Fledglings are Flying into February

Welcome to the February Fledglings thread. Before we get started we have some important notices?:

  1. The Fledglings are a long running thread, some of us have known each other for several years but newcomers are always welcome.
  1. We follow the Flylady way (somewhat flexibly) and we adapt it to suit our lives and needs. That also means we chat a lot too, it is a general thread about life, as well as Flylady.

So the fly lady system there are rules and we have adaptations.?

  1. NO perfectionism - life’s too short.?
  2. Something is better than nothing and sometimes good enough really is good enough.?
  3. This is not about the housework, it is about having more time to do fun stuff. Don't ever feel guilty about doing stuff with the kids over doing the housework. The kids are more important.??And the practical adaptations.
  4. For newbies to the Flylady site and system everything you need will be posted here in the form of links. The homes is divided into zones where we spend one week each on a monthly basis. Within the zones we do babysteps and decluttering - the babysteps are little daily habits to get into, decluttering speaks for itself. As we progress we start doing missions (a more in depth task in that weeks zone). We may even get to detailed cleaning once we have decluttered. There are also daily tasks, on a weekly basis.

WARNING: Unless you want a very cluttered inbox full of gushing quotes and testimonials DO NOT subscribe to the Flylady emails from the site.

So, welcome on board and lets get Flying in February!

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 30/01/2015 21:49

Oi carpe will you at least join us for a drink at the naughty corner bar once we decamp over here?

CarpeJugulum · 31/01/2015 08:16

Ooh, once in a while. I'm back to full time working so life is stressed. And we're thinking of moving... 400 miles away... So it's all a bit ARGH!!!!!!!!

Saymwa · 31/01/2015 08:24

Hi Whoknows , Toffee , Bitchy, Blue (and maybe Carpe) Smile
Waiting for all the other fledglings to fly over here. Thanks for taking on this month's thread Whoknows.
Still laughing at teacher who didn't see the funny side of Mrs. Slocombe's pussy Toffee Grin. She sounds like Mrs. Slocombe herself !

Yesterday went well talking with DD. Lots of cuddles and now I feel calmer. When she saw the house looking better, I also felt happy because she was reassured.

Today's Todo list
-Morning routine (including dressed and make up today Wink )
-15 mins decluttering in zone 5 because I want to see how much I can really get done in 15 mins there.

  • 15 mins polishing in zone 5 because I am looking forward to seeing it clean.
  • 5 mins hotspot in kitchen
  • 15 mins treating part of wood floor in zone 5 because it needs doing and I love the smell too Smile.
  • lunch with DH
  • 1h preparing tomorrow's dinner
  • 3h work prepa
  • out with DH and DD tonight.

Catch you later Smile.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 31/01/2015 08:31

That's the good thing about Flying Saymwa, not so much the tidier house as the positive effect on your state of mind that it gives. Glad you had a nice day with DD.

Welcome back Carpe.

Pour me a cuppa will you, WhoKnows? I don't want to have to go downstairs to get myself one. And thank you for the new thread!

Slingclutter · 31/01/2015 12:59

[Guzzles tea gratefully. Supplies plate of Biscuit]

Huge humungous and mahoosive "thank yous" to Bitchy for beating us all in to submission during January! Thanks

And sustaining Cake for Whoknows to keep you going throughout Feb!!

[SC here.] Waves to all. [Just parking bop and mucket.]

Greymalkin · 31/01/2015 13:20

Marking place, will be back later Grin Thanks

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 31/01/2015 18:17

Got a lull in the sleepover proceedings (they're eating pizza in front of the telly) so I'm going to post tomorrow's links shortly (I might be a bit rusty!).

OK, here goes:

Sunday 1st Feb Shine your sink. Bit of an essay at the beginning of this one too.

No mission because it's Sunday, however we can look forward to Zone 1 and our Entrance, Porch and Dining Room from Monday. I will post the Sneak Peek tomorrow.

Our habit for Sunday is Renew your spirit.

Just marking my place - am not sure how much time I'll have to post next week as it's half-term here.

Thanks for the new thread and links WhoKnows and for leading last month Bitchy. Flowers

GoingGoingGoth · 31/01/2015 21:22

Sneaking back in as I fell off the posting wagon last month. Had a few ups & downs (nothing too drastic) but raring to go this month.

ToffeeWhirl · 01/02/2015 00:10

No Flying today, as I spent the day up in London with old friends. Had a lovely time. Also had the chance to read my new book on the train journey Smile.

Saymwa · 01/02/2015 08:02

Good morning All ,

It' s good to see fledglings returning after having been off for a while. For me this is my second month of flying. Thankyou Bitchy for running the January thread and welcoming me into the group.
I have settled into establishing my morning routine quite easily. But I have found the decluttering part more difficult . Overall, so far I am enjoying seeing the positive results on my home and on my family of all this flying.

I can see what you mean about flying being good for my state of mind Whoknows. Yesterday ,I managed to treat and polish 2 parts of wooden floor and I am really happy to see it shiny now. I even want to do one more part today.

Then, according to this month's habit I should do 15 mins decluttering - and even start with entrance.
( This I really don't want to do but believe I'll feel happier if I manage to.)
I'd prefer to go back to the naughty corner . Enjoyed giggling there with SloCo yesterday.

Also, really feel that it's important to be able to do something with DD today - like going for a walk .

So Today's Todos
Morning routine
Dressed and make up
Make buns
Make dinner - soup, chicken , roast pots , apple sponge and cream
Go for walk
Declutter 15 mins - using timer
Polish 3rd part of floor - if I've got time.
Prep work - didn't do it yesterday
Evening routine
Bed by 10 - 10.30

Well must get on now. Waves to All,
Smile

Saymwa · 01/02/2015 08:03

Glad you had a good time yesterday Toffee Smile.

CarpeJugulum · 01/02/2015 08:21

Sink is clean. For once...

Can I just confess that I'm decluttering the Kondo way, and it's immense. I can get into my underwear drawer and find EVERYTHING I want - same with tshirts etc.

I know Fly lady will always be my cleaning guru, but Kondo is fab for decluttering.

Now, off to polish my CV to send to a recruiter 400 miles away... Eeeeeep!

(Any of you lot in S Yorks?)

Shannaratiger · 01/02/2015 09:19

Still FLYing. Can't believe we're already in February!
Am currently seriously going to sort out all my weekly and monthly routines.
On phone ATM, big computer back to shop again. Dh off work next week so prob not back till Thursday.

Have a good day everyone.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/02/2015 09:40

Well, I'm quite glad January's over, it's been fine but hard work with both DCs birthdays, tax return, OU assignment and statement stuff.

Boys (and DD) are all lounging around in pjs playing with gadgets, having slept (well, been quiet) from about 11.30 to 7.30. It's gone well but I'm looking forward to getting the house back to ourselves.

WhispersOfWickedness · 01/02/2015 09:51

I really need a kick up the bum to get flying this morning. So much to do after the lack of flying last week Sad A combination of PMT (I lose all motivation with that) and snow (which made everything so much harder and involved a few miles walking per day) was not good for flying!
I agree that the Kondo method is brilliant for decluttering, it makes so much sense (well, apart from the bit about unpacking your handbag every night Hmm) and I have been able to get rid of so much stuff guilt free since I read it Smile

ToffeeWhirl · 01/02/2015 10:48

Well done on getting through the sleepover, WhoKnows.

Saymwa - I'm glad to hear that you are seeing the positive results of Flying already.

Carpe and Whispers - I tried Kondo-ing our clothes, but haven't done any more. It makes sense to declutter by category, but I'm overwhelmed at the time it will take. It's on my 'to do' list though.

DH is taking DS2 out for a walk on the Downs. Luckily, I'm exempt as the osteopath told me I needed to rest my sore knee for a bit, plus I have an infected toe (honestly, I'm a physical wreck right now). So I'm going to use the time to tackle the house which has, frankly, fallen into a bit of a state recently. Hopefully, I will have Flying to report later.

WhispersOfWickedness · 01/02/2015 12:44

Have started fairly well, getting on top of washing etc now, changed our bed and went out in the snow to deliver our village newsletter Smile
Am back on the sofa now though Blush Need some lunch and then will get back onto it Smile
