ilikepie · 05/12/2014 14:30

Shockingundercrackers · 05/12/2014 14:48

Oh thanks you lot. It's almost like you've made the whole sorry adventure and two precious hours of naptime worthwhile.

If I tell him it's a Tarmac cake, do you think I could get away with it. He does love cars and roads. And stuff. Confused

It looks like dinosaur poo.. Does he like dinos?

Shockingundercrackers · 05/12/2014 14:54

Yes! Yes he does!

Any clue as to discuise the rank and overpowering taste of singed cocoa?

OP posts:
Poopooplop · 05/12/2014 14:56

Again... Just tell him it's poo cake! Hooray!

I was going to say, no my DS' birthday cake is the worst but... Wink

Happy birthday to him, I'm sure he'll love it!

MagicBacon · 05/12/2014 16:05

it's not that bad

Might I suggest trimming the burnt edges off, then chopping it into small bite sized chunks or whizzing it up with some butter icing and making it into cake pops? or sticking it in the bin and buying one from Tescos

It's the thought that counts, but with cake, sadly it's also the taste!

Patilla · 05/12/2014 16:07

Ok it might not look quite as you wanted it to but (and I speak from experience) icing can cover a multitude of sins.

Slather chocolate spread all over it and cover with smarties flakes and marshmallows. It will be fine probably

UncrushedParsley · 05/12/2014 16:11

Ok.....so we need to know how old DS is as to how likely you are to get away with it

MangoBiscuit · 05/12/2014 16:11

Lop off the burnt bits, then lop off a wedge at an angle, and flip it over and lie it on top of the cake at the other side. Stick in place with a bit of chocolate frosting. Cover with frosting, cover the raised bit with golden sugar, add a few digger toys, one digging some of the sand heap (raised bit covered in sugar) and dot around a few bits of malteasers, matchmakers etc, for other building materials. Then pass me a slice!

Badvocinapeartree · 05/12/2014 16:12

Dragon egg?

CanIBeHappyNow · 05/12/2014 16:12

Tbh I'd still eat it.

CakeUpWall · 05/12/2014 16:15

Brilliant idea, Mango. I take my cakey hat off to your resourcefulness. When I saw the photo I just sniggered.

ClearlyMoo · 05/12/2014 16:16

It's not that bad. It'll taste ok. Do Mango's suggestion!

WowOoo · 05/12/2014 19:17

Grin Oh, that has made me chuckle.

To make you feel better: it will taste nice. Other people have made worse. They really have....

Cover it with buttercream and slap on some ready made pro decorations.

If you all wanted a laugh I could show you my 'Minecraft' effort from earlier this year. Even Ds thought it was hilarious. It tasted lovely.

Mitchymatchy · 05/12/2014 20:00

You never taste the cake under all the icing anyway. Strongly chocolate flavoured icing maybe, to be on the safe side.

Could you cut in half, sandwich the halves together and stand on the cut edge to make a dinosaur? Like the 4 th one here : www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com/dinosaur-cake.html

Or, same idea, www.thecakekitcompany.com/dinosaur_cake.htm

Shockingundercrackers · 05/12/2014 20:24

Ha! Oh mango you are a genius. If only I'd read your post before I sliced off the burned bits and ate them, truly they weren't THAT bad I'd have gone for that. Instead I've sent DP to the 24 hour Tesco to pick up some roll out icing and I'm ploughing ahead with the square-cake-with-a-number-five--on-it idea. God help DS. And his 25 friends.

Mitchy I love that second dinosaur cake, am pinching that for DS2 next year.

Expect The Worst Cake in the World - redux thread sometime soon!

Thanks for making me laugh at 5am in the morning

CatWreathkeith · 08/12/2014 14:59

If it makes you feel better op this is the three tier cake that I made for my nieces birthday last year.

She wanted one that looked like a wedding cake. It didn't go well....

ClearlyMoo · 09/12/2014 08:43

Oh dear CatWreath that is something special!!!

I think wedding cakes use boards and rods and royal icing....

What did you do?!
