It's the clutter shouting "Mayday" as the Fledglings spring into action

GoingGoingGoth · 30/04/2014 22:12

Copying last month's thread.

So for those who don't know the fledglings is a long running thread. Some of us seem clicky but that is because we have been chatting on these threads for nearly half a decade makes everyone feel old we quite like fresh blood though so feel free to jump in and join us.

Three key points to keep in mind:
(1)No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine
(2)You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
(3) It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

If you are new then trying to spend 15mins decluttering and the babysteps.

Some of us Bitchy can have scary looking lists. One word of advice ignore them. Do what you can, anything is better then nothing, and don't judge yourself against others, we won't be judging you.

slackcabbage · 27/05/2014 09:16

Just diving in to wish Whoknow's strength for the days ahead. So good to know that your df is fully mobile and comprehending. I'm sure his speech will recover in time. Take care of yourself too xxxx

[leaves caffeine or caffeine-free drinks for all insomniacs]

Right back to chasing the ice man!

feetheart · 27/05/2014 10:42

Just back from camping trip in Suffolk with unpacking/washing all over the place and no chance of getting anything dried as forecast is rubbish Angry

So sorry to hear about your DF Whoknows, thoughts are with you all. Make sure you try and look after yourself in amongst it all.

Will try and catch up at some point but for the moment:
Ta da:

  • Sorted loads of photos for something I want to do for DD
  • Up, washed and dressed
  • DS showered and bed stripped (over-tired so wet bed:()
  • Unpacked some of camping stuff

To do:

  • Breakfast Hmm
  • Make bread
  • More unpacking
  • More washing
  • Washing up camping stuff and put away
  • Menu plan (including lots of low fat stuff as DH has decided that he needs to go back to being good re fat content)
  • Shop for food
  • Help DC plan the week
  • Stuff re new rental property

I'm sure there area lots more things to do but that will do for now.
Have a good day everyone.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/05/2014 11:07

Morning,

At work today, DCs are at holiday club. Will be doing food shopping at lunchtime, then off to see Dad as soon as DH gets home from work. He had another scan last night and it showed a big improvement apparently. Mum said he was very chirpy. Thanks to everyone for your support, it being the school holidays I haven't seen any real life friends to talk it over with, just my colleagues this morning.

Sympathies re the camping stuff Feet - we got most of ours dry on Sunday, but decided to wash our inner tents as they had got a bit mildewy and they are all still flapping forlornly and soaking wet on the line.

MercuryRising · 27/05/2014 13:39

Whoknows Im sorry to hear about your df but it sounds as if he is making good progress.

I'm jumping back in (again)

Dmum came over today and helped me to blitz the kitchen. We decluttered and cleaned the cupboards, washed down the door and cleaned some of the paintwork. I have got rid of 3 black bags of clutter!

My plan for the remainder of the day is to go and have a well earned cup of tea with sil then do a small pile of ironing, fold and put some laundry away, make dinner and then do some coursework. Not the most exciting half term day, but I feel that catching up on bits around the house will make family life a lot less stressful.

BlueEyeshadow · 27/05/2014 14:18

So sorry to hear about your father, WhoKnows.

Chasing the ice man, SC? Cometh he?

Well so far today have:
Hoovered upstairs (had to do downstairs yesterday evening as soon as the train track was put away!)
Cleaned bathroom
Tried to take boys to half term event only to find it wasn't on
Had "picnic" lunch at home to make up for it - indoors!
Done loads of campaign stuff

Off to visit friend shortly, now it's merely raining hard instead of torrential!

slackcabbage · 27/05/2014 19:22

[Crawling in on knees - not feeling too chipper today - but carrying on]

Just making birthday cake now ... wimpers ...had mahoosive office collapse of computers today of course - of all the days for it to happen ... including back-up ... dh v. distressed/stressed.

Yes Blue finally tracked him down! The Ice Man cometh tomorrow!! Grin

Whoknows great that your df is so chipper! How very brave of him!

Mercury you are doing wonders!!!

Hope you are ok Bitchy

Envy re Suffolk countryside Feetheart

Big waves to Toffee Swan¨Pushme Goth and everyone else!

[Beats head with large rolled up magazine to get self out of chair and back in to kitchen]

Swanhildapirouetting · 27/05/2014 20:37

good luck with the party and cake SC (just remember they are only children and cannot award grades or in any way find you wanting, unlike adults Hmm and so sorry about the computers [I hate computers when they go the least bit off piste]

Today I have
done
dealt with dd meltdown over her room, she wants it all changed (I thoroughly sympathise with her, I feel that way most of the time with all the rooms in this house except the kitchen) We compromised on possibly painting her cupboard a distressed white (she was harping on about "vintage"), getting rid of pink walls, and putting the banana yellow beanbag in my room. I have also taken all my favourite books out of her room and put them in MY room, hello Chalet School series and Laura Ingalls Wilder, as she hasn't read them yet and don't think she ever will Grin

took dses for tennis lesson and swimming. Ds2 again was charming, played for ages in the pool with some new children. He also ran Ikm on the running machine which took him 8mins (not so good time)
Ds1 was gung ho and put up with his tennis lesson in the rain and a long walk home by himself, to get in practice for his 15 mile walk in June.
Ds1 and I watched Location Location Location happily after that, then ds2 had a Maths tutor
I read ds2 Roman Mysteries and chatted.
[dd was stropping by this point HmmI could hear her screechiing at dh about her cupboard whilst ds2 and I were discussing finer points of Romans Blush

oven chips and bacon and salad for supper..

better return to dd's room now, making headway on the basic tidying.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/05/2014 22:02

Sorry, haven't read all your posts, just got back from the hospital and wanted to report that there is a big improvement in Dad since yesterday, which is a relief. To say the least. I tell you what, our NHS is bloody brilliant in an emergency.

slackcabbage · 27/05/2014 23:05

Just on weary way to bed ...

That's great news Whoknows!!

Thanks for the wise words Swan I needed them tonight bemoaning fact I've only managed to get through half the things I had planned.

Gosh, I loved all the Chalet school books and I still read the Laura Ingalls Wilder ones now!!

In fact, I was thinking about the scene in one of LIW's (was it small town on the prairie?) when she goes to a party for the first time and is thrilled by a slice of frosted cake and an orange how times have changed

Waves to Goth

G'night all

GoingGoingGoth · 28/05/2014 00:58

Ok. Got distracted with crotchet, so will do summary in the morning

WhoKnows such good news Smile

OP posts:
ToffeeWhirl · 28/05/2014 06:14

WhoKnows - that's fantastic news! Grin Hope it's all progress from here on. And well done to your mum for getting your dad such speedy attention - crucial in a stroke.

Fell asleep with DS2 last night and then woke up at 5am. So, I have been working on my OU assignment (got an extension for the deadline, luckily) and am about to start some work checking books, which will make DH happy. He gets frustrated that I don't do more.

On second cup of tea and have eaten quite a lot of biscuits Blush.

MercuryRising · 28/05/2014 07:15

I still won't be working in the correct zone but the plan for today is to scrub the ingrained dirt out of the kitchen and conservatory floors (they have been very neglected), clean the underside of the cupboards, clear the junk off of the top of the kitchen cupboards and clean the oven and do a small pile of ironing. Im not looking forward to any of this but am trying to keep myself motivated by how much better the kitchen looks already.

Going to have breakfast and get on. I will bbl with a progress report. I hope you have more good news regarding your dad whoknows

ToffeeWhirl · 28/05/2014 07:35

Good luck, Mercury.

Have finished working my way through a boxful of books. Have a good excuse not to tackle the kitchen yet because it will wake DS2 (he sleeps above). Could do more OU work, but I think MN browsing will take precedence whilst I wait for the house to wake up.

pushmepullyou · 28/05/2014 08:18

Up since 6 here. Think this new insomnia method is basically teaching me to get up early and be happy about it Grin. I am not feeling as bad as expected though and have cleaned out the glasses cupboard.

Work today and then to Gran's for a sleepover this evening. Am going to see a film at the local film festival tonight which includes som footage shot by my Grandad in the 1930s, so looking forward to that a lot Smile

BitchyVstheUFOs · 28/05/2014 09:14

Morning. I slept all day yesterday and then struggled to sleep last night. But awake and almost functioning today. Could murder a coffee though. I think i can smell the fact that the radiators have been turned on it is that cold here again. Loads to do but not sure i can be bothered. I think the caffine demon is going to win. :( I have 5 days to achiev 7 days of stuff and I am out 2 afternoons. Not so good. Coffee is a good motivator.

First stop a proper breakfast and a shower and then I will see what happens because I need to tackle my room, the 3 boxes of stuff on the landing, my car, the paperwork in the office, the mending, laundry, ds' room, clearing the utility room so there is some space for painting, finishing various inprogress projects etc etc etc.... small picture not big

Aim for today:
Paperwork - the box from the landing which needs filing, the pile from the desk in office which needs filing, The bits floating about in my room that needs filing.

Best start with the power of 3:
breakfast
shower
get up

yep motivation is that lacking today

CarpeJugulum · 28/05/2014 10:04

Morning. Not really getting a chance to post between MIL & work but, I submitted my first job application this morning! EEEEEEEPPPPP!!!

Cross your fingers for me please as this job would be perfect for me. Probably!

Wing flaps to everyone, and I'll hopefully be back later (work permitting) to gossip post my non-existent list.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 28/05/2014 10:44

I'm getting a whole lot of nothing done here today. Waiting for the garage to ring to tell me the cost for repairing the car .

I cut up some fruit and put it in the freezer to use later. That's really the extent of it, although I'll get moving a bit later and do some general cleaning.

Need coffee first. Can't do anything without coffee. Grin

ToffeeWhirl · 28/05/2014 10:48

Good luck with that paperwork, Bitchy

pushme - how moving to see footage shot by your grandfather. Hope you enjoy it.

This getting-up-early lark does mean lots gets done.

Swanhildapirouetting · 28/05/2014 18:44

ooh SC I loooved that party episode. They have oyster soup don't they and then they hold hands and one of the boys hooks them up to the electricity from the telegraph Shock Not your typical teenage party then..Wink The best one is the party where they play in the creek and Laura lures Nellie into the deep water with the leeches Hmm

Whoknows I'm so glad your father is feeling a bit better.

toffee thanks for your comments elsewhere. I am so relieved it is half term I cannot even remember the horrors of school atm..

done
guests to lunch, cooked Indian shepherd's pie with spices and sweet potato/potato topping
dd went off to Brentford to meet her friends

lots of talk about the horrors of housemoving and buying. Estate agents are unppopular to say the least. Sagas of gazumping and guzundering. feel very relieved to be able to live in this messy house and not have to move

Shampoobaloo · 28/05/2014 18:53

Can I join please? I feel like I'm drowning. Things have been really stressful in the past few months and it has all become too much. My work and house are suffering as a result. Time to take control.

To do:
clear up dinner things/load dishwasher
take rubbish out
take up/put away bags on stairs

starting small!

MercuryRising · 28/05/2014 20:03

Decluttered on top of the cupboards, freezer and the microwave.
Cleaned the kitchen bin
Cleaned the dogs bowls, mat and bin
Hoovered cobwebs in the kitchen
Small pile of ironing
Popped to shops to buy a new mop and stock up on more cleaning products
Hoovered downstairs
Rr living room
Picked ddad up
Cooked dinner
Reloaded dw
Cleaned kitchen

Feeling tired now but need to get some coursework done this evening although I think I will need lots of Brew

BitchyVstheUFOs · 28/05/2014 20:18

ta da
up and function
Sort oull out 4 boxes of paperwork
File one box worth and cull box
have two folders of no fucking idea what to do with paperwork that can't be culled more the fucking pity
put the world to rights with a good friend
catch up with another friend
Attempt to collect together all the stuff to be sent down to dsis at the weekend
Not set fire to anything or kill anyone yeah one of those days, stupid fucking pcge

Would someone kindly reassure me that the worldis not going to end if i get rid of some info on proximately quenching and articles on the relationship of industry and science. My brain seems to be unable to let this go Blush

ToffeeWhirl · 28/05/2014 21:25

Welcome Shampoo. As Mercury says, babysteps are the answer.

Bitchy - chuck them. The world will not end.

Have managed to keep the kitchen in some sort of order and get two loads of washing done. Also cooked relatively decent meals for everyone. Off to drink wine and watch 'The Sopranos' now.
