How often to change the beds?

dalziel1 · 24/09/2014 21:11

I saw a news article recently that said that about a quarter of people "admit" to changing the beds monthly. I do that and I didn't realise it wasn't nearly enough!

How often are we supposed to wash the pillow cases, sheets, duvet cover etc? The article implied weekly was about right. But in my case that would be around 3 more loads of washing every weekend.

That can't be right, can it?

and what about the pillow protectors and mattress protectors - are they supposed to be weekly as well?

You wash them as often as you feel you need to Grin

leelteloo · 24/09/2014 21:13

Errr weekly? All pillow cases and duvet covers, thought this was normal practice?

Dontlaugh · 24/09/2014 21:14

Weekly here.
3 x beds and one cot.
Pillow protectors etc every 2 weeks.

mausmaus · 24/09/2014 21:14

christmas and easter if they need it or not...

MillieMoodle · 24/09/2014 21:15

My mum always did it weekly when I was growing up. I used to do it fortnightly as we struggle to get stuff dry in our house but I've just started working from home one day a week so am managing to get sheets/towels done and dried weekly now. Love getting into clean sheets Smile

CPtart · 24/09/2014 21:21

Monthly in the winter months. Every 2-3 weeks in the summer when I can dry outside.

PacificDogwood · 24/09/2014 21:38

maus Grin

The frequency of my bed sheet changing may be influenced by the fact that I don't actually like freshly laundered sheets Shock

dalziel1 · 24/09/2014 21:56

what about vacuuming the mattresses?

and washing the bath towels? (Please don't say daily!)

Bath towels once a week, hand towels changed twice. Bedding - id be lying if I said I did it religiously but id say monthly in the cooler months and every 2-3 weeks in summer (ish).

GemmaTeller · 24/09/2014 22:07

Bedding weekly - we love a fresh clean bed Grin

Mattress protector monthly and hoover the mattress when its being changed - as well as repositioning the mattress.

Towels weekly but we get a clean towel out as and when, daily if needed.

New tea towel used daily.

Dog beds washed weekly.

There's only two of us and I don't mind doing laundry.

MrsCurrent · 24/09/2014 22:14

Ideally weekly but it sometimes often is a little over. Vacuuming the mattress is every month-ish. Towels can be up to 3 days depending on whether any of the smelly boys in this house actually hang them up.

mimiasovitch · 24/09/2014 22:28

Mine is weekly, the kids fortnightly. It wasn't so frequent until I got a cleaner though. I love her Smile

Mrsgrumble · 24/09/2014 22:33

Weekly.. I was sick this week and didn't get around to it and feel eugh.. So doing them tomorrow.

Hate the smell of pillowcases and often do them more often

Artistic · 24/09/2014 23:25

Weekly, unless they haven't been used much due to travel, holiday etc. Couldn't stand anything less frequent!

Openup41 · 25/09/2014 07:24

Weekly. I like the feel of clean sheets on my skin.

A bedroom can smell muggy if sheets are not washed regularly, especially when used by two people.

Artandco · 25/09/2014 07:37

Beding Weekly
Towels weekly
Mattress protectors and Hoover mattress monthly

dalziel1 · 25/09/2014 08:13

Clearly, I need to up my game!

A different, but related question: how many loads of washing do you put on each week?

We are 2 adults + 2 pre-teen boys and I do about 8 in a normal week, including towels. With the bedding, it will be 11ish.

There's only two of us now and I do;

1 x white
1 x coloureds
1 x bedding
1 x towels
1 x dog bedding
1 x sofa throws (in rotation)

If the weathers really nice I find myself looking for stuff to wash then I can peg it out Blush

IShallCallYouSquishy · 25/09/2014 08:31

Every 1-2 weeks for bedding. I should really do it today but I'm waiting until Sunday as DH away and I want the clean bedding to myself Wink

scrivette · 25/09/2014 08:31

Monthly for bedding here, I do about three loads a week, coloured, white and dark for two adults and a small child.

Fairylea · 25/09/2014 08:33

Weekly for bedding here. Towels put in wash bin after every use - then I do a wash when I have a collection.

I do about 14 wash loads a week.. family of 4. Sometimes I find it easier just to wash things than try to work out if they need washing or not!!

RunByFruiting · 25/09/2014 08:35

Depends how stinky dh is, he has to make the beds atm (pg with pgp!) so I have to work around his shifts with washing everything.

Kids stuff gets done when they're needed (ds1 usually gets something sticky on his bed once a week & ds2 wets through sometimes, damn toddlers)!

ReluctantCamper · 25/09/2014 08:37

Change beds weekly except when I've got a 2 week old baby. Vacuuming mattresses is a thing?

Artandco · 25/09/2014 09:11

4 people. 5-6 loads washing
X1 dark, x1 lights, x1 delicates ( if needed). X2 bedding.x1 towels
