhere the stench was appalling ingrained on your senses we used to come home throw clothing in the washing machine and shower i felt bad for her because she is not normally like this her mom was dying of cancer and it got out of control she has a new house now and yes it gets a bit dusty and a bit cluttered it never ever gets to the stage where her last one did

When I was trying to swap my HA flat I saw some absolute horrors. One in particular was diabolical, the walls and floors were literally black and the kitchen covered in grease. It had a garden though so ex H was insistent we should keep an open mind. I lasted 2 minutes max in there, then took ds outside. Ex stayed behind chit chatting for about twenty minutes! When I asked him why he said he didn't want to hurt her feelings and called me unimaginative for not being able to see the potential .

When I represented children going through the care system, I visited some corkers!

One I remember as not the dirtiest by far, but the most chaotic. There wwa stuff everywhere. Piles and pile of it. And the noise! Televisions, radios, stereos, all on full blast in every room. Children and adults shouting. I felt dizzy.

But the muckiest, were the junkies.
